In this scenario, let's assume all the offensive skilled players are off the board and the phone isn't ringing, which prospect will have his name on the card heading to the podium:

Parsons
Farley
Slater

All are blue chip prospects in my opinion and all fill important needs. However, they are all opt out players that are more projection on the next level. Which name is written on the card and why?

Slater.I am close to not wanting a CB high if we are playing mostly zone.get some big corners later in the draft.

If we sign Awuzie back or a free agent CB (Allen or somebody) I am ok going this route. If we sign nobody than I am going Surtain than Farley

Parsons. Most dynamic of the bunch. Position of need. Don’t care about his off the field crap, just worried about missing a year. Don’t think they will do it with Jaylon and LVE however.....

Farley

Talent and need.

Parsons. Talented kid, some character concerns. If I thought for a second they would move on from Jaylon then I'd be higher on him. But we all know Jerry isn't moving on from Smith this soon. So in reality, we'd be drafting a SAM LB at 10.

Slater is a very good player and would be an instant upgrade at LG and a long-term solution at LT. However, I do not love his length and one great game against Chase Young doesn't make me forget those concerns.

Farley (his profile is similar to CJ Henderson, all the traits, lacks experience)
Slater (many people are sleeping on him, he is a Zach Martin clone and yes he can play Tackle for a West Coast Scheme)
Parsons (kind of like Farley, lacks experience, but possesses elite traits, positional value knocks him down)

Quite honestly, I can make an argument for/against for all three and would be happy with any of them. The ranking of the three changes daily for me, which tells me they are all worthy of that 10th overall spot.

Farley and it’s not even close for me.
No way in the world I take a 4-3 LB at 10
Already invested enough in the OL. At some point they have to be able to succeed without a 1st round pick at every spot.

I think they are closely ranked and I think they would all be a good addition to the team.

I would have to find out which was the best character. Does not need to be a goody two shoes but someone that works extremely hard, someone that is smart, someone who loves the game, someone who is a gym rat of sorts.

I would also have to look at the injury histories of each one. Do they seem to be injury prone? Once injury does not make for an injury prone player but I think we have learned that some players who were injury prone in college will be the same in the pros no matter how good they might be ...Sean Lee for example. He fits the first character issues to a T but the injury issues have really hurt.

I think Farley and Parsons are so athletically gifted and still learning that they would have the high ceilings aspects.
Slater might have some size limitations but seems to be a proven player that works hard. Plus if the Cowboys feel that Collins and Smith are both going to be missing games maybe that is the factor that pushes slater to the top.

I see your point, but:

1. A skilled cornerback can play in either zone or man coverage, and is useful in either.
2. Teams don't play zone all the time, what does your "big corner" (i.e. slower) do when teams go to a 4 wide receiver set, or they have to play a Hopkins, etc? Offense will figure out a way to get their top guy one on one, and you better have a top corner in that case.

Of course other things factor in, with a very strong pass rush you somewhat counter the Hopkins-type receiver so it somewhat lessens the need for a top corner, for instance.

Really any of these guys can, if they turn out as advertised, help this team, all 3 positions need help....

Agreed, and all 3 could be gone in the first 9 picks. Maybe not likely, but certainly possible....

If the off the field is clear it's Parsons for me.

I think he could completely change the dynamic of our defense and be someone we could build around.

If anyone is curious, here is where the NFL Draft Network ranks them

5) Farley
10) Slater
20) Parsons

Then this is how CBS Sportsline ranks them
6) Parsons
11) Slater
12) Farley

I know, I know....all sorts of rating this time of year. But I found that interesting

As always, as we get closer to draft day, I usually come up with my own rankings....for better or worse.
