I was really impressed with Devin White’s play this year and thought we should compare him with another highly touted lb coming out of college in Jaylon. Keep in mind that Devin played in 15 games vs Jaylon’s 16.

Total tackles
Jaylon 154
Devin 140

Solo tackles
Jaylon 89
Devin 97

Sacks
Jaylon 1.5
Devin 9 (wow!)

Tackles for loss
Jaylon 5
Devin 15

QB hits
Jaylon 4
Devin 16

The Bucs proved that spending a top 5 pick on a lb is not a mistake.

TB also had a very healthy defense around White to ALLOW him to do his assignments. Brady had a healthy OL all year as well. So that in turn helps the defense.

Dallas had 2nd, 3rd and 4th team players at many positions except WR. And even they had some injuries here and there to hold them back some. So NO player could really do their assignments.

Nice illustration of Jaylons actual impact. Too bad it doesn't show how many of his tackles are 7 yards down the field. Notice how little actual impact plays he has. I was a big believer in 2018, and boy was I wrong.

I'm not sure what the point of this is. There are only a few players that are considered the best at their position (or worst), so with almost every player there are some better, some worse, and some about the same.

Of course, the OP indicated that Tampa proved spending a top 5 pick on a LB is not a mistake, but really what it proved was spending a top 5 pick on that particular LB was not a mistake. Besides, how often do the Cowboys even have a top 5 pick, so is this really relevant to the Cowboys?

Maybe the tackles are 7 yards downfield, because he plays 7 yards off the LOS and the DL can't do their job.
But no, fans do not think of logic. And many times he has to chase them down if they are not on his side of the ball.

Yea if we can get some able bodied DTs all of our LBs would be much better I feel. Jayl9n is a see it and go type of guy, if he has to think about it and react hes screwed because he misreads all of the time

Or maybe he makes bad reads and misses his assignments. We've all seen him guessing out there, cmon. His feel for the game often looks like trash. Sorry.

Not a huge Jaylon fan but he is pretty low on my concerns with this defense. Solidify the DT spot and I think you’ll see improvement with Jaylon, especially with getting away from Nolan’s scheme. Not sure he will live up to his draft hype, but he can be a middle of the pack guy.

He 100% makes bad reads, but a pair of DTs that don’t get blown back 5 yards every play will help minimize those errors.

I’m not expecting Jaylon to turn into a pro bowl player next year but the deck was stacked against him. Brian Urlacher in his prime couldn’t play the run with the cowboys front four.

Devin White looks great but he also had legit defenders around him in a defense he knew.
He wasn't flying blind behind a bad DT group.

Rather than try to dunk on Jaylon would be nice if the fan base would just shut up and let him play this year in the new system.
The overarching Jaylon hate has full on reached tiresome at this point.

And the rookie Devin White Bucs team won 7 games before bringing in a HOF QB, drafting a top 3 RT in R1 and adding Gronk, AB and others in free agency to title chase.

I agree brother. I cant forget 2018, he looked awesome. I dont understand the drop off. Coming into last season I said the same thing. That said our DTs were terrible so nothing changed. I still believe there has to be a way to rediscover 2018 Jaylon. I haven't given up completely, but I do wish we hadn't re-signed him.

But Jaylon did it all on one leg. That counts for a lot around here.

Where the stat column for completely blowing your assignment and allowing a 30+ yard TD rush?

I didn't get to see much of White but its worth noting that PFF ranks him with a 45.4 PFF rating...Jaylon is a 54.2.

I won't put a lot of stock into PFF Ratings but I surely would put it over using tackles to talk about how good someone is.

Drafting linebackers early is frowned upon now so I wanted to show the production you can get from him. Not sure any other MLB in the league had anything close to 9 sacks.

This is part of the problem. Jaylon sits back about 6 yds but his reads are almost always a tick slower than other LBers. His other challenge is he struggles with play actions and id’ing the ball carrier.
