ask him where he wants to go, work out a contract/trade and move on.

a $40m a year qb makes zero sense for this team.

The draft capital you would need to spend to get one of the top QB's would take away any chance as reloading defense. Money can be managed, regardless of what the "experts" on this site think.

Giving away draft picks cannot be managed.

I agree with your first sentence, but that's it. This is not to say the rest is wrong, it's just that your timing is off. Gallup needs an extension now, not next year. Zeke will be here two more years if you want cap relief, not 1 more. If Jaylon continues to bite, he can be gone after 2021. No reason to dump him right now.

The Cowboys are set at one position group, the skilled players on offense. Everywhere else either needs help or is a question mark. Dallas has several DBs that are free agents that need replacing. I think it's Woods, Chido, and Lewis. No biggy, but still need to be replaced. Dallas has 8 players right now up for extension. Most of them starters. If they sign Dak we'll be looking to replace or trade most, if not all of them over the next two drafts. We'd be looking at a minor rebuild. You want to pay a QB 40 million a year just to come for the ride over the next 3 years? The Cowboys are not a very good team right now. And if you sign Dak they're going to get a little worse before they start getting better.

I don't believe he will just come for a ride.

I agree with you but the incompetence in the FO won't get it done. They will lose Dak and have little to show for it.

It especially bums me out when you introduce logic to my rants.

Just put the non exclusive FT on Dak

This way, he can go and basically "trade" himself to whatever team signs him and we get 2 first round picks.

Then you can use the picks to draft s QB like Wilson or Fields and use the free cap space to buy the best Safety and DT on free agency.

Worst case scenario, no one signs Dak at least we will know his true worth and his price has to come significantly lower.

This is the way to go Jerry please dont screw this up.

WORST case is if we use the exclusive FT because at that point hes guaranteed to leave next year and we get a measly 3rd round pick.

Jerry, use your head not your heart its business.

I don’t think these are actual options for Dak.

They are absolute options for Dak. He isn't obligated to do anything. Trade him? Can't do it unless he plays along.

He can call Jerry's bluff and he'll have two options: become a free agent this year or play for $37 million and become a FA next year.

The Cowboys aren't in position to demand anything because they've allowed this standoff to go into year two of the tag.

It's no accident this franchise hasn't come close to winning anything for 25 years. It lacks competent leadership.

What else would he do? The Cowboys are not a good team. Dallas isn't winning anything over the next 3 years. Any quarterback would be going for a ride. No sense in paying a high priced QB for nothing.

My solution? SIGN DAK LONG TERM or tag and trade. There is no "letting him walk" option. Its one or the other. If Jerry lets this guy out of town via free agency..he should be ran out on a rail.

Dak absolutely refuses to sign long term.

I just hope they prove me wrong by actually signing Dak to a new deal. I don't mind being wrong, but I do mind my team continuing to be bad. I'm not saying Dak will fix everything but he is a good start and someone to build around.

Spell it out. Put it in one thread.

To me there is no trade available that will keep the draft picks in hand to rebuild the defense. So it is sign Dak for me. I see him as a consistent player that can get it done if you can give him protection.

All the defense needs is to keep the opponent under 23 PPG. With the TE's, WR's, and running game, Dallas should average more than that.

I say keep Dak and let go of these silly trades. Andy Dalton is not a solution, by the way. If you pay 40m, well so what. You can ditch Zeke next year. Backload the contract if you need to. Dump Jaylon and push some of that money toward Gallup. But get this done and move on.

Now what is your plan? This is not a slander Dak thread, but your idea. I see a great deal of post attacking Dak that offer zero plans for replacing him. But these people are quick to call Dak out, but little on what they would do other than play Madden with ideas that cannot work.

Here is your shot to GM this situation. Let's see what you got.
Can’t you just leave it be?

Dak doesn’t want to sign with Dallas. Tag and trade or just tag him and draft a QB at 10. He needs to be gone.

If we get two firsts for Prescott we could throw in those plus a second for 2021 and a first in 2022 (which would be closer to a second with Wilson).

Wilson behind even a semi healthy o line wins the East at a canter. The defense will be better next season in a simplified system - similar to 2016-2019. We could be a bit of a dark horse in the play offs as he is one of the few elite QB in the league even behind a bad o line.
No way am I giving up 3 firsts for RW.

Dak had leverage last week but with the Wilson trade possibilities now he once again has no leverage. Take the 38 million it is a fair deal for you. You are not 40 million dollar QB.
