I thought it would be interesting to gauge where Cowboys fans stand at the moment on Dak's contract negotiations.

So, what is the max per year average contract amount you would offer Dak?

Whatever the market allows and both Parties negotiate.

Until the league places individual Caps by position it’s going to be proportionately divided in a difficult position to build teams when one player receives such an amount.

But it’s what the owners want which tells me winning championships isn’t the ultimate goal.

I voted 35 to 39. As that is the going rate it seems, other than Mahomes. There is no way around it. The tag pays him in that range.
Even though I think that is too much for any QB. but it is the way of the NFL for now. So I am ok with that. Not my money.

However, there is a part of me that says, let him walk, get a comp pick, though a lowly 3rd. Draft a QB. But in the long run, would the team be better off. No one really knows, it is a gamble either way. But for 35 to 39 range and if a low cap hit the 1st few years. They can fix the defense, and Dak wins. So that is more known, than a rookie QB.

I am really just to the point, get it resolved one way or the other.

Not true. The % of cap that quarterbacks are getting today isn't different enough than 6-7 years ago for it to matter.

I was speaking about before the Cap was implemented.

I’m totally against the Cap. But if they’re intent then I’d assign caps by position.

What I don't get is how some people can be comfortable at, say, $36m but not, say, $41m.

What exactly do people think the team is going to do with that $5m? Are we worried about having enough money for a kicker and punter? Someone please answer this for me. Difference-making players make $10m minimum.

It is economically illogical but I have always been in favor of a tiered system, categorized by position, and adjusted by depth chart status. I would choose the $25-$29 million poll option for all starting quarterbacks with zero exceptions.

Wonder which option Jerry Jones would pick? Then again, I wish he and Dak Prescott would come to a final mutual agreement and move on from there.

I'd say 35 based on coming off that gruesome leg injury. No way of knowing what level he will return to after that.

$36.4M and not a penny more. Maybe add some incentive based on play. Let's see that ankle in action.

The guy is gonna bank on endorsements as the Cowboys QB anyway.

I lean this way as well and would add to the formula time in the league. They already cap the rookies based on draft position. That being said, with the current situation, Dak should get $40 plus based on the fact that he is already set to earn $37 this year then walk. Despite what his plays/skills/playoff record/record against good teams/etc. may or may not show, he is holding $37 million right now and should not give that up to make less.
