If you're worried about him being damaged goods what's the difference if you give him 35 or 40 in a long term extension? You're screwed either way.
It's definitely a gamble. Guess I was looking at this poll as "if I want to keep him, what is the most you would offer." Considering that he will likely get more, even with the possibility that he's damaged, I would think my offer is more of a lowball offer than anything.

I am actually surprised about the results ...... I guess the anti Dak faction are still in the minority.

The only choice acceptable on the list was ‘let him leave’ for me.

Agreed,
Dak is / was an average QB.
When these neg. started, the going rate was 30ish.
Now add the injury.
Then the reports of "I need my respect?" or whatever the exact quote was.
example:
"Show me the Quan" - Jerry Maguire
Factor in the hardball agent he has chosen to stay in bed with.
Time to let him ride off into his sunset.

Get what you can for him and move on.

The vibe I'm getting from you is you've had enough and you want a new QB. I'll see if I can get your vote changed.

Honestly, I think Dak is a very good, not great, QB that is going to be paid like a great QB because the market is insanely inflated. These QB deals are team killers. I don't even think Mahomes is worth "Mahome's Money" because signing him to that big of a deal has effectively given that team about a 2-3 year window to win before the wheels come flying off in free agency departures and they need to rebuild unless they hit on a bunch of cheap replacement players in the draft.

You are being generous on the $35M ceiling but $30M is about right.
I mean, you have to give a little in negotiations right? People misconstrue me saying that he's "average", that's not a bad thing and you can win a title with an average guy. You just can't afford to make him the highest paid guy in the league being average.

I voted up to 29 mil, but I could take 30. I like his leadership and I do think he has tremendous heart, but, and there is a HUGE but, his arm talent is extremely limited, always has been and I haven't seen much if any improvement in that regard. I do think with a top tier defense, a good running game that makes teams have to respect that possibility this team to do damage in the league with Dak under center.
Having said that, giving him Mahomes type $$ makes that hard to do.

it always was; just like those who slobber all over him are also a minority. Probably pretty much equal out.

What most are saying is that he is NOT worth $40 million a year and I agree.

Everything is contingent on what happens, and when, with new tv contracts.

The 30% increase reported on the Disney/ABC contract would totally flip the board on all the talk about Dak's contract. 40mil would instantly be cheap for Dak.

So I could choose $39 mil and it's okay, but choose $40 mil and it's not?

Gee, $1 million goes a long way these days still!
so then you are ok with 41
then you should be OK with 42 right?

So are you saying there is no limit?

No player deserves 40 million a year to play a game ...... Of course the owners do not deserve all the money they leech out of fans either.

He should be paid like qbs who are in the 12 to 6 range of top qbs ...... But in 3 years those guys will be making 40 million a year also.

or it could be in contract as a bonus.
But evidently qb's dont want to be paid on playoff wins lol.

Why would I want my bonus contingent on dragging a garbage defense along for the ride?

Both of Dak's playoff losses came when the opponent scored 30+. The Cowboys have never won a playoff game when the opponent scored 30+.

35, only because it was already put on the table by Jerry and I don't think he takes it off the table.

So, not 39, not 38, not 37, not 36. I would offer 35 over 5 years and that's it. The way this poll represents this, it's between 35 and 39 so if your number falls somewhere in between there, you vote approval but it's not entirely accurate. I, for example do not support anything other then 35, obviously.

I'm surprised the majority would pay him more than Russell Wilson

That's more about the insane QB market where each contract is higher than the previous one. Doesn't make sense to me because not all starting QBs are created equal, but that's how it has been going for years now. Whoever is next line to get paid will get even more because teams are paying the best guy they have like he's the best guy in the league.

The only outlier has been Mahomes, but a few contracts from now the next guy will be approaching his numbers. Something has to give at some point. These contracts are team killers and few, if any, QBs can overcome the deficiencies around them (created by their own contract).

What I don't get is how some people can be comfortable at, say, $36m but not, say, $41m.

What exactly do people think the team is going to do with that $5m? Are we worried about having enough money for a kicker and punter? Someone please answer this for me. Difference-making players make $10m minimum.

Lol I been thinking the same thing. What does an extra $3mil or $5mil get you that makes that line uncrossable? Answer is not much and certainly not enough to have any major impact on our defense. If the qb market says he should be paid $40 mil so be it. No different than buying stocks or cars or whatever it is. The market is what the market is.

For any non elite QB, 30. If Dalton didn't miss 2 games we make the playoffs very similar to the better years with Dak and Romo, would probably go 1 and done maybe 2 if we got lucky.
