because Mahomes was lucky pick that why he went what 10-11 , they did NOT 100% know he could replace smith and be this goods this fast..
so how long would it take to actually hit on a QB and get the next Mahomes in the draft?
easy answer wasn't it..no way you can just say ok ill draft "x" guy and he will take us to a CG first year and win sb second year..lots of luck goes into that..
luck like hitting on UDFA Romo UDFA and Dak as 4th rounder , sure they didnt take us to the promise land but they also are hard to find/
I'ts tough for me to fully defend Dak because his play is at times frustrating....but...
He is by FAR our best option over the next few years, even at 40m per.
I dont at all see how a Bridgewater or Darnold type at 25m is a tremendous savings.
You can sign a decent linebacker w the savings. Thats all.
Back to point....trying to find a capable rookie who can play at a high level immediately is not easy at all...and once he does, you'll hear the agent moaning about wanting to get paid.
So even if you DO get lucky and nail the QB in the draft, how long does the team truly reap the benefits of the cheap QB contract? Two, maybe three years....and the rest of your team had better be built also at the time or its blown anyway.
The most frustrating part is when I hear people say that since Dak hasn't won YET, that means he can't win in the future.
He may very well not, but I agree, replacing him is WAY more of a needle in a haystack thing than some think.
