For the people who think the Cowboys should tag Dak with a goal of re-signing him next offseason, why do you think the team/Dak would finally capitulate and come to an agreement at that point? They will have been at an impasse for four years at that point. Absolutely nothing is going to happen next season that suddenly bridges that gap. If he plays lights out he's going to want even more money on his terms. If he gets hurt or has a down year, he's going to be even more eager to get back to FA as soon as possible to try and maximize his earnings betting on himself.
For anyone suggesting they would tag him a third time, you realize what the cost of that tag would be, right? There is absolutely no chance they're paying Dak that astronomical sum.
It's not a guarantee by any means, but if this doesn't get worked out this season, it's far far more likely he's gone next year than it is that he stays. Meanwhile, the Cowboys miss out on one of the most QB rich drafts in a while, the team gets a year older, and everyone else gets closer to the end of their contracts.
I can't place blame for this fiasco 100% on either party, but if they're still at an impasse after three years of trying to negotiate a new deal, it's likely time to just agree to part ways amicably.
