If we are keeping our top 3 wr this year I'd let Wilson walk and get someone cheaper who is a better returner.

If you can sign him low...do so.
There are some good WRs to be had in this years draft.
Draft one.
With the possibility of trading Gallup you can have draft the WR, have Cedric to play while the Rook is learning the ropes.

Or heck..let him go.

I know we need defense this year but there will probably be a time when our pick is up that a good WR is the BPA.

Let us try something different.

With the cap being an issue, at least until a certain players' status is known.
What is everyones take on bringing back Cedric Wilson. As a RFA, per this article, he may cost too much to offer a tender.

And what tender should be given, if any?
They can go 3 different ones.
1st round at $4.7 million, 2nd round at $3.3 million, or right of 1st refusal at $2.1 million.

Could they let him go to FA, maybe get a comp pick, 5th to 7th round. And then look to bring Noah Brown back, for less, since he is a URFA, unless he too gets a better offer.
Depends on whether they tag Prescott - would the front office be to afford him? Shame as he looked useful

I'm with you. Fans go nuts hyping these diamond-in-the-rough finds that they think will turn into another Romo story. Wasn't that long ago that Ryan Switzer was going to make us forget all about one trick pony Cole Beasley. Beasley is now a 2nd Team All-Pro ... for another team. Switzer? Yeah, okay.

honesty haven't missed Cole, though.

Sign him, he's WR3. Trade Gallup. Profit.
Mmk, and when one guy gets hurt, you're screwed.

I have no idea why people want to get rid of WRs when the passing game is A) what this team is built around and B) the most important facet of a competitive team.

we should tender him at 2.1 mil. He is too good top lose.
I love Cedric Wilson. And your idea under normal years would probably work if we trade Gallup. And maybe they do that. But this team is going to be squeezing every penny of cap space and we are so stocked at WR, I can’t see spending even that much on a position that is our lowest need. Finding a good 4th receiver is not nearly as hard as finding a good swing T or a reasonably priced DB or LB.

2.1 could be used towards a quality linebacker in F.A.

For the production Wilson has given this organization thus far could be replace in the draft.
What quality LB are you getting for $2.1? Just looking at overthecap and guys like that are similar young guys on tenders who have done little in the league. Joe Thomas made $1.25, but he's probably the kind of talent you would be getting even bumping up to 2.1.

I just don't know what the market is for a guy like Cedric Wilson. He's done nothing in this league. Tyrell Williams was just done for a 1 year 6 million dollar deal. Hopefully he can be brought back at a bargain. Kellen seemed to like to use him as a weapon.

I would expect him to receive an offer from Cowboys. Not only a WR but a good special teams player as well. Cost will be minimal

I like the experience on a cheap deal. Better than a rook and i Like him. His gate is so different you could put him and any number and i could tell you who just caught the ball. Tony Dorsett had it and so did Deion.

He's been in the league for 2 years and has 22 catches. That is the very definition of marginal.
not when he has had an opportunity. Given an opportunity he is just as good or better than Gallup. Not his fault he had to rely on Dalton and not Dak.

It's called team building. The likelihood of you signing Gallup to after this year is minimal, so you get value for him now (would not take less than a 2) & spend resource on other areas of need.

option 3. 2.1 and if he gets more somewhere else more power to him we'll take the comp pick. But it may be a really down year for free agents too so there is the potential of some talented free agents available cheap.

Since the season ended, there has been a growing preference among Cowboys fans (and media covering the team) to trade Micheal Gallup while there is one year left on his contract before letting him walk away in 2022 to an FA offer that Dallas cannot afford. So - 2021 could see WR3 and WR4 positions being manned by younger members of the group - Malik Turner (another RFA) - or one of the following:
Ventell Bryant
Jon 'Vea Johnson
Chris Lacy
Stephen Guidry
Aaron Parker

He is valuable to this franchise. I would tender the 2.1 or even see if he would take a multi-year deal, that would count less against the cap this year.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

He is on the same page with Dak. Before Dak went down, he was on pace for a 800 yard year.

He is a core special-teamer, he is not just a return guy. You don't find that very often out of a WR.

He backs up all three WR spots. If any of the big three go down, you still have a decent to good receiver to put in. That's very valuable for a team whose best chance for a playoff birth is to outscore their opponents.
