If Dak hits open market this year, does anyone think he would get 40m+ per year?

lol. Dak HAS to play OL, WR TE, RB, DL, LB, CB, S, special teams for wins against good teams. Just as Aikman did during his SB run. Like that excuse?

Wouldn't matter if the league didn't have a cap. Whole different ball game since tgen

I don't care what other teams do. This whole in 2-3 years thing is stupid. In 3 years you gotta extend him or he walks with very little compensation after 4 years. What a waste. If they don't win, and I doubt they will it will be seen as a flop even by those who want this deal now. Stupid deal that didn't have to be done.
well, here are the QBs in the next 2-3 years getting new contracts most probably
Mayfield
Jackson
Allen
Burrow
Herbert
Murray

and then you have Rodgers, Brady, Wilson, Mahomes, Watson, Dak who got big contracts already.

in the next 2,3 years there is 2,3 superbowl winners....I guess a whole lot of teams will be flops and stupid because most of those teams will not win it obviously. stupid deals that didn't have to be done. none of them deserve a new contract.

in essence, what you are arguing, you either win the superbowl in your first 4 years, else you don't deserve a second contract...

and tell me if this rule applied to Peyton Manning who went 0-4 in the playoffs to start......did he not deserve a second contract?

Very few QB's deserve market setting deals. Mahomes does and that's about it. I wouldn't give any of the guys you mention the deal they gave Dak in todays market. Brady signed a non market setting deal, yes i'd look into him and i'd have offered Dalton 3 years 45 million fully guaranteed while trying to draft a guy at the #10 spot after trading Dak. Use that extra cap money to shore up the defense with a safety, a CB, and see who else could come in to make an impact while drafting the best players available with the 2 1st i recieved from trading Dak. Could have been enough for some OL help, maybe pitts, or further down in the 1st maybe a couple defensive players to push our newly acuired vets and give us depth. That's just me trying to add more overall talent instead we got the same guy who has struggled vs good defenses. Wonder why we can't put a good team together just look at the over paid RB. LB, QB, DE that we've known are not enough to be more than average.

but the facts are that these QBs will get new contracts at very high prices and many will be given more than Dak....but we know according to your standards, most won't deserve them and their teams should just wait until the end of the contract and if they don't win a superbowl, just walk away...

as I said, you stance is if you don't win the superbowl on your rookie contract, you don't deserve a second contract...

and everyone keeps pointing to Brady whose situation is quite different. His wife makes about $40M per year and is worth more than Brady.....Brady can take less and still be elitely rich.

and Offering Dalton 15M per year would be the absolute most idiotic deal ever. he has been around 10+ years and has ZERO playoff win. you say QBs don't deserve new deals if they haven't done it. Dalton hasn't done it in 10 years and his second contract....why does he deserve 15M....and we saw first hand how badly he sucked....he will not get anything close to that number from any team in the league...and that would be over paying him by 12,13M a year....why are you ok with that?

and 4 out of 5 first round QBs fail.....you rather just go into a develop them, not win a superbowl and lets draft and rebuild mode, every 4 years!!! has that every worked for any team. ever.

and which safties are available? how much do they cost? is a saftey going to lift this defense to elite level? the two good safties that were UFA, just got tagged. we know FA is over paying, and we would need to over pay for 3,4 players just to have a respectable defense.....and yet have all the tools on offense and put a dud at QB!!! how is that expected to pay off. we would then have below average offense. and an average defense. is that a winning formula you recommend?

we have plenty of talent on offense. you can not build a defense through FA, specially not in 2021....we need to draft better defensively and if we don't then even Mahomes couldnt' lead this team to anything significant. I rather not sign any, even if we had 40M in cap, I wouldn't want any high priced FA this year. we need to allow Quinn to implement his system. draft defense defense defense, and see if we hit on any of them and then we see where this defense stands next year and we can fill in the gaps with couple of FAs...there will be plenty of cap room over the next few years...

1st I never said that QB's don't deserve it till they win anything. There are plenty of QB's I wouldn't pay that have. The whole thinking that you have to pay decent players max money is too archaic. It doesnt end well. the only reason that had early success was because Zeke was running the ball so damn well the first 3 years should have won the Russian title 3 years in a row if he hadn't gotten suspended. I think Dalton did a pretty good job considering how bad our offensive line was reshuffling players lots of injuries guys who hadn't really played much in the league getting a start both tackles going down in the same game. how good do you think that would have done in those same situations he wouldn't have done much better is Dalton the same no but for a much a fraction of the price you can get almost the same quarterback and then go spend that money on better players. They've shown for the last several years that they suck at drafting defense so paying a few guys is about the only way that they can kind of shore it up until they fix their draft problems. For me it's about team building and I can build a better team with resources spent elsewhere than wasting money on a guy who struggles to move the needle anyway. because now we still need to address all of the same issues that we've needed to address before and we have less ability to do it and no they're not going to mortgage the future and move a lot of money around to be able to address and add some talent that can help us.
