March 31st: On this day in 1980, after 11 seasons with the Cowboys, Roger Staubach announced his retirement at a Texas Stadium press conference. Roger Staubach, with his wife Marianne at his side, choked up when speaking of Coach Landry.

Ah, yes, I remember it well -- it was a tearful goodbye for Roger but perhaps, a needed one, at that. The concussions were mounting.

To say the least, his career was a magnificent one, all things considered. He attained a degree of respect that only a champion could.

But it did faze you, even at 6 weeks old you sensed the importance of the Dallas Cowboys in your life.
