Well it is now a family tradition that my wife and 2 oldest daughters and I go to every Cowboys home opener. Ill have to look back and see for sure, but this is about 7 or 8 in a row now.... although we did miss last years due to corona.

We use Southwest points and book week 1 and week 2. When the schedule comes out, we cancel the week we do not need. Im guessing we open at home on week 1 this year.

We do the same for our hotel, a Marriott right across from the stadium. We booked that months ago for same weekends since they jack up the prices once the schedule comes out.

We normally do a couple road games as well, and New Orleans is always priority number 1. ONly the Chiefs game looks really interesting this year, but my guess is nosebleeds for that game will cost us 400 a pop, and they may turn me away.

Not sure if it will be open this year, but we normally do 2 days of Oxnard with golf in July as well, Holding out for that.

Love this time of year...... football is around the corner. Anyone else do the opener every year?

Oxnard sounds great. Enjoy.

The notion of shelling out hundreds to attend a Cowboys game no longer appeals to me. I did that for about 20 years, including flights and hotels. Went into the thousands once they moved to Jerryworld. Meanwhile, the football got worse.

Sounds awesome. Love Southwest points and churning their credit cards every two years for reward signups. I've learned to check their site often after booking as flights go up and down in points and just changing routing slightly can credit a bunch back.

I haven't been to a Cowboys game in a while. The last game I attended was back in January 2016 with my kids at Cowboys stadium....it was the last game of the season against Washington. Kirk Cousins started the game, but then Colt McCoy came in and finished it. Romo was on the sideline on IR, however we saw him passing the ball around in pre-game warmups. We had Kellen Moore as our QB. Sadly, we lost. Oh well. o_O

I do the same. I book, then constantly check to see if they have dropped. I have gotten pretty good for doing things in the very most economical way possible after years of doing this.
Southwest is the best!

A car for the weekend is about 100 bucks. Our hotel is free on points due to my wife's job. Flights are free due to points. That leaves us paying anywhere from 150-250 per game ticket depending on where we sit.

IM 50 years old, wife and I do pretty well. What is tolerable, finance wise, is all relative to what you make. 400k for a new boat is out of the question for me, yet is chump change for others.

I much prefer to spend our money on travel and memories at this point in my life, and there is little we enjoy more than our trips to Cowboy games. We lost that game in the playoffs to GB (when Dez caught it) yet the memories we made from that weekend..... how much is that worth? More than a few hundred bucks.

I did when I had my season tickets, except 1 year I was out of town and could not make it back for it. From 2007 to 2015 I went. Missed the 2011 opener. Sold them before the 2016 season.
Jerry said Oxnard is a go.

Haven't been to a game in a few years, but I found it cheaper to travel to the road games. Had good experiences in Denver, Tampa, Kansas City, and St Louis. Even then, the home team and the scalpers charged a premium because the Cowboys were coming to town.

Well California is rapidly opening back up (coincidence to the recall on our governor) so I would suspect unless we have some huge corona outbreak, business as we used to know will be back soon. If thats the case, we will do the Oxnard trip again. By the way, Oxnard gets worse every year. When we first started going, the site was really roomy. They have now built houses and townhouses up around the site and we have lost parking, as well as access to the south side of the fields. We are mostly limited to the huge bleacher seating and that kind of sucks.

Ill do it one more time and then see how it is this year. There were a lot of things I didnt like about the last time we were there.

Away game prices are dictated by how good the home team is. We went to Cleveland , I think 4 years ago, and got 50 yard line seats mid level for a great price. Did Tamp Bay, and same thing. Tickets to the Broncos game.. what was it, 2 or 3 years ago were RIDICULOUS for nose bleeds... im talking 400 plus per ticket. Heinze field tickets were 500 per ticket for nose bleeds. We skip those games, even though Denver is an amazing city that Id love to do a game at. Was a little pissed we skipped Steelers game, that was the game we went back and forth and Zeke had the 90 yard screen pass TD. That would have been one awesome game to be at.

It's cool that you guys are able to do that.

I used to travel a bunch back when. I've seen Dallas play everywhere except Oakland and St Louis (although I saw them play the Raiders in LA, where the St Louis Rams moved back to. Go figure)

Wouldn't it be best to just wait until the schedule comes out to book flights? What if the game is Monday?

If you like to book in advance, you'll always a through the nose for seats.

The longer you can stomach waiting it out, the less you will pay. Always. And there has NEVER been a case where there are zero tickets on the secondary market and you can't get in the building.

Anyway good luck with your travels. Wish I could do it as much as I used to.

IM assuming you were talking about the game at the LA Coliseum in 1991? 90 plus thousand people.... I was at that game also.

If you notice, I said I booked my "Flights." I did not purchase tickets. You are right, if you book now, yu are nuts. I know what good prices are and what inflated prices are. I wait till I get that sweet spot. Every now and then, we even wait till game day and we buy tickets on our phone while we are tailgating.

Game could be on a Moday, though it never has been. It seems like Sunday night game is a yearly ritual. I think the league likes to keep us out of Monday night as t not waste a highly rated opening weekend MNF on the Cowboys, who they can use for ratings in week 12 or so. I can always rebook air if need be with minimal disadvantage to us due to Southwest being so awesome, especially using points.

I agree with you on New Orleans being the top trip.

My other favorites were Seattle, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The worst that come to mind: Jacksonville, Carolina, Detroit (although we are talking Pontiac twice, not Ford)

The only stayjum I've seen that I liked better than JWorld was Indys new one.

That Raider game was 92. Close enough. Oddly enough, speaking of secondary market seats....that was a VERY tough ticket. That day and a weird Saturday home game vs Cleveland in 94 were the only two times I was worried about getting into the game.

Don't look for any logic there lol.

Been to Seattle 3times, was supposed to go last year. We were going to LA, Dallas and Seattle last year in the first 3 weeks. We are form Ca, so any west coast tris are easy.

Agree with you about favorites. Away from Arlington, best we've been to is easily Seattle and New Orleans. Seattle and NO is great because you can get a hotel so close to stadium, wake up get brunch, watch early games for Fantasy, and walk on over to the stadium. We dont even rent a car in New Orleans or Seattle anymore. I have relatives in NJ that we stay with, so Giants and Eagles games are within 1 hour of where they live..... but the east coast games are brutal on my body as far as schedule.

We will be doing the Charger game this year since it is a drive for us. Cant wait to see that new stadium.

I'm in central NJ, and often attend the NFCE road stuff....although it's a bit less than thrilling anymore.

I'll make another couple NO/Sea trips also so maybe we meet up at a game at some point.

I forgot to include Nashville as a good time as well.

Arizona when they played in Tempe was good too.

One thing to maybe look into for home games....

Not sure if it's still the team hotel, but the Gaylord Texan was an experience in itself. They provide transportation on GameDay. Its about 30 minutes North of the stayjum, but the team used to stay there the night before home games. Forget that part though....the place itself is tremendous.

me and my wife are flying in from ct for a game this year. Not sure when- but we will be going. It is her 1st time but I’ve been a few times.

The extra game in NE is a bonus for you then, yes?

I assume you'll attend. Not the greatest game experience in Foxboro lol.

I was at Sullivan in 99. It was cool to see an NFL game in a high school stadium and I'm not trying to be funny.

Wasn't impressed with Gillette overall.

Yea Gillette can be brutal the fans included which is ironic because I’m also a Celtics fan but the pats fans are a different story.- little different now post Brady. I usually go to see them against the giants which actually is more bearable than Gillette imo.

Gillette is nothing special.

its a shame i have lived about 45 mimutes from the stadium for about 3 years now and i attended more games when i was in Illinois. seen them in Indy a few times I seen them in St. Louis against the rams. Drove down here to Dallas a few times and saw them. Ive only seen them win once most times i saw them they got their *** kicked. I saw them win in KC i think that was the miles austin game. talk about a cold day

I remember being at the game in Indy where Deion Sanders returned opening kick to the 2 yard line. (he got caught from behind). I was talking some crap in the first quarter or so but I had it handed to me after Payton manning and edgerin james put an *** whipping on the boys the rest of the game.
