We have the chance to pick the best defensive player in the draft

Who would have thought at #10 we have the possibility to pick the best defensive player in the draft? While it appears to be a down year for defense, we still could have the pick of the litter with it looking like offense will go with the first 9 picks. Pretty amazing.

Who’s your selection? Both tackles and Pitts are gone.
Its possible.

Then there are two questions
  1. Who is that player? Could be any of 6-7 different players all in same tier
  2. Is that player worth the 10th overall pick or would we be better served to get one of those few (all in the same tier) plus an extra 2nd or 3rd rounder?

I’m all about that trade back and gaining a 2nd. We could have 7 picks in the first four rounds.

Sewell would be the homerun slide at the plate.
Slater/Surtain would be fine, but if some how Chase where to somehow slip and enters the fold than it really gets interesting in that scenario.

The only thing I can think of that would make a Chase pick at 10 even more exciting is if the Eagles had traded into that slot knowing he would get by Dallas. The YouTube reaction videos alone would make that worth while.

Its an AMAZING gift that lots of fans are overlooking. I would never take Pitts FYI unless no one was left and we coudlnt trade down.

For me its easy............Surtain or Parsons.

I’m with you. Surtain is so polished and started 38 straight games with big time competition, and Parsons is a game wrecker. Only worry I have with Parsons is sitting out last year.

Agreed. Only thing on Parsons is one year. But the one year may be working for us. If he played this year and destroyed it, he would probably be a top 5 pick.

So Surtain is the safe pick, Parsons could be that EXACT monster we need with more uncertainty. I have no doubt, however, that with proper research and scouting that those questions should be answered by now.

I just think that with Jerry laying out hope for Jaylon and LVE, that he may not take Parsons. But the Cowboys havent said one peep about Parsons. Not a word about linebacker or anything. They did the same things with Zeke.

I think you nailed it with Jerry loving LVE and Jaylon. If they draft a LB early that tells us a lot. LB is one of our biggest needs IMO.

This should be moved to draft zone

The draft is upon us. This is pertinent team news and gets much more viewing here. Mods are good at their jobs here.

I'm certain I'll take Surtain or Horn. I wouldn't stop there but probably take a DB in rd. 2 or at least 3.

What does Rowdy say we should do. I mean he showed up in 1996. And we been jinxed ever since. And will be until he is gone.
So at this point just let him run the draft.

more than likely the pick, and its a solid pick, just more conservative than most want, the 10 overall is supposed to generate a massive fireworks display, so some will be satisfied and some will still be hungry
after we pick or move at 10.
Conservative approach is we stay at 10 and take the BPA or move down.
Progressive approach is Jerry seeks his new shiny toy and moves up for Pitts.

Without an impact defensive player, I think we go conservative. Parson could turn out to be a dominant linebacker. But I just don't trust him on the Cowboys. I'm not convinced even if we change coaches our culture and climate is going to change. For a player like Surtain, who has been, essentially, been training to become a football player, his background may be enough to keep him on the straight and narrow and not have him succumb to the Cowboy culture.

But for a player like Parson. I just fear he's going to be another Jaylon Smith if he comes here. If he goes to a team like the Ravens, he'll be an all-pro by his second or third year.

Where a player lands makes a huge difference, and, unfortunately, I don't think the Cowboys culture is suitable to make raw players great - not unless they bring that with them.

As much as I knock Dak, he has an "IT" factor that allows him to transcend the Cowboys culture. He's a hard worker and will succeed as far as his talent will take him.
I don't have the same opinion of Zeke or anyone on the defense, except for LVE, and he's oft injured.

Sorry, but 25 years of futility has altered my perceptions of this team and its sustainability as a contender over the long haul.

I’m not sure the chatter but I’m seeing more and more mocks with Surtain gone and us having choice of Horn or one of WRs with WR going right after us. A lot of both lineman, QBs, one WR, TE and Surtain and then us. So that’s interesting and when I think phones ring. But I think those 5-10 picks are fluid

No CB is going to make that much difference and take us deep into the playoffs. Think Mo Claiborne or Patrick Peterson or any other CB playing the game today. We need lots of scoring and Pitts is that guy.

If both tackles are gone then the Cowboys have already failed. The Cowboys need to do whatever it takes to draft Sewell, even if they have to reach for him.
I'm a little surprised to hear you say that.

I agree that if he slides to 10, and I do think that's possible...they have to take him and not look back, but seems like you're willing to move up for him and sacrifice improving in other spots.

Is it about not thinking Tyron can return to form, or about Sewell himself?

The way to score often is maximize possessions, which is done by your defense getting off the field.

All those shiny weapons won't look so great on the sidelines when the other team controls the LOS and the clock.

Parsons, by a landslide. Generational talent.
Am overused term

parsons is certainly not a generational talent. He has areas of his game they are still unproven and unknown

hea a fine player but hardly tthe second coming of Lawrence Taylor
