I didnt like the pick actually and thought he never came close to living up to expectations.

I don’t know. I can see this point but he was only here through 95, made 1 Pro Bowl, was a great run stopper and was productive. He wasn’t flashy but he had a nice career here and in the NFL. He was a stud out of college so I don’t begrudge us taking him. He was just not what people think of disruptive DTs now but he was good. Not a bust by any means.

Excellent draft -- 1991.
Alvin Harper.
Dixon Edwards.
Godfrey Myles.
Erik Williams.
Leon Lett.
Larry Brown.

Jimmy as the GM
knew how to build a championship team in four drafts (89-92).

Meanwhile for the last 27 years, Jerry still has no idea how to build a team.

Do not judge him as a stand alone player but as Johnson judged him, part of his team defense. In that regard, he was very much like Landry, Grant and Noll, they saw how certain players could fit into their defense because they were all about the team defense.

Good team builders aren't necessarily looking for what that specific player can bring but what he can mean to the other players on the defense.

Maryland made the DE's more effective and freed up the MLB to make tackles. He was a run stopping DT, the last one the Cowboys had.

He had a nice career but he wasnt the force he was supposed to be. He was the #1 pick in the draft. He looked a lot better because he was on a great team. He was surrounded by greatness so not living up to expectations got washed out.

maryland was a helluva player,in my opinion.
quick off the snap.
strong pass rush and a helluva run defender.
very agile for a big man.
we could use another one like that right about now.

Jimmy was great when there was no salary cap and he was on the winning side of one of the worst trades in NFL history. Didn't work out so well with the Dolphins....

He did make them a better team but he underestimated who's team it was. In Dallas, it was his team, not Booger's and not Aikman's. It was the Marino Dolphins and even Shula struggled a but with that.

Not the first time we've seen the strongest relationship on the club between the owner and QB, saw the same in NE.

Yes there was no salary cap back then but there was also no real free agency either...so what's your point.
