With the claim that LB's cannot effect the short passing game given that the QB releases the ball so quickly (3 seconds), WR's have to run short-routes over the middle, or the RB will have to slide out the backfield for a quick pass.
You need speed/versatile LB's that can recognize, and attack the short passing game -- Parsons has the speed/quickness to perform such a task.
He ain't a slow and lackadaisical LB.
Not only does he possess the speed, but he has the punishing impact at tackling that can either dislodge the ball, or intimidate the receiver.

Parsons ran a 4.39, that is crazy fast for a 240lb guy. Most WR & RBs can't run 4.39, so Parsons should have no problem staying with some of these guys out of the backfield or for short drop passes.

Again, there are legitimate critiques for Parsons, I think his off field issues is legitimate, but saying the guy can't cover or improve the running defense is just stupid.

If parsons was the best defensive player left on the board then it is the right move. Some boards had him as the best defensive player period, and we were able to not only get him but an additional 3rd round pick.

Slater is a drop in starting player that's considered Zach Martin ALL PRO material at guard or tackle....And don't buy into Jerry's Best player on their board comment, he was maybe the best defensive player LEFT on their board
Reports out of Dallas were they viewed Slater as a guard only.

They drafted McGovern high and could possibly just be content at guard.

It's a matter of value, what if there's a heavy run on defensive players and your best remaining defender is one of several that are projected to be available in the 3rd round? Then you're reaching. I agree, don't reach for o-line either, but the draft is always fluid, let's see how it plays out before we say taking an offensive lineman is laughable...

According to some there's no value at defense in the first. They probably got the best defender in the draft and still some are crying about Oline. The D is in a dire situation and some are still going offense. It's actually mindblowing. I'm all for Oline and building a well rounded and balanced roster, this is not that roster. Cowboys have done a terrible job over the years on that side of the ball and it forced their hand.

When you say "haters" what exactly do you mean?
Are you suggesting that people who say something negative about Parsons have some hidden reason for actually hating him which makes them lose their objectivity? What is a hater?

People are obsessed with labels. I thinks it’s just frustration from fans who are SO TIRED of the nonstop doom and gloom. ANY move Dallas makes is “bad”.

I guarantee if you told Jerry and Co that you'd have your pick of Fields or Jones at 10 he wouldn't have jumped the gun and gave Dak a contract he did not deserve.
Taking the possibility of taking a QB off the board was a huge mistake. We could have reaped a nice trade back package if teams had thought there was any chance we would take one of the QB's.

this is just pure click bait on cowboys hate...thats all it is. Anyone with half a brain understands that

1) we got the best LB in the draft
2) we got an extra 3rd round pick for moving just 2 spots back
3) the defense just got a lot better on the second level

check, check, check. There is nothing not to like about this pick (at this moment)....

if they take the 2nd and 3 3rds they have and turn them into a grand total of 5 top 100 picks, this team is going to be substanitally better over night.....with what we have left in terms of draft capital, it is totally possible.

Best player on our board.

Both corners gone. Slater viewed as a LG only.

Easy decisions.
After the 2 CBS got poached in front of us....there had to be some panic....situation could have turned out way worse. As long as he doesn't get suspended...I Think we got a player. Question now is.....what about corner?

I believe it will be Ifeatu Melifonwu in round 3. Jevon Holland in round 2

Prisco had Parsons going to the Broncos at #9 nine days before the draft.

LOL.

But if you read Prisco and his takes on the Cowboys while he does his power rankings and pick games, you can tell he's got a little anti-Cowboys thing going. So to pan the pick and not understand that Dallas was going to have to revamp their LB crew at some point is pretty typical Pete Prisco.

Where's Marinelli?? If he don't like the pick you know it's good.

aria is by far the best example of a hater
Dacattack09 is the best example of a blind homer (about Dak anyway)

He needs to be great going backwards to validate the pick.

His strengths are the same as Jaylon Smiths. We didn’t need to use a 1st round pick to get a guy who is good sideline to sideline and coming down hill.

His coverage is a projection and just because he’s a freak athlete doesn’t mean he’ll be able to do it.. A lot of quick fast corners can’t cover.

So if he shows he can’t play like a modern day linebacker is supposed to play than it’s a wasted pick.
Just because he's quick doesn't mean he CAN'T do it either. This criticism of Parsons is insane. As if he can't develop or get better in coverage. There's bad linebacker play all over the league. With guys who can cover. At the end of the day our team last year got drilled on the run game. Guys averaged 3.5 yards per carry before even getting even getting touched by our defense. You can go get a Baramore and pare him with Parsons and the defense is already better.

Could have picked him at later in the round, so we didn't get much value for the pick, sadly the bears didn't trade with us, we could have still had our LB + 1st next year.

He may very develop those things.

It’s just moronic to draft a linebacker in this era who doesn’t come into the league with that as a strength.

If he ends up being terrible in space when in coverage then it’s a wasted pick.

If we had the Bears offer on the table we screwed up there.

We could’ve got Jaelen Phillips or the Davis guy (who can cover) if we needed a linebacker that bad.
