For all of you who constantly whine about Jerry always getting fleeced—the trade value chart indicates that we got very good trade value in the trade down and “won the trade”. That is all. Thank you. Take care.
And we weren't going to take the WR anyways so it was a big win for Dallas. 3rd round pick for moving down just 2 spots and still getting their guy? Slam dunk.

Trade was a large win in trade value on the Jimmy chart and still a win on the more conservative ones.

Eagles clearly wanted Smith bad.
Thankfully, Dallas has a guy who covered him every day in practice for 2 years so knows his moves.

The trade itself might have been fine.

The trade the Giants got was better.

Why didn't they make the deal with the Bears?

Why didn't we draft Fields and entertain offers?

Those were better options, IMO.

Obviously they didn't think that offer was better. They wanted parsons instead of a first round pick next year. What's so hard to understand?

First how do you know the Bears offered the Cowboys the same deal? You don't. Second, IF they would have made the trade they would have missed out on the best defensive impact player in the draft. Last year the Cowboys defense was a laughing stock in case you forgot.

Drafting Fields would have been dumb. Why? Because every team in the NFL knows there is ZERO chance we'd want to keep Fields on the roster given we just gave Dak a massive deal. So the offers wouldn't be as strong as you think.

And again, we have no idea what the Bears were offering or if they even offered that deal to us. Maybe they never even got to us in offering a trade. Maybe they started with teams below us and as they worked their way up, they found a willing partner in the Giants.

Every trade made isn't available to every team. You don't know who wants to deal with who or how they communicate on these things. Bears were probably more inclined to see if the Giants would bite since it's not out of the realm of possibilities for them to go QB with two still on the board. You already knew the Cowboys weren't going QB.

The player they wanted and a 3rd round pick is a win. Wish they had an opportunity to deal with the Bears.

They had the opportunity and chose not to go that far down. It has been a discussion point for awhile. However, the Pats where a very realistic possibility, but BB and company held the line and it payed off. It's not easy to take advantage of them.

Jerry said on the post draft PC. They had discussed this trade with the Eagles for a few days before the draft. If players were there or not there for both teams. They would look at the trade.

Jerry did not say, that I heard, or did not hear actually. That the trade was offered by the Bears. He did say, something to the effect as @Rockport mentioned. They did not want to trade down too far to lose the player they had ranked highest on their board at the time they picked. As the value to them to drop too low may not be worth the trade down. That also was discussed before the draft.
So they had a plan and stuck to it.

Look at the players that were taken around 20th. Would any of them be the impact that Parsons can be? Not sure, but IMO, no.

As much as I wanted them to trade down and get a 2022 1st round pick, you are not guaranteed where hat pick may be, as well you need help now, not in 2022. If they would have taken that trade, and lost on Parsons, I guess I would be ok with that, however, I am fine with the way it worked out as well.

Hadn't seen/heard where the Bears spoke with Cowboys. Interesting.

In fairness I'm getting my info off of a ton of various podcasts and don't know it to be fact, but the talk all along has been that it's farther back than we want to go.

Pats deal was really interesting as it was supposed to also involve various players on expiring contracts. I cant believe they just sat there and still got a QB.
