The way I'm seeing it, Joseph was a panic pick after Moehrig got snapped up right before us, and our trio of 3rd rounders look like the kind of guys a coach would fall in love with rather than guys a scouting director would fall in love with.

Based on history, 80% odds Joseph or Parsons will get into legal problems or have massive clashes with coaches or fellow players.

Golston and Wright will never play an NFL down in the regular season for anyone. Fellow league GM's are laughing out loud at those two selections.

Odighizuwa might be a serviceable rotational piece after his rookie season.

Perhaps we should wait until these draft picks participate in a few downs of football before passing judgement.

As controversial as it sounds, McClay might just know what he's doing, being a professional with several years experience and all.

In fact, I'm even going to go out on the ledge a bit and suggest that perhaps he was instructed by the coaches to concentrate on players with specific attributes that fit the style of defense they plan on utilizing.

There seems to be this perception that all these draft picks are supposed to be "plug and play" and NFL defenses are generic, talent level is the only criteria.

What made the Cowboy defenses so effective in the 70's wasn't talent level but the players ability to adhere to the system installed by Landry that required the players to react based on "keys' they recognized in their opponent's offense.

The entire NFL wasn't stupid. They didn't pass on Everson Walls and Michael Downs in the 1981 draft because they didn't recognize amazing talent. Those two undrafted rookie free agents started and was part of the 3rd most INT's in a season in NFL history because they followed Landry's instructions and learned the system.

This is the type of thread that posters can go back and laugh at the opinions on players that become Pro Bowlers, All Pro's, HOFers, etc.

We are the ones on the outside looking in. We are the ones that pretend to know what we are talking about sitting comfortably in our computer chair sipping on a beer. McClay does the actual footwork. McClay has the actual experience, knowledge and expertise.

Legitimately nobody has a clue if any of these guys will be good. I remember when we drafted dware over Sean Merriman and people flipped out.... or when we did the Frederick trade. Or when people said Mo Claiborne and Bobby carpenter were “safe picks”. Truth is no one knows

The worst is how people rip the draft picks. Then if the player turns out to be bad they can say “ I told you so”.... and if the player turns out good nobody is going to look back at posts from 1-2 years ago.... so they don’t have to admit they were ever wrong.

That just highlights how moronic it is to stand pat with all their "random" picks instead of moving up to get a quality player.

As other teams did it right in front of us time after time.

I just found this draft to be odd. Not typical of how I see the Cowboys usually draft, and almost opposite of last year in regards to the actual players. But I'll hold my tongue until I see how they pan out.

The first guy we took, even though I liked him, I had him as a 3rd rounder. Then the next 3 picks I didn't see in the top 100. Just odd.

80 percent chance you have no clue how this draft class will turn out.

90 percent chance you make many arguments in your everyday life using percentages you pull out of thin air.

95 perfect chance you’re full of s and half this board is groaning at your take.

With a 30 day ban and upon your return, you might become a serviceable poster.

In all honesty the only questionable pick was Wright. I’m good with all the others. People get so amped up when Dallas doesn’t take who they want. Chill

McClay is not the problem.

GMs thinking all they need is a few role players to help the manage the cap is the problem.

Stephen places more emphasis on the cap than players and performance, like there's some secret competition for best money manager

When your paying your mediocre QB 160...and fat RB 90 million....you gotta cut costs somewhere.

This organization seems like it's always one step behind. This draft being a classic example.....this philosophy of "let the draft come to them".....has let so many good players get plucked right under the noses. Sitting on all these day 3 picks....SMH....when maybe they could be better used to trade up and secure better players.

We all know the Jones’ are never gonna step down, so that’s off the table.

But Will McClay, the glorified draft savant, just played a major part in using 3 straight high-end, quality draft positions to select absolute nobodies. Guys who should be late rounders or UDFAs. As usual, the Cowboys outsmarted themselves by trying to think they’re smarter than everyone else.

It’s concerning how inept this draft class looks to be, and Will McClay’s ONLY job is to prepare for this night.

This night - specifically the 3rd round - was a disaster.

McClay, please take a hike.
You get a big lol on this take. I'm guessing that you have never watched any video on any of these picks. I can tell you that the team is going to be much better on defense this year.

Nobodies based on what?

The fact that some of you still don’t understand how random the 3rd-7th rounds of the NFL draft are blows my mind.
Based on our W-L record with this front office drafting for many years.

Top to bottom failure by entire front office.

No criticism harsh enough, no yelling loud enough, no liquor strong enough.
Nor can you say this enough. This is as bad as that special teams draft years ago.

There is no better predictor of future action than past behavior.

NFL.Bites reports that 20 GM's said Joseph was off their boards entirely (wouldn't draft no matter what) because of character issues.

As for the new linebacker? Just google a bit on "Micah Parsons off-the-field"

If you accuse somebody for bad selection of players at least point the finger to the guys who are actually are in charge.
This is not McClays fault the Joneses dont get it. Its an icompetent owner and his son and (maybe) an also incompetent HC.

You need strong character guys on your team if you draft players like that.

But with people like Smith, DFlaw, Gregory and so on these guys wont get on the right track.
