We all know the Jones’ are never gonna step down, so that’s off the table.

But Will McClay, the glorified draft savant, just played a major part in using 3 straight high-end, quality draft positions to select absolute nobodies. Guys who should be late rounders or UDFAs. As usual, the Cowboys outsmarted themselves by trying to think they’re smarter than everyone else.

It’s concerning how inept this draft class looks to be, and Will McClay’s ONLY job is to prepare for this night.

This night - specifically the 3rd round - was a disaster.

McClay, please take a hike.
I'd agree…..if talent doesn't pan out. Unless the Football Gods lean down an surprise us all.....a bad draft (again)…...should doom him. We can only wait now.

This is Quinn making demands.

So much for MM saying we draft good players and make the scheme fit them.

This is some BS

yup.

I don’t think this is all Will McClays fault...

has to be a power struggle somewhere between Quinn and Will.

I disagree. You find diamonds in every round and bust in every round that people said were going to be great. The defense needs help everywhere I much prefer throw multiple picks at it to give yourself a chance of hitting.

If the defense was a player or two away, or great value drops some, then yes trade up some to get that guy. This defense isn't a player or 2 away

Nahshon Wright is going to be kicked to the curb by next season, it is wasted value in my opinion that could have been spent to fill other needs by packing some picks to move up.

But that’s my point, after our second pick how many guys were there that are clearly more likely to be stars than anyone else still on the board? Every player outside the top 50-60 guys every year has HUGE holes in their game and have big bust potential because of it.

Forget stars I will take a guy who has a chance to still be on the team next year. I doubt Nahshon Wright will be. They had too much draft capital to sit on their thumbs, they needed to be more aggressive in my opinion.

Yes, let's fire him because none of the guys the Cowboys took in the third round were rated highly by all the media experts. Nevermind the fact these guys haven't even had a pro practice yet, let alone, you know, actually play in a game.

Ahhh.. Other drafting services did not have them highly ranked either.
And I'm not saying Del Kupper. He is an idiot.

You don't know that so stop acting like you do. It's possible you're right and gets cut or practice squad guy. It's also possible he makes the team and contributes

Aven8 and CowboysFaninHouston both made recent posts regarding defensive talent evaluation and acquisition.

It has sucked since Parcells departure and continues to suck regardless of scheme, scouts, DC's or position coaches.

This organization does not know how to build an effective defensive roster.

Period.

It’s very strange what they are thinking. I would love to be a fly on the wall and had seen the discussions last night. Maybe these dudes are amazing and we look like fools. The last pick was the worst.

What's it matter? I've been lead to believe that all we need is Dak and everything else will just fall into place.

A far cry from last year valued oriented draft class .... this year reaches, rotation guys and projects .. multiple picks avalaible and didn't even bother to package and trade up for a more profile

teams aggressively trading up in front of Cowboys to get the Grant, Moehring. .

they prefered Wright over Elijah Moulding who couldve been a Tyranny Mathie type safety.

and we got Nuthing from that Eagles 3rd round trade pick .... !

The problem is our FO doesn't know what they are doing. We reach for players rounds before they are suppose to get picked at times. It is a disaster but it starts from the Jones.

You get a big lol on this take. I'm guessing that you have never watched any video on any of these picks. I can tell you that the team is going to be much better on defense this year.

Objection: assuming facts not in evidence.

I was scratching my head too, but you can’t seriously judge a draft 5 minutes after day 2. Again, not saying we drafted the legion of boom or anything, but Seahawks fans where up in arms when Sherman, Browning, and Chancellor were picked. When they grabbed Bruce Irvin everyone was shocked and their fans were pissed (have a buddy who’s a Hawks fan).

Can’t judge a draft until 2-3 years after. Does look shaky right now but I’m not going to lose sleep over a future I can’t predict. These guys could all be great picks or terrible picks, we have 0 idea right now.

Absolutely this. People have to give these guys a chance before pronouncing doom.

Didn’t McCarthy say he wanted the best players and figure out how to use them instead of lesser players to fit a scheme?

Guess Dan Quinn got to control the draft.....sure hope Dan Quinn doesn't transition the Cowboys into Atlanta 2.0.
