Scouts knew something was there with Romo

The Skinny: This guy may be the gem of this deep QB class. He is an ideal fit for the West Coast offense that emphasizes accuracy, mobility and quick decision-making. He has the triangle numbers NFL scouts seek in a pro prospect and he has the makeup to become a starter with further development and continued improvement. He has the talent to surprise over time and may be the best small college passer since Kurt Warner.
This guy may be the gem of this deep QB class........who are u referring too??

I don’t remember how many games Ben was active for or if he is PS eligible

Okay, I didn't realize that "PS eligible" is a thing. I figured they could always put any player on the PS, but the NFL does make all kinds of complex rules, and I'm not always up on all of them. I would like to see them expand the number of players you're allowed to have on a roster, but that's another topic.

Once you are active for so many games you can’t go back on PS
Last year they waived that and vets could be on PS

You just don't know when to quit digging. First, there is a huge difference between an opinion and a fact. I welcome all opinions but you are not entitled to your own facts. When you say a player only played one game his entire career, that's not an opinion it's attempting to state a fact but in the case of Garrett Gilbert, it's just flat-out inaccurate. He did in fact play in multiple games in multiple years no matter how many passes he threw. He is a vested veteran but you would have us think otherwise. Conceding you were brutal in regards to his game against the Steelers last season does not save you from your other inaccurate statements. If you want to express your opinion, please feel free. I will never challenge your opinion, including preferring to bring in Driskel for the backup spot. I like that you had to do your research to get Driskel's stats right. I only wish you had done the same before you said Garrett Gilbert had only played one game his entire career. That obvious fallacy made you sound like(I'm going to say it again) an idiot.

Let's call it a truce. I should have stated that the only meaningful snaps that Gilbert ever took in a game were the snaps that he started in the game for Dallas. The other 6 games that he appeared in he was not a factor and not meant to be a factor. I am more than fine with him competing for the backup spot and if he proves that he deserves it then that is great because he would be a very inexpensive option. It's obvious that Jerry is not going to spend a lot of money on a backup so our options are limited. Below is Gilbert's game experience prior to starting the one game for Dallas.

2018 Carolina was up 30-7 in 4th Qtr when Kyle Allen got hurt - He played 13 snaps in garbage time - Handed the ball off 9 times - Got sacked 1 time - Completed 2 out of 3 passes
2019 Against Cincy - He played 1 play - Came into the game to kneel on the last play of the game
2019 Against Miami - He played 1 play - Came into the game to kneel on the last play of the game
2019 Against Pitt - He played 1 play - Came into the game to kneel on the last play of the game
2019 Against Pitt - He played 2 plays - Threw 2 incomplete passes to end the 1st half. Not sure why he entered the game for Mayfield but Mayfield returned and played the entire 2nd half
2019 Against SF - SF up 31-3 in garbage time - He played 3 snaps to end the game - Handed the ball off twice and threw 1 incomplete pass

Here is some of new rules this year related to PS and hold outs
Love the holdout rules

Rosters
◦ Teams can designate an additional player to return from injured reserve each year (three instead of two)
◦ Two practice-squad players each week can be elevated to the team's active roster, and a team doesn't have to replace the player on the practice squad
◦ Active game-day rosters increased from 46 to 48 players
◦ Practice squads expanded from 10 to 12 players in 2020-2021, then to 14 players starting in 2022 (including between two and four players with unlimited accrued seasons per team.

Holdouts
◦ Increased fines for holdouts and players who leave training camp without permission
◦ Players under contract who fail to report to camp on time or leaves the team for more than five days without permission will no longer be eligible to earn an accrued season for that year

Multiple games, Multiple seasons... exactly as I stated. Contrast that to your original statement, "he played one game his entire NFL career"... a provable inaccurate claim. Now you've done your homework and see the error in your words. Likewise, you now want to call a truce. I don't blame you. Your opinion I will always respect but I will never respect inaccuracies stated as fact.

Truce accepted. I consider this a closed discussion.

Teams are probably waiting for Mullens to pass a physical before any deal. He had elbow surgery in December

Here is my exact quote "Garrett Gilbert had 1 start in his entire NFL career. Looked good for a half against the Steelers but turned to garbage in the 2nd half when they figured him out."

I stated Garrett Gilbert had 1 start in his entire NFL career. That is a fact, not an opinion. Yes, he made brief appearances in 6 other games but was never a starter until the game with Dallas last year. You misread what I typed. Go back and read my original post.

The 2nd part of my post about Gilbert was opinion based, "Looked good for a half against the Steelers but turned to garbage in the 2nd half when they figured him out".

Anyway, I think we are in agreement that we want the best possible situation for the Cowboys back up QB position. If Gilbert wins the job then I am cool with that. I just don't want the job handed to someone. There should be an open competition behind Dak for the job so I don't want Gilbert promised the job or Driskel promised the job (if he is signed).
