LOL - Gilbert hasn't been injured and beat up because he has not been good enough to even make an active roster - therefore not playing at all - for say his 8 years in the league.
First NFL game action was at the end of the 2018 season - Gilbert was brought back on waivers after two Carolina Panthers were shut down...and a third QB ahead of him was injured. Yes- Gilbert's best performances was with the Apollos in the AAF's first and only season. But once back in the NFL (Browns for the 2019 season) he was back to his PS role.
Before his game v. the Steelers last November, Gilbert's accumulated NFL stats:
Carolina.- 1 game appearance - 3 attempts, 2 completions, 40 yds
Cleveland- 5 game appearances - 3 attempts, no completions.
I give the man props for maintaining an NFL career (and making good $$$$) approaching a decade. But Garrett Gilbert's body of work does not warrant him being the the Cowboys' backup QB for the 2021 season without competition from some others.
your not wrong, but your looking at it with standard football mentality.
It isnt his fault no team would let him play meaningful full games. it is hard to get out of the bkup roles, usually it only happens when
the starter and maybe the # 2 qb are both hurt.
like dak was very lucky in his situation, Brady took over for a injured bledsoe, kurt warner was a GG himself, he was even out of the league,
and he lucked out when green got a season ending injury, and he then got some games to show what he could do and the rest is history.
I am not saying GG is great or could be, I would just like to see him get a few games with the starters. Then he could be evaluated again.
Foles is another one, only got to play because wentz got hurt.
I think GG just hasnt had the good luck he needs to get some starts, and you say he is not good enough, but no one really knows that.
