Against a bunch of other bubble players, what do they learn? How well a player does against another player destined for Home Depot?

I do agree that the coaches have a plan on what they're using them for but they all know what they're seeing isn't real.

I am still not over being forced to buy two pretend games at full price in August in Texas Stadium when I had season tickets. That last year I couldn't give them away and my wife wouldn't go to game until October. The old TS was among the worst places I ever watched a football game in Aug/Sept, it was stifling. I hoped they start serving beans so at least some farts would create some wind. And a day game to open the season when the sun hits was what I picture home games in Hell are like.
I was thinking about texas stadium, and it was a joke, the worst stadium ever built.
If the roof had worked, and they could AC it , and keep snow or rain out then it would have been good, but as it was, it was a disaster.

Had they just built an open stadium, they would have made more money since it probably could have held way more people , and open games
are not as hot.
I dont think retractable roofs are smart, not worth the risks and expense to build repair maintain.

NFL Preseason….the most overrated, low quality, boring games in team sports. The ONLY reason we still have them is because the owners want to keep them for these reasons:
  • They can charge suckers full price to mostly watch guys that will never amount to anything in the NFL.
  • Builds fan hype for the upcoming season.
  • Coaches say they (not all) like having the extra time to make roster decisions.
In reality, preseason games are unnecessary and have been for many years. Here are some reasons why we should get rid of them:
  • Veteran Players hate them because of the injury risks in games that are literally meaningless. PS games used to be in place partly as a way to help players get back in football shape. Not necessary today.
  • Coaches never reveal much of anything about their offensive or defensive schemes in these meaningless games.
  • Roster decisions can be made by coaches without these half speed contests. College football does it all the time. They don’t have ps games.
Preseason games are a business decision not a football decision. A lot of fans love them because we are all starved for football now. But I don’t really take much of what happens between OTAs and the first real game in Sept that serious.

Most of that stuff is hype until the real bullets start flying in real games.

Good .. no overseas in London, wake up at 6:30am Sunday for pre-game and 7:30am Cowboys game. :p

Also good... i actually love preseason games because it's a chance for developing and getting rookies and very raw backups the kind of game experience they usually won't
get in regular season game, (ala DiNucci) and potential practice squad candidates to make an impression,..

we dont need to see Tyron Smith and Lael Collins, Zeke or Cooper for all preseason games, imo. at the least the very first series or two after the very 1st preseason game...at the least.

Not as boring as the wnba, or watching the two worst teams in baseball play in early September after both are eliminated...just saying....there are quite a few other sports situations that are actually much more boring.

Now...I know how much you hate the preseason so you might not want to publicly admit it...but I would bet dollars to doughnuts that you would rather watch the cowboys vs the steelers in a preseason game than the Pittsburgh pirates vs the NY Mets in an early September "slugfest"

Preseason sucks but still many worse sporting events...

There's no substitute for live game experience for your rookies and developmental guys.
Not even training camp, live scrimmage game can give you that.

But you wanna see the names on the back of the jerseys that badly, then preseason games are not for you.
i do agree that NFL owners should not be charging same price for preseason as they do for regular season, as you are not gonna get the
same quality of player entertainment and stakes on the line as regular season ;)

Jip I certainly agree with you about the WNBA and MLB. I would rather watch a tortoise race than either of those. But that doesn’t mean I like NFL ps games either, LOL.

Two of my sons played high school basketball and as a supportive dad, I went to all their games- even the preseason “practice games” and AAU off season games. But I would be lying if I said I liked those contests. They were not only boring, they were usually just a showcase for individual players, not any kind of team thing. That’s kind of how I feel about ps games.

yeah, its funny, i don't like preseason games either and in my youth i would watch every second...the past 5 years i have watched here and there but not like i used to (38 now and with 3 kids means other priorities)...im sure this year i will be glued to the tv for the pitt game but then will fade as usual...

Personally - i would much rather them go to a "scrimmage" model where they would have controlled scrimmages where they could practice certain situations with other teams that would allow them to really make them useful in evaluating players. I honestly feel some of the scrimmages give more value and benefit that the ps games do because you can much more easily setup what you want to evaluate as opposed to hoping it happens in a live game.

I would be okay with two preseason games. They make me nervous in terms of potential injury. Also, I really dislike the Cowboys playing way too often in the HOF game, far more than other teams.

The road to 6 starts on August 5th.

Man that'd be a sweet t-shirt too.

Not feeling it. The T-shirt slogan I mean. Maybe if it had something about Wentz on there.

“I Wentz to Philly… and all I got was this stupid shirt and zero playoff wins”?

Or Maybe, “Wentz went to Philly and Philly went to hell… so Wentz went to Indy”?
