Why all the negativity?

I knew them when they were a real thing. I'm life-long. Saw every Super Bowl.

And even I barely care now.

Sub-40s people think the Cowboys are the Lions.

Then let them go root for the Lions. You too, since you barely care now.

And people do go on the ride. But it doesn't mean that they have to do so blindly and with complete loyalty where they ignore the realities facing a team they root for. The reality is that history is a better indicator of future success than you want to think. There's a reason this team has 4 playoff wins in 25 years. And it's not bad luck.

The reason is that Jerry and his son simply have struggled to build a consistent, SB caliber team for any stretch of time over the last 25 years. Whether it's been dumb roster decisions or questionable assistant hirings or bad decisions with HCs, the Jones have found a way to undercut the few good things they do. Again, 25 years is a pretty strong track record here.

And that's why people are often hesitant to get on the "hey, this is the year" bandwagon. I suspect many fans who are no longer willing to give the benefit of the doubt, did at one point, but after continual gut punches they've learned. So now they are simply in the class of I'll believe it when I see it. And that's a logical and fair place to be. It doesn't mean they can't enjoy a good season or a good playoff run if it happens. It just means that after years of blind loyalty, they've learned their lesson.
I don't understand why you responded to me this way because I specifically said I wasn't talking about people not being realistic or not recognizing where the team needs to improve. I clearly did not indicate people should be blind to problems, or jump on the bandwagon. I just talked about recognizing that every year is different, that history has shown that how things go one year does not dictate how they go the next, and the belief in the essence of competition, which is to overcome obstacles. My point was simply that I don't understand being a fan if you go into every year with the belief there is no room for optimism.

We do not need fair weather fans, they get booted off the back of the train, though they try to get back on like a brain starved zombie. :lmao2:
But I guess all teams needs fans like that to have debates from both sides. I makes it interesting at times, if posted in a decent manner.

I look at every season as a new dawn of the next SB run, no matter the previous years.

I don't care what kind of fan anyone is or even if they are a fan. Some seem to be bothered by others' fanhoods.

Every team that has ever won anything has picked up fans because some people want to associate themselves with a winner. And being a fan isn't important to them as it might be to others.

And there are some of us that just can't prevent ourselves from being a fan. I grew up with this team, leaving them would be like turning my back on one of my oldest friends. At some point in my life, being a Cowboys fan became part of my fabric and is within the tapestry of my life. I can't escape it or quit it.

I feel the same. Basically Grew up with them as I liked them ever since the ice bowl when I was old enough to know more about football. I do not know any other way but to be a fan, and enter every new season with optimism.

Even going into 1989, I knew they were not going to make the playoffs, but I was optimistic on seeing what the next few years were going to be and watch them grow as they did.

The problem is there seems to be an insinuation that those critical of the team aren't loyal, which is preposterous. Being positive about the team, even when you know you shouldn't be, isn't some sort of badge of honor one thinks it is. It doesn't make one a better fan. That's the point people are making.

Fandom comes in all shapes and sizes. Some choose to ignore everything and think the team is gonna be awesome. Some toe the line and admit that they hope this is the year but can't turn a blind eye to the real problems the franchise has faced. Others have been beaten down so much by mediocre football with no real success in 25 years and that manifests in disappointment and negative posts.

Frankly, one can argue those that are highly critical of the team are even more loyal than the homers because they continue to watch and root for the team despite all the BS we've put up with as fans over the years.
No insinuation, I was clear when I said, to each his own....I'm talking about myself.

Oh please, buy yourself a clue. Trolls ? Try the term “Realists”. They see the fact that there is a 25 and counting year body of proof that Jerry and his son Jethro cannot build a playoff or championship winning team. Period. End of story. It doesn’t matter who is coaching, playing QB, who is drafted, or what free agents are signed. It’s a perverted game of “Whack A Mole”: in any given season the offense is good but defense sucks, or special teams suck, or stupid coaching hires with their idiot game management decisions and antiquated schemes. Or bargain basement free agents, or giving big contracts to the wrong players. Get your crayons and put on your feet pajamas and keep coloring your Cowboys Will Win coloring book instead of calling the grown ups who can handle the facts Trolls.
The Joneses have three SB wins. You can say it's because of Jimmy, but why is it impossible for them to find another Jimmy? There aren't any owners in the league with a surefire system. Every one of them is just hoping the people they hire can make the most out of the players on the field. Can Mike do that with these guys? Maybe. If not, what about the next HC? Every team has the same problem.

We just have the added obstacle of an owner who wants to be known as a football guy, and he is, to an extent. That's probably the biggest issue. It's like a guy who knows a little bit of martial arts: He thinks he's tougher than he really is. It's just a matter of time before he gets his *** handed to him enough to realize he's not a world beater. Some people are stubborn, but nobody likes getting whooped all the time.

Well, the point of this site is to be a place for fans to gather, and it is a little odd that some don't seem to actually be a fan of anything ...

But I don't think it's so much that people care about a person's fanhood as much as the seeming effort of some to convince folks that being a fan means seeing nothing but darkness and misery. Lots of folks understand you can see flaws in a team and still have some hope for a new season, knowing history has proven one season doesn't automatically dictate the next.

I know you are a business man. Suppose you ran a business and saw problems within the company that persisted over the years. So, at the start of the new year you implement changes, but some of your staff can only comment that problems cannot be fixed, change isn't possible and there is no room for hope. I'm guessing your reaction would be less than accepting.

Remember the Debbie Downer character from SNL, or Randy Quaid's character in the Major League movies? It's humorous in a comedic program, but not so much in the real world.

The old tiny brain juvenile guy who jumps from thread to thread crying about "haters".or the guy who cries about people not having a good debate, then resorts to name-calling because he has one opinion and that's his and nobody else is right.? naw haven't seen anything that looks like negative on here!

This is an interesting comment from a guy who jumps from thread to thread bashing Dak even when the topic of the thread or the context of the discussion isn't about Dak.

But it is an oddly valid observation.

Because I don't take this stuff seriously. Some of you guys act like those that are critical of the team, log off this site, go sit in a dark room in their house and cry, or that they hit their kids or dogs out of Cowboys frustration, or are grouchy in real life, etc.

That's not the case. I like Cowboys football. It pisses me off that Jerry has squandered 25 years of some pretty good players with his arrogance and stupidity. But when a game ends or I am not on this board, my life is great. I coach my kids' sports, I play golf with friends (just got back from a nice golf trip with my father and some of his friends), yesterday afternoon my 6 year old boy and I played a quick 9 holes of golf, we went to great neighborhood party last night, etc. Cowboys football doesn't consume me. Call me the Jaylon Smith of fans, if you must. I have way too many off the field things to do and entertain myself than focus on the Cowboys 24/7 and let the fact they have largely been disappointing for a long period to bother me.

But as long as I am a Cowboys fan, I am going to call it like I see it. And as I see it, we are in a pretty shoddy run here of a quarter century and it doesn't appear Jerry and Stephen are any closer to figuring out how to build a SB winner than they were when they first decided they were going to handle everything after Jimmy was sent packing.
You bring up some good points, but the best point that you make is that these “negative “ fans does not let a football team ruin their life and happiness. For those posters that assumes that we are living in misery is based on pure ignorance. I can’t imagine a full grown adult that is living in misery because of a football team. If the Cowboys have that much influence in a fan’s life, then it is time for the fan to call it quits.

I try. Believe me I try. Just look at what the habitual haters say to me. But I’ll never give up. It’s not in my DNA like it is for them.
This is really sad. You blindly support every move the team makes. Considering the history of losing the last 25 years, maybe you should quit and reevaluate what you are cheering for. It is not an admirable trait to support losing. Condoning the poor coaching and poor play does nothing to help the team.

I don't think that's fair or accurate. Like a lot of people he doesn't blindly believe that anything a person can dream up that is negative has to be true, or that the negatives make it impossible for anything positive to occur, but that's not the same as being blind to problems.

I've experienced the same thing. I wanted the team to move on from Jason Garrett for several years before it did, but because I didn't agree with comments like "he doesn't care about winning" or "he throws everyone under the bus" I got accused by some of being a blind homer who doesn't think the team or Garrett does anything wrong. Believing the team (or a coach or the GM) is flawed doesn't require believing that everything is flawed, or the person has no positive traits, but that's the kind of reasoning that gets put out there sometimes.

I'll good with that. I'm smart enough to know what deficiencies we have, but I'm smart enough not to let them sway my loyalty.
Good summation of how I feel about the Boys.

To some extent, I blame social media for all the negativity - not just in this for, but as a general symptom of today's society.

Regardless the results from the previous season, I am always, always optimistic this time of the year. And, regardless the outcome of this season, I will watch and enjoy the Cowboys.

I've transcended the blind loyalty fan and, now, enjoy the games for their entertainment value

Go Cowboys
