I do think Parsons was the guy all along

I don't root for anyone that doesn't have a star on their helmet, including the rookies.

Actually I did cut him some slack by stating it was a solid move after the fact the two targeted CB’s were selected right in front of us .

I’m just not going to argue Parsons was their intention at the 10th pick. Was he on their board and regarded as best defensive player in draft . Yes
You are going to argue anything and everything when it comes to Booger.

Giving him credit for a default move is your slack and that's fine, I do not dislike him as much as you do in his GM role, I dislike him. That's a period at the end of that as in I dislike him period but I didn't want to write that but I guess I did anyway.

One other thing about this draft board. There was an interview with Jane Slater the week of the draft and they were discussing the Cowboys first pick and she just flat out, without hesitation, said it was Parsons. I believe she had very definitive information that made he so sure about it.

This was around the same time that CAR made their public comments about Horn so the board could have changed, none of the boards stay static from the first one they do. They're constantly evaluating the draft boards they have.

Not everything. I gave him some credit. And have when felt was appropriate. Don’t try and discredit me with my rants on Jethro.

We made a solid trade down after the fact assuming the Bears didn’t offer a 1st for our pick like they did NY.

I’d be more curious why you have changed your mind ?

Anything’s possible. Parsons was on their board and highest ranked defensive player. Did you see the reactions after Surtain and Horn were selected?

And if Parsons was our guy why didn’t we stand put and select him with the 10th pick. There was no guarantee he’d be there.

Combination of things but it began when I backtracked after the draft.

Nolan was fired and Quinn hired because of the run D. I believe part of that problem was the MLB.

The best player on Quinn's D in SEA was the MLB. His absence changed the D as we saw when we played them in SEA. Nobody ran the ball on SEA except when Wagner was out.

The public love CAR expressed for Horn, I thought he was gone.

If DEN is rolling with their QB's, then their biggest need was CB with the QB's they face in the NFC West.

Jane Slater's unwavering matter of fact it would be Parsons and saying nothing beyond that. Somebody told her and suspect one of the Joneses, now she owes them.

Booger's comments about discounting any player that opted out was a smokescreen as he had absolutely no reason to make that statement except to throw others off the trail.

And the feeling I had all along every time someone mentioned the Cowboys taking a CB. How did that address the problem? It didn't make sense to me. No NFL team that is that bad in run D, because that's particularly embarrassing, is going to fix that with a CB. And tackling was the calling card of Parsons, it just made sense to me.

Alone, anyone of those is something to consider but combined, the conclusion was simple to me.

But there wasn't that guy where they were picking in this draft, not a DE either. They went next best thing with a tackling machine MLB.

They did address the DT position and I think Quinn pretty much knows his DT's are responsible for keeping the interior lineman off his MLB.

One thing for sure, neither of those CB's were going to fix the run D.

Belechek actually builds his defenses from the secondary. You can't have a weak level of defense in the NFL.

We have a tackling machine at LB already in Jaylon Smith. Go look at his impressive tackling stats. They mean nothing.

We do not have a stud DT. We have some bigger guys and a lot of hope.

That trade down was what threw me off originally, why risk losing him? But to what team were they going to lose him to, PHL, NY or CHI that was desperately trying to move up and everyone knew the player? Parsons wasn't going to save the GM and HC's jobs.

I think they felt confident that as long as they didn't dip below 12, Parsons was theirs.

I do think if CHI offered that same deal to Booger, he didn't consider it. He's not about the future, he is all here and now. In that regard, he does behave like a GM on the hot seat.

Parsons was the best available talent on defense when we selected. No need to produce reasons to select him.

CB was a position of need on a defense which was our priority in draft. LB wasn’t as great of need unless we are releasing Van Esch or Jaylon after this year.

Usually when addressing run defense this era it’s DL or safety. Maybe we are considering moving Parsons to Safety. Or a hybrid of sorts with his speed and small size for LB.

Regardless , sounds like you’re hopping on Quinn’s wagon and trying to pin the tail and wanting to credit him for this pick. I’m not sure why it’s not enough to say it was a good pick after the fact? We made a good move .

There was no stud DT available.

Those tackling stats of Smith's, how many were made for losses or stops short of the 1st? Too few.

I agree, no weak levels on the D but what players/positions were available to address the #1 concern, the run D? This was an unusual draft for D with no DL in the top 15 pre draft and the first one taken at 18, that isn't the norm for any draft.

Why do you have a problem with it?

It is not enough to say it was a good pick after the fact because after the fact I called BS on their comments about him being the guy. I changed my mind which is why it's titled I do think Parsons was the guy all along. Now that all along might not be but the week of the draft, I do think he was at the top of their D board.

If he turned down the trade with Bears he should be bashed regardless if we know why. And he’s about here and now because it’s always about selling and promoting this year.

There’s no hot seat except this year. Then if it doesn’t meet expectations he can scapegoat, damage control and begin the spin for next year. Rinse and repeat. Vicious cycle with no accountability besides taking the public heat which he shrugs off.

I agree. He was near the top of their board. Most talented defensive player.

And of course it’s enough to say he was their guy after the fact.

And receive credit for trading down for additional pick. Good move. It’s how most of Dallas is treating it.

Why bash him on that trade? His target was still on the board and the Giants hopes were gone at 10. They knew they could get Toney later, if not in the 2nd round. I think if Parsons was off the board, Booger probably takes that trade, if that was actually the trade offered.

Let's not forget Booger puts a lot of credence in what his coaches tell him. To the chagrin of the scouts sometimes. What we don't know is how high was Quinn on Parsons and how hard did he sell him to Booger? What we do know is that Quinn sees Parsons as his MLB and potential playmaker of that front 7.

As they should, Parsons was not a consolation prize.

Tough to speculate on all of those moving pieces.

But sure, if we turned down a #1 and #3 from the Bears like Giants took , we should be bashed for such. Those are no brainer moves all GM’s but ours makes.

Do you know for sure CHI didn't offer that to every team after the 2nd WR came off the board?

Gregg, one thing I do know for a fact. GM's do not value 1st round picks like we do. If they did, they wouldn't deal them so often.

I’m not sure that’s the right word to use. Parsons was the best defensive player on the board when we selected. Not sure I’d call that “ consolation “. And we moved down and picked up another pick in selecting. Good move.

We’ll never know what we would have done if either Surtain or Horn had been there at #10 . Most experts and analysts I follow would argue we wouldn’t have selected Parsons at #10. It would have been one of the CB. We had an opportunity to select Parsons at #10 and didn’t.
