and I don't see Dallas letting 2 starting WR go. This past season they cleared 18 mill on Zack martin, Tyron Smith and Collins. Dak contract will be used just Romo and Aikman in restructure to free up money.

And how did those restructures ultimately work out? How much dead money did they have to deal with on each one of them? And where did it leave the team when they departed? It further proves my point.

Dallas is far from the only team who will do this, all teams do and we are no different.

Pointing to other teams’ bad decisions doesn’t make it OK for us.

I would think the odds of both Cooper and Gallup remaining is slim but no way they lose both

We’ll see when the time comes.

Unless this team craps the bed again, neither Cooper nor gallup will be traded during the season. I think the FO will keep cooper to further justify trading for him. I personally would keep cooper and let gallup walk. Gallup is a solid #2, but somebody will pay him like he's a #1 and he will likely be released by his new team within 2 seasons in a cost savings move. I really think he benefits from having Cooper opposite of him and from having Dak as his QB. If he goes to somebody like Denver or Detroit or Philly for big money, those fans will be very disappointed after a couple of sub par seasons from him.

Bad decision? it is how the NFL operates not Dallas but every team out there. You may not like it but NFL teams have to do that. Of course some releases happen because of the cap but you had several teams heading into this season who were over the cap and they restructured some deals to clear cap space and yes they released some it is the nature of the business

Yea, it’s the same reason Elliott bent him over. Jethro thought they were vital to Daks success. I’m not so sure that’s the case with Gallup. This season could tell us more.

Gallup will probably be a good example of someone you can resign at a fraction of the Cooper contract but they’ll let him walk.

Yes he is especially on this team. Coopers route running is what makes him special, that technical ability is also the one to diminish the least as he ages. Cooper is why Gallup looks good. Gallup is similar to smith-schuster in that while he is a good quality player he is not a #1, he can not create on his own like cooper can. Gallup is a great example of matching a really talented player with his perfect role and Lamb is more of the same. It's so much easier for defenses to game plan for Gallup than Cooper because of Coopers route running, that is how he beats you. You can not game plan for those moves. Dak will suffer without someone with Coopers elite route running ability.

If it helps you sleep at night, then let it be. But I doubt there's a coach, player, or waterboy who loses a wink of sleep over Amari Cooper. If anybody scares you, you shouldn't be playing at the NFL level.
For all the talk of game planning for him, you then do a 180 and say, "You can not game plan for those moves."

Which begs the question, please, "If you can not game plan for those moves, then why the hell would any team game plan around him? Aren't they wasting their valuable time?"

I seriously doubt Dak would suffer. Where was Amari in 2016? Not here.
And what did Dak do that year?

Your choice.

Is he 5 million better than Allen Robinson? Yes.

Frankly, I think they're all overpaid, but it is what it is. And this is the reason they talk position caps if the NFL is going to survive.
So no, to me, he's not. There are just too many talented options to break the bank for one guy.

And because ‘every team makes mistakes’ doesn’t mean we should too. Nor do we have to. It’s not like this is some ‘championship team’ we have to keep together. That’s the false mindset that repeatedly has this team spinning their wheels in continued mediocrity.

You say it is a mistake, Dallas is not going to get rid of both starting WR that would be stupid. Every team is not making a mistake, they know damn well when they sign these players to big contracts that these deals will be restructured. Of course you will lose some but you will not give up every key player.

now we’re going to ride that “Dak friendly” train like we have a Super Bowl caliber group that just never actually won anything! Players have become interchangeable and at no point after paying anyone top dollar has it ended well for this team! They really just don’t do a good enough job during the 4 year cycle and these contracts are the result.

All fine and good with AC getting the seasonal big catch numbers as I expect him to with the Dak passing game, ditto with the other two WRs per Lamb, Gallup.
But the “ disappearing act” reputation hasn’t gone away yet, imo

What I would want to see is Cooper our highest paid and most invested WR, consistently beating the more elite coverage CBs ala Darius Slay, Ramsey, Gilmore, Griffin, Lattimore, etc.
We pay him among the best, to beat the best.

Some think Lamb will eventually be our lead featured WR,.. think he will be our version of DeAndre Hopkins in the making.
Thus with a WR with that kind of magnitude, could make Cooper a complementary 2nd WR.

There’s been bookend WRs before such as Colts with Harrison/Wayne,.. Rams with Holt/Bruce,.. If your lead wide is hampered limited with injuries, is out of games, or being double teamed scheme limited, or having difficulty facing shutdown CBs, then that’s when you'd like to depend upon your second WR on the opposite side to step up and take over.

But Not every team has that kind of luxury.

All receivers have games where they "disappear". Just in 2020 the top 3 pass catchers in terms on catches/yards:

Diggs had games of 4/49, 6/48, 6/49 and 7/39
Adams had games of 3/36, 7/53, 7/42 and 6/46
Hopkins had games of 7/41, 2/73, 3/30, 4/35 and 8/48

Cooper did have two really bad games: 1/5 in the loss to philly and 2/10 in the win vs SF. Other than that, he's on par with the others in terms of "disappearing" in games.

Because both are true. Cooper is the most likely wr to be doubled on this team. But he can still beat you with his feet. Gallup is rarely double covered which allows him to use his speed/size/ catch radius to defeat his opponents. Now if Cooper is gone, the safety will then look to gallup as the #1 and just like schuster take him out of the game.

The reason you plan around cooper is to force the ball to one of the lesser receivers ie. Gallup, lamb etc. For instance Cooper will beat the CB on his route but there is still the safety over the top so if he still makes the catch he gets tackled immediately or Dak sees the safety help and goes a different direction.

Not sure if you just started watching games but Dak was pretty terrible with guys who are fairly consistent with Gallup, Lamb on this team. It wasn't untill Cooper came along and really gave Dak the type of target he needs to thrive.

You waste your time stretching your imagination and fail to see the reality of the situation.

"Cooper is the most likely wr to be doubled on this team." So what? Every team has a player "most likely to be doubled?"

The you start off on what happens IF......we don't know what happens IF......and all the suppositions in the world won't prove any IF. IF you need an IF to validate your thinking, you're welcome to it, enjoy it, but what does it prove?

I'll give you this IF, IF you were watching in 2016, it was pretty good year without Amari.

Keep telling yourself "they game plan around Cooper," like it some amazing idea. But did you ever think that every team is aware of the players they play each week and are aware of what certain players will do in certain situations and what a team might call in a given situation?

And since you want to compare who has watched more games, how about telling us when you started watching? I go right back to the beginning. Yeah, I'm old enough to have seen NFL games on a black and white TV!

But again, its your choice. Whatever helps you sleep at night is fine by me.

We know who Dak likes to target more than any WR and that is Cooper. I love the WR we have but unfortunately we will lose 1 after this season. I do think Cooper will have his deal restructured next season to free up space but I doubt it will be enough to keep Gallup. Now if this season is a disappointment and a failure I could see keeping Gallup and releasing Cooper. I think that may hold true for some other big salaries but if you asked me today I think Cooper will continue to be a Cowboy and Dak favorite target.

If the league is going to continue to raise the salary cap then why would their be position caps?

At the end of the day its a passing league. So for the best receivers you have to pay. Its just what it is. The league gives you discounts on running backs and tight ends lol.......

Remember when there was no cap? Then "they" decided to be competitive they had to level the playing field for the "poor" teams.
Eventually the same "poor" teams are going to realize they are still "poor" and can't afford the marquee players to make bank.
"They" will claim its "for the good of the league."

Like everything else "they" have done, once the fixing starts, it never stops. Its like when "they" started fixing the rules. Now every year "they" find more rules that need fixing.

Its just a matter of time before "they" do it.

You are more than welcome to be wrong, its ok.

But the Dez Terrance Williams duo is very much like having Gallup and Lamb, and before you tear TW down go look at their numbers side by side. Dak still did ok with that setup mostlly because Zeke was winning rushing tittles 2 out of those first 3 years and nearly a 3rd if not for a 6 game suspention. If I have to explain why zeke smashing opponents helps open up passing lanes then just delete your account now.

Then we have the games without a true #1 receiver. Do you remember that? it wasn't pretty but enter Cooper who immediately made a huge difference in the passing game. Still with my real life examples of what actually happened?

Would you like to re watch the jets game when cooper went out and Gallup played? Did Gallup breakout onto the scene that day or did he struggle vs #1 coverage like so many do?

You see Gallup is a really good player, we know this but he is not a #1 guy to lead a recieving corps consistently. Maybe he can be that, but his skillset as of today is not of a #1, its a #2 guy. So no I wouldn't pay him big $ to be something that doesn't suite him.

Skippy let's agree to disagree. But when you take the posture someone is wrong and can't prove a word you say, you've taken the wrong step.
That's all I read of your post. That's all I will read of it.
I have said YOUR CHOICE every post. And yet you persist is playing this fools game in attempting to convince us you have some wonderful insight that the NFL doesn't know.

We're done. I won't block you, but I won't respond to childish ignorance from this point forward.

I doubt it. If he was willing to sign for $5-7 million a year the Cowboys would keep him, but the price may be more like $15-16 million a year. Some team that needs a receiver will pay significant dollars for him, and with the Cowboys already paying one big WR contract, and having bot Cooper and Lamb to cover the position, the Cowboys won't pay that kind of money.
