I was a teammate of Jerry Jones Jr in college. Through him, I got to go to the owner’s box and meet his dad. Very outgoing and affable guy, just as his public persona is. But genuine as well. And a big drinker... As a bonus, Jerry Jr got us tickets for the ‘92 and ‘93 Super Bowls and got us into the players after party. It was amazing. Bought Aikman a beer. And spoke for a good while with Darren Woodson and Mark Tunei... Jerry Jr and I lost touch over the years, but these are lifetime memories.

I met Jerry and Stephen about 10 years ago. It was outside a church. Jerry and Stephen didn’t go to the church. Jerry was by the curb throwing rocks at the old ladies leaving mass and Stephen was in the parking lot letting air out of everybody’s tires. We chased them off. Jerry ran over a puppy during the getaway and Stephen mooned everyone. It was wild.

No, but I almost did.

A girl that I was dating was friends with a girl who married one of Jerry’s sons (I honestly can’t remember which one). My girlfriend was in the wedding and we had been planning to make the trip from Mississippi to Texas for a while. Well, not long before time for the marriage, I decided that I was wasting my time with this girl and broke up with her… not even thinking about the wedding. It was traumatic, like most break-ups.

Well, a couple of months later, she called me and had brought me Jerry’s autograph and best wishes from the wedding… so she was nice enough to do that even though I had broken up with her… or she wanted to have proof of her time mingling with the Cowboys front office and wanted me to regret missing the event. Either way, I have it around here somewhere.

What I didn’t mention to her was that the autograph that I really wanted was from Jimmy Johnson… not Jerry. Plus, that was right after my playing days, so I just knew Jerry was going to give me a tryout for the team, haha.

Alas, I broke up with crazy girl and so never got my tryout…

Just curious if anyone out there actually met Jerry Jones or Stephen in person. How did it happen? Just a chance meeting? A charity or football event? Business meeting?

What was he like?

I thought someone mentioned in some thread that he met Jerry. Not sure who it was.
Yep. Got to hang with Jerry for about an hour at a training camp. Very nice and humble man. I've been fortunate enough to meet and spend time with a bunch of players. Garrett was the only one that was a prick. Randy White, Eric Williams, John Dutton and George Teague were very nice guys.....all of them were cool!!!

I’ve met Jerry Jr. I went to law school with Jerry Jones nephew and he and Jr are tight. So I had a couple nights out with them when he was in town. Completely nice and great guy. This was mid to late 90s. I’ve never heard anything bad about them personally. My sister is in HP and has had kids there with their kids not a bad word.

Maybe Garrett was just having a bad day!

Not me, and I have no desire to ever rub elbows with Stephen. He is a no talent success story. At least Jerry has earned his success and seems like a decent person to be around.

I'd love to sit down and have a few drinks with Jerry. I'm sure he has the entire attention of the room that he's in. Having beers while him, Lacewell, and Switzer exchange football stories would be an incredible experience.

My wife and friends know Jerry Jr. He is supposedly the more outgoing of the kids, but I don't really know him.
I'm assuming you're referring to JWM from law school?
Back in the single days, we had some overlap. Good times.

I met Jerry at the Arlington airport maybe 10 years ago. He came to Arlington a few times instead of Love Field for some reason. The time I met him, the airport was having a BBQ event for the tenants and he came by and shook some hands and hung out with people. He was just like you see him on TV. Down to Earth, personable guy.

Nah. He was a pompous prick. Wade invited me and my staff for drinks, Saban and Mack Brown showed up as did their staff and Wade's staff...everyone except Garrett. The other assistants couldn't stand him.....that tells me a lot.

Jerry has always been intimidated by the Alpha male.....especially in groups.

Not surprising.....yet he begs for their approval.

I’ve met both of them . Was one of the first fans to use the Cowboys Travel Club which was created when Jones bought the team. Ran into several times at the team hotels we stayed at on the road. He was always appreciative of our support and took time to acknowledge. And at Training Camp he’d say hello as well. Very personable.

Years later ran into Stephen at Texas Stadium. He signed a program for me. My father and I were season tickets holder for most of 4 decades at Tex Stadium.

I highly recommend using the Cowboys Travel Club. You stay at the same hotel the team does on the road and ride in busses behind the team to stadium. Your tickets are all with the other fans traveling with the team providing an opportunity to meet fans from all over and where they are playing .

It also included a breakfast with one of the coaches and a meet and greet when the team arrives to the hotel along with some gear. Price includes everything but airfar or transportation to the hotel. A great experience for fans !

Jerry multiple times. Never directly met Stephen. Jerry is nice but always scanning for the women. Man loves a crowd and a party.

The nicest man I ever met from the Cowboys by far was Dave Campo. Terrific guy and a true gentleman. Close seconds were Bill Bates and Dat Nguyen. I've heard Darren Woodson and George Teague are we well.

And of course Roger. The man should be president of the United States

I've met Daryl Johnston, Charles Haley, and Tony Dorsett several times because our kids played soccer with and against each other for years. Daryl is especially cool. Charles is quiet. Tony doesn't like a lot of attention, but he's dealing with health issues. Our daughters were always matched up against each other, so we've talked and he's very complimentary.

I've also been neighbors with others over the years, but they usually are not there for long.

Was waiting for the team at the top of the escalator at the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta back in 1989. Jerry was the first person off the team bus. We shook hands and I introduced myself and the wife. He was a very warm and appeared to be a genuine and congenial person. He came across as if you were a fan of his team then you were a friend of his. Didn’t wash my hand for a week! A true gentleman. My CowboysZone picture is me shaking Jerry’s hand. Been a fan since The Ice Bowl game in 1967. Rode a bus loaded with Cowboys fans from Dallas to the stadium. That was back in the days when Cowboy Bill Lamza had a fab club in Dallas. He was also on the bus. He always dressed in Cowboys garb and you would see him at many of the games that were televised back in those days.

The only way I would believe that story is if you included that Stephen was taking money from the church offering plate.

I have a funny story. Back in the mid 90’s, the Cowboys’ web site was just horrible. It was always down, always crashing. So I looked up the site on WhoIs to find the contact information of someone and guess whose name was on the domain contact? Jerry freaking Jones. Talk about something that would never happen in 2021.

So I emailed him and they responded! I was contacted by, I want to say Derek Eagleton but it might have been someone else, and below in the headers I saw that the email was forwarded by Jerry Jones. It turns out though that it wasn’t Jerry senior, it was Jerry Jones junior. Anyway we arranged a phone call and I tried to convince them to hire me to fix it but all they wanted to understand were the problems and how to fix it.

The story doesn’t end there. So in 1999 (I think), the team was terrible and Aikman was in his final years. I decided to email Jerry senior directly - I could figure out his email address based on the naming convention. I wish I had a copy of it somewhere but I don’t. The email said that the team is falling apart and Aikman needs a weapon, please trade for Joey Galloway even if it takes two #1s!

He didn’t respond, but the trade happened! I always wonder if I in some small way planted that in his head or if based on my email he thought it was a good idea in order to appease the fans. If I ever do meet him some day, I’m going to ask!!

So there are people like me out there! Back in the 1990s when there was a rumor the Cowboys were going to trade Herschel Walker I wrote a letter to Jerry begging him to please not get fleeced on the deal. (Already I knew!) Anyway, he wrote me back, and not a form letter either. I still have it saved somewhere (I hope). Anyway, it was very nice and it is signed by Jerry although I have no idea if it was really him that signed it or some lackey in his office that signs all his letters. Of course the Cowboys did not get fleeced, they did the fleecing! I suspect it was Jimmy, not Jerry who made that deal. Anyway, I am certain my letter had nothing to do with it.

I was close to meeting Jeruh while at a coaching clinic they hosted 15-20 years ago at the old stadium . At lunch He spoke for about 5 mins, and introduced a few guys. He came to our table and shook a couple of guys hands.
