"Jerry Jones is like [former Raiders owner] Al Davis. He's calling the shots whether you agree with them or not," the agent told The Athletic. "Consider this: If Dallas had a GM for 25 years and they never won a Super Bowl during that time, would that guy still be Jerry's GM? Come on."

This guy has a valid point about Jerry Jones being a fan as a GM. His talent evaluation isn't well suited to building a winning team but rather suited to his misguided idea of how to best suit his purposes as an owner. The best GMs are far more interested in winning than how to get the best "bang for their buck." He's an outrageously poor judge of talent but would, rather, prefer to gather players to please the local fans and fill his stadium. His foolhardy passion for Johnny Manziel was a prime example of that fact. Fortunately, the committee comprised of those in the staff wisely overruled him.

I would not say over ruled but convinced Jerry that it would be wise to pass on Manziel. When BP was here he talked about Jerry will listen to those around him and expect them to make a case for why they feel this player should be taken as opposed to another player. In the end if falls on Jerry

I’m gonna have to be on both sides of the fence. I feel like he has done things his way until he hired Parcells, then he actually started listening to recommendations on personnel decisions. He’s bounced back and forth in picking his guys such as the Dez vs Demarco signing and letting Dak play under two tags but I feel he’s been a much worse “GM” than he is today. Today that title is just somewhere to place the blame. All of us here know to blame him anyways for things that go wrong so IDK where the harsh criticisms are coming from,

Jerry self-revealed a lot about his weakness as a GM at his “State of the Cowboys” presser a few weeks ago. While choking back his crocodile tears, he confessed that he would rather have a “beautiful” positive view of things than have a skeptical view- here’s an exact quote:
I've had a lot of people tell me, 'You're naive,' or say, 'He's naive.' Well, it's a beautiful world. ... It's a better world to be naive than to be skeptical and be negative all the time."

The sad truth is effective GMs have to have a worst case scenario eye for his team because that’s what it takes to build a roster. Having a rosy view is great in most things in life but not for a GM. THAT explains the last 25 years in a nutshell.

He's owns the team.
Most of us envy his position even though we may not always agree with him. He often does put his money where is mouth is.

Sure I can envy the fact that he owns the team.

it still doesn’t change the fact that Jerry insists on being the GM due to his own arrogance and refuses to hire a real GM to do the job.

Jerry doesn’t overpay for free agents
Jerry overpays for in-house players.

Bottom line, Jerry pays the players top buck. How could an NFL agent not like that? Unless one is upset Jerry won’t grossly overpay for free agents.

Jerry is a fan and a GM. Just like every other GM. They are all fans of the team. Jerry is closer to the players than other GMs in general.

And what does an agent know about building an NFL team?

If he was that astute he'd be on a team in scouting or the front office.

These kinds of posts are just so some can nod their heads sagely and say how right he is, because they agree with him. Or so that they can vent some more, add fuel to the fire.

Worthless post....

Everybody knows this.

Jerry would much rather lose his way than win any other way.

This team is his toy.

Yes. A toy he's destroyed for his own amusement.

And how was he greeted in his return from Oxnard this year by our fellow fans?

"Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!"

I have never met a person worth $5-10B but I assume almost all are narcissists. Jerry is probably the most down to earth billionaire one could ever meet.

A lot of the players are probably 10 times more narcissistic than Jerry.

For the most part, I have found really rich people tend to be jerks. Jerry is not a jerk if I had to guess. Jerry will buy you a drink and give you free tickets.

I agree with Hostile on this point. What other teams call a GM this team calls a Director of Player Personnel. In the Dallas system, the GM is a money man, not a player guy. As the other teams define the GM role, Stephen Jones has the title and Will McClay has 99% of the work of a 'player style' GM..

This is not new. This was the division of work when Tex Schramm was around as well.
