Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones were a good combo during the regular season last year and a better one in the playoffs. The defense limited both to 52 yards rushing and no touchdowns. Hopefully, this single game is a good indication of what the defense has in store for other teams' rushing attack this season.

It looked alot better. I just hope the pass rush shows improvement. The stops wont mean anything if we cant pressure the QB

Agreed. The ends were getting better push against the tackle later in the game but were mostly locked in one-on-one. Some of that can be attributed to their tackles' blocking but there should be better disengagement during the block to get after the quarterback.

Time is a factor though. Thankfully, there should be greater opportunities in that department down the road. Not too many quarterbacks share Tom Brady's consistent quick release.

They do have an excellent group of OT. Wirfs is a beast, and Smith is good enough to keep him on the right side.

Could be a good sign, but they only rushed 14 times. Was that because our Run DEF was so good? I think it more likely that Brady was able to do what he liked through the air and their offense went that way

Agree that the pass rush needs to show up and they need to do it in a hurry. That said, Brady got the ball out so quickly that no team's rushers would have gotten to him last night. I don't recall a single instance where Brady didn't immediately know where to go with the ball within a second of the snap. That, to me, says more about the secondary than about the pass rushers.

Agreed.

Also— nice to see us force 4 turnovers. Keep that up and we will win far, far more games than we will lose

Idk Tampa barely ran the ball and I saw urban and Watkins get pushed around the few times the bucs ran the ball. I didn't notice Bohanna playing last night. Hopefully, the run defense will show improvement this season

Maybe but then again at times the Bucs didn't even try to run because with Brady against our inept pass rush and the hole we had in the secondary, there was no reason to actually try to commit to the run game.

I think it was like with us, the reads on offense showed that we weren't going to let the run beat us. Why take the path of most resistance?

I am really shocked and appalled that this isn't talked about more on this forum. Oh wait, no I'm not. People would rather complain and cry and intently look for something negative as always, than talk about obvious improvements lol. Our run defense was historically bad and that has barely been brought up, even in the professional media. Negativity sells, unfortunately.

For the first game of the year, I think the defense played well. New DC, new players, new lineups, and new rotations. Going from memory, a couple of the longer runs were from the pile being pushed. There was not a large sample size, but the cowboys seemed to to have multiple guys getting to the ball carrier near the line of scrimmage.

One of the longer runs I remember where there was a hole, jaylon was taking a step back like it was going to be a pass which made him a bit late to the hole, but he made the tackle

Quinn came to the Cowboys and into this season with the mindset that they would stop the run at all costs and take their chances in pass defense.

That is obvious because of the way he used personnel in this game and in the preseason as well as by the types of DL he acquired (Run Stopping DTs over pass rushers).

Dont forget to mention the Short passing game. he (brady) is a killer at getting ball out quick. we need to pretend more to rush passer with LBs and drop them back in zones to stop that crap. Or at least if you cannot get to him get your hands up high to bat the ball down and take away his passing windows. I dont think i saw one hand up last night just heads down trying to get around there man.
