Our first 6 picks in the 2021 draft were defensive players
3 out of our first 4 picks in the 2020 draft were defensive players
Our first pick in the 2019 draft was a defensive player
Our first pick in the 2018 draft was a defensive player
Our first 3 picks in the 2017 draft were defensive players
In 2016 our 2nd pick was Jaylon Smith
In 2015 our 1st 2 picks were Byron Jones and Randy Gregory

Those are our last 7 drafts. Oh...we've addressed it....we are just not any good at it. That ultimately falls at the feet of the architect of the franchise.

You simply CANNOT miss as much as we do when you use premium picks on defense. A 1st round LBer should be a stud. You cannot afford to get 4th round production from a 1st round LBer. So the miss on Jaylon and LVE is HUGE. The miss on Taco Charlton (1st round pick) is HUGE. The miss on Trysten Hill (2nd round pick) is huge. The miss on Randy Gregory (2nd round pick) is huge. Most of these guys are gone or on the bench. NONE of them played/play any better than middle round draft picks. That is the problem!

I mean... Fantastic post.
You can't deny any of this factual breakdown so I guess it does boil down to picking bad players.

Round by round.
Player by player for the last 7 years.

The only caveat is last year's and this year's group are still in a yet to be determined performance level imo.

Great post.

It’s not that they haven’t gotten players. It’s that they aren’t getting quality.

they constantly draft defensive players. they just do not draft good ones because they seemingly have no idea how to scout defense. Or they have a problem as an organization in playing defense, which scheme to play and then which players to draft to play in the scheme.

They pretty much always miss on defense and always hit on offensive players.

I agree. There does seem to be a scouting disconnect either in assessing the actual talent level or matching skillset to scheme fit.
Too many misses.

And of course, never any high picks used on safeties or 1Ts has confused many for years.

They are either poor at drafting defense or developing the defensive players they do pick or both.

Bingo. That Clown left this team with nothing. Last year proved it. Belichek couldn’t have gotten that bunch to succeed

JJ is the GM, not Garrett so blame JJ for bad picks like Charlton over TJ Watt, Hill over Thronhill, and J. Smith over C.Jones or X. Howard.....and the list goes on and on. JJ has made piss poor picks and it has cost this team.

The defense was playing against the best QB in the league and arguably the best offense in the league. What’s wrong with you people? Is it this entitlement thing with you guys again? “I want it now, I want it now, sniff, sniff”. Give the team a chance.

Dude has been in the nfl for 7 years. It should have been before now. Now is starting to feel like too little too late.

I'm am sick of this team never addressing the defense. The d line is embarrassing and secondary is a joke. How can the gm the fake we have not see this?
they don't hate it....not including the last two years because they are still being evaluated, the prior 15 years we drafted 45 defensive players, vs. 54 offensive...not much of a difference, however, in those 45 only one was a player of note and that's Lawrence...everybody else sucked. in the same time period we had Dez, Dak, Pollard, Zeke, Martin, Smith, Collins, Schultz, fredrick, biadasz, Murray, on the offensive side. its not that we don't want to address it. its just we suck at defensive talent evaluation.

Always 2 steps behind is their preference.

Overreact and acquire a bunch of run stuffers in the offseason and then of course your only two pass rushers are lost at the start of the year.

You could see that coming a mile away if you've been paying attention the last 25 years.

Never LMAOI truly ignorant fan statememts keep roiling in they replaced HALF of this defense this last offseason and 70% of it over 2 years the entire draft went to defense FA almost all FA..seriously what the flip are you paying attention too??

its work in progress they are trying you cant just rebuild that side of the ball overnight they were better last week against the best team in the nfl but need time to gel..so get over the kneejerk overactive statements using those instant words like NEVER..

leave your emoins at the door because they are and have been retooling the defense sorry its not to your liking keyboard fan..

I don't think that's strictly accurate. They draft from the outside in. This FO loves WRs, OTs, DEs, CBs, etc. They do not like interior linemen (though with OG and OC that has changed a little), LBs, Ss, etc.

Micah was drafted on the principle of WHOOPS, as their targets were Horn and Surtain, both CBs and outside guys.

NOT TRUE MP was on their draft boards and all fans had him as a possible 1st rounder no doubt and while if one of those cbs were there sure we take him but Parsons as always ranked about even with the 2 cbs period end of story..not whoop's so ignorant to say that out loud..try again..

they not only traded down to get him they got that extra pick in the 3rd..and?? we did better IMO..

draft board was as such

1A. Suratin 1B Horn 1C Parsons they got their man regardless how it happened as it was coin flip , we needed a DB opposite of diggs more so of course they wanted one of those two but Parsons was NEVER an afterthought..

now we have Parsons Plus KJ and Wright as future starting cbs opposite of Diggs that win win oh win..not an oops

There is not a thing you have said that refutes my assertion. Not one. Parsons was at best third on their list. This front office loves the outside and neglects the inside, and that's why we are in the position we are in.
This team lucked into Parsons, much as it lucked into Dak.
