I’m in the minority here. I don’t see anyone they could bring in that knows the system better than Rush.....I truly think he could get us by for a couple games. Might even surprise and win one.
This team as a whole is totally different to me....so much more cohesiveness and attitude
I’m feeling like the team as a whole can pull Rush through some rough spots....we shall see.
I think Rush gonna start on Sunday

Puro Cowboys

Except Dalton

I've gone on a record before saying they should trade a 7th round pick or whatever low round pick it would take to bring Dalton in. He knows the system already, and he's clearly better than Rush. Yes, I said clearly.

If Dak s out for the year like last year, then the point is moot. But if you just need Dalton to start a game or two, instead of pick up the pieces for 2/3 of the season like last year, now we're talking.

I know many people here don't like Dalton because of what happened last year. But again, if you only need him in the pinch, say 1-2 games while Dak heals his calf, that's a totally different scenario.

And he wouldn't cost much.

And like Cooper Rush, Dalton can come right in and start today. He knows the system.

The only reason why he left this year is because he wanted a chance to start. It's not like the Cowboys didn't want him back, because they did. And guess what, Dalton is now no longer starting.

Bring him back already..

i don't know about ALWAYS.
but.
you don't know what you got...til you need it.

Hmm….you must be a little brother

My brother and I bet college/NFL out of the same bankroll (read: I make the picks in GA, he enters them in NJ, and we both kicked in the same amount when he opened the accounts on DK and FD). ‘We’ had GB and the money line last night. Once AZ crossed the 30 on that last drive, I had to listen to him yap on and on about not taking the points. And what did he say after the game? ‘It would have been less stressful if we had the points’. Doesn’t matter that I’m 60 and he’s 56, I wanted to thump him on the head exactly the same as I did when I was 12 and he was 8.

We’re both Cowboy fans, though, and we WILL go to a SB together if they ever make it back. I might have to sell a kidney, but whatever…..GO COWBOYS!!!

This is tired.

Without looking it up, name me the backup QB for the following teams:

  • TB Buccaneers
  • LA Rams
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Buffalo Bills
  • Cincinnatti Bengals
  • Baltimore Ravens

Then tell me with a straight face why all of these teams would expect to win MULTIPLE games with that backup.
I dont know why it needs to be turned into a memory game but I would take Chase Daniel, Blaine Gilbert, Colt McCoy, Mitchell Trubisky over Cooper Rush any day

That would be an interesting question.

How many teams won a Super Bowl when their quarterback was originally the backup.

There is the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl 5 when Johnny Unitas went down and they replaced him with Earl Morrall.

Speaking of Earl Morrall, who remembers that in the Dolphins perfect season in 1972 their starting QB, Bob Greise, went down with a season ending injury in game #5? He was replaced by Earl Morrall who led them the rest of the way to a total of 17 consecutive wins including the playoffs and Super Bowl 7..

I believe that Doug Williams was the Commander backup most of the season and then replaced Jay Shroeder for the playoffs including Super Bowl 22 which the Commanders won.

In 1990 Phil Simms of the Giants went down in game #14. Jeff Hostetler took over and started Super Bowl 25 in 1990. By the way, Jeff Hostetler has the distinction of being one of only two QB's never to throw a single pass in their first three seasons and still end up as a starter for a full season later. The other one? Tony Romo. Interesting that they had the same coach.

Kurt Warner wasn't the original starter before he and the Rams won Super Bowl 34.

Trent Dilfer and the 2000 Ravens is a different story. He started as the backup but the starter, Tony Banks, played poorly and so he was replaced by Dilfer.

Tom Brady was the backup when Bledsoe got hurt in 2001.

We all know about Nick Foles in 2018.

Did I miss any?

Anyway, we can see where the backup did indeed play a critical part in several championship seasons.

The Cowboys need to get serious about a backup. A veteran is out of teh question, they cannot afford a quality one. Best to draft one high next season.

Yep

Jameis is looking pretty good in New Orleans. There were some guys out there but we didn’t appear to even try to sign anyone.

It’s doesn’t have to be Dak or bust. Having a backup who can come in and win a few games is crucial Especially with a QB overcoming such a serious injury.

Winston is starting in NO. He wasn’t coming here to be a backup. He wants to play and get a huge contract.

The only thing I'd add Plastic, for a little color is the Colts defeated the Cowboys that year in SB 5

I would imagine if Dak suffered another serious injury they'd bring in a more capable back-up, after how the bums did last year.

Me too but it had to be something. Based on press conferences from Mac it sounds like he is extremely pleased that Rush knows the entire playbook. I'm sure Kellen had say as well.

Knowing the playbook is great, but can he excute it? From my ignorant viewpoint Gilbert did a better job there.

To quote Bill Parcells, "you just can't call 1-800-quarterback and get a quarterback."

Well if there's no 1-800- quarterback then there definitely isn't a 1-800-backup quarterback. I can't believe some fans are so out there, that they want all-pro's at every starting position and an all-pro backup QB.

We actually had a backup last year that kept us in division hunt losing out in final week.

I would have recommended pursuing someone of similar capabilities. Or using a draft pick.

all that does is give a worse draft pick. there is zero chance to win the superbowl or even a playoff game without dak, so there is no point having a good backup especially this season where the division is already ours....even if we had cooper rush for the rest of the season.

Rams didn't have a backup during their SB run. We have literally the most stack roster in football right now and you going complain about a backup QB? You realize our QB is pay 73 millions this year right?!? A 73 millions dollar QB should not be injure.
