I give up trying to understand what the nfl considers a catch anymore however I think 99% of the people watching could agree that was a catch
My youngest son who is not really a football fan for obvious reasons that can not be discussed here was like WTH?

Yep, he took 2 full steps and started to take a 3rd as he was tucking the ball under his arm and lost it.

FYI, we couldn't challenge it because NY called down to say they reviewed it and it wasn't a catch. Complete nonsense that they are randomly chiming in without any challenge and we aren't aware of it.

Well the thing is they have been doing that recently. Which I feel is a good thing…. However there is no freaking consistency to it at all.

the officiating makes games unwatchable.

You have video? "Starting" to take a 3rd step is not a catch. "Taking" a 3rd step is.

Please show me in the NFL Rules where the wrod "Starting" as you dramatically put in quotes to try and assert you authority over all matter of the rules is. Go ahead show me - show all of us.

This is the summary although I f you like I will happily produce the rule in its entirety for you. But guess what I read it and you'll have ans easy a time finding the difference between "Starting" and "Taking" a step as you do here.

Completing a Catch | NFL Football Operations

A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is inbounds:

a. secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

b. touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

c. after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, performs any act common to the game (e.g., tuck the ball away, extend it forward, take an additional step, turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

So please show me where in the NFL Rules there is differentiation between starting to take a step and taking a step.

We will never know because our coach didn't challenge it.

I'll defend Mike here. The call was changed by NY. Had Mike challenged, that goes to NY. NY isn't changing the call just because Mike challenges it. It shoulda stayed a fumble, but once NY got involved, that was the end of that. All Mike would accomplish is wasting a time out on that one.

We didn't know NY had stepped in that's what puzzled me as to why he didn't challenge. It's not like they say anything at the game as to why he didn't challenge. I didn't find out NY was involved till earlier. Thanks for the heads up and not being an arse hole abt it

Np. I know some had been wondering it during the game. I saw them call it a fumble, huddle, and change the call. That was when I realised NY jumped in, which was why I wasn't upset about Mike not challenging.

Gotcha and that makes perfect sense. I could see he was pissed talking to one of the refs but that was it

Oh and here's a clue as to whether they got it right or not.The NFL's youtube highlight package doesn't include that play at all.Skips right past it. Funny that. Same way there is no replay of the roughing the passer of Micah that never was roughing the passer and they do show the play just not the replay we saw on TV which clearly showed how bad a call that was. Funy that.

Yes but we're a garbage team. Lost three of the last four. Complete garbage.

Yeah, and I'd imagine Mike was pissed because he probably wanted to challenge it, but he was probably told the call came from NY, so it'd be a wasted challenge to try it. It was total bollocks the call change, but Mike didn't do anything wrong there.
