Speaking of what is said by the player
  1. Larry Allen was simply a freak of nature.

He was the anchor for the Cowboys line for 12 solid seasons. Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith attribute much of their success to their offensive line, specifically Larry Allen.

He was a man among boys.

Allen was simply a freak of nature

  2. Everybody knows about that offensive line so why are you trying to belittle that? Like I mentioned I have seen the Cowboys//Emmitt play. Trust me that offensive line was HUGE in the success of Emmitt Smith.
Emmitt ws great but when ya have 4000 carries which is far more than anyone else you will have more yards. I showed you his last nine seasons where he never averaged more than 4,1 a season. Kinda funny you saying.....Emmitt is better than all those he has more yards than, ah...but can't say that about Frank Gore,,,,,,huh???

Look man I have checked out about a dozen of those BEST ALL TIME RB's bits, nobody has Emmitt at number one. His highest,,,,4. He is always behind Barry, Payton and Jim Brown, always and he should be. Brown played in 12 game seasons, and only nine years, think if he'd played in 16 game seasons for 12 years. What if Barry had played longer?

Emmitt is among the great ones a top 10 cat, but get real with him being the best ever, that simply isn't reality and I will stack my NFL knowledge up against anyone, seen um all since 1957.

Top 10

1.Jim Brown
2.Walter Payton
3.Barry Sanders
4.Eric Dickerson
5.O.J.Simpson
6.LT
7.Emmitt Smith
8.Adrian Peterson
9.Marshall Faulk
10.Earl Campbell

A fine list.. and I would probably not bump anybody off it.. I would just rank them differently.. It's a fun discussion and one I appreciate because we've had it without belittling one another or acting like 15 year olds.. Just a good ole fashioned sports argument.. as it should be.. But I am not "belittling" Emmitt's lines.. I am simply stating that two dozen other backs ran behind those lines during his career and none put up the kind of numbers Emmitt did. Also two dozen different guys comprised those lines during his career (all 20 something of them were all pros?) and only Father Time slowed down Emmitt's production.. And we know Father Time gets everybody.. But it took Father Time longer to get Emmitt than any of the other backs on the list. You keep poo pooing his 4000 carries like it's something "any old back" could have done.. Yet there is exactly one member of the 4000 carry club.. And his name is Emmitt Smith. Not the biggest.. not the fastest, not the strongest.. not the most elusive.. but in my humble opinion .. simply the best. If I have one game to win against the forces of darkness with the fate of the universe in the balance.. He's the guy I want on my team.. Because I can ask him to do anything ... run inside, run outside, runs screens, catch it downfield, block, short yardage.. draw plays.. toss plays.. traps. Left side, right side. You name it, Emmitt could do it.. Sure you can name a half dozen guys better at any one or two aspects of the game than he was.. But you can't name any guys better at all of them.. Payton and LT are the only ones even on his level.

What if Brown and Sanders had played longer? What if works both ways.. What if they blew out a knee in year 10 or 11? Like OJ did.. If either of them had Emmitt's desire they both would have kept playing.. They didn't.. so I say again, they don't get extra points from me for quitting..

You're my buddy my friend love your stuff, love the passion and the knowledge, ya know your stuff, I like that.

Ok...

So give me your top 10, yep, curious, and yes Emmitt was better than Blair Thoms etc, ha!

When it comes to being a football warrior/stud, Emmitt gets major props, to play that long at the level he did was very impressive. Would never ignore that. But......he just wasn't the most talented, have seen others with more talent. He wasn't close to being the ....runner....O,J.Simpson was, not close, same with Dickerson, and we can't....well Emmitt could block, find a hole, bang for 3, catch a football. Ok, cool, but when it comes to running with a football he was Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers, Bo Jackson etc.

You just like the guy I like an old cat named Willie Galimore, my first NFL hero. But ya gotta keep it real, you aren't doing that, you are....I like Emmitt he's the best. No he wasn't.

I have never once said Emmitt was the most talented.. He wasn't.. not even close. Herschel and Bo were probably the most talented from a physical gifts standpoint.. Monster size, ridiculous speed, prodigious power, good hands.. great balance.. If I'm choosing sides on the basis of physical traits, those two both go higher in the draft than pretty much any of the rest. Brown was clearly the most dominant relative to his peers .. But he played in an era when a lot of the league was slow white dudes who were smaller than he was. He was SUPPOSED to dominate.

Funny you mention Willie Gallimore.. You may or may not know that his son, ironically also named Ronnie, was an Olympic level gymnast. He came to my high school to do an exhibition when he was trying to qualify for the '76 Olympic team or maybe it was after.. I forget. Basically trying to drum up interest in gymnastics in the black community. Unfortunately he was caught up in the recent USA gymnastics sexual abuse scandal, but I watched him do his thing when I was 15 years old and was amazed by it.

See, you are one of the few here who can educate me, knew nothing about Ronnie Galimore, cool~~~

Willie played along side stud fullback Rick Casares, he had a 1000 season, Willie never did due to lack of carries, they shared carries. Willie had a lot to do with Bob Hayes*** ending up at Florida A&M, Willie's school.

Story goes him and fellow Bear Bo Farrington were speeding to a tv to watch Hayes in that Olympic 100m, hit by a train, both killed. Not sure if the story is true, yep, their death very true and a bummer. Do need to check all that out.

So give me your top 10

** Hayes had no intentions of running track at FAMU, but the track coach kept bugging him so....

My top 10? With a gun to my head I'd have to go

Emmitt
Sweetness
Tomlinson..

These are my top 3 because they could do it all.. They had no holes in their respective games to speak of and also shared a very high football IQ as well. They all did everything and did it all well.. So Emmitt gets the nod by virtue of having done it all for longer and having accumulated more of everything.

My next four would be

Brown
Sanders
Simpson
Dickerson

These are guys who were incredible as runners.. probably superior just as runners to either of the top three.. but not quite as versatile. OJ was decent as a receiver but never really great at it. Dickerson couldn't catch at all and Barry and Brown were simply almost never asked to. None of these four would block your or me if we came on a blitz though.. And if you could stack the line and stop them (I know easier said than done) they had a hard time contributing in other areas of the game.

Then I'd go with:

Faulk
Peterson
Big Earl..

I could certainly be talked into any order for these three but again Faulk gets the nod because of his ability to do many things very well. If he had run with more power I might have him higher but he spent most of his career as a scatback even though he wasn't really that small. I got to see AP in person against the Cowboys a couple of times and could see he is another one who was always no better than 50/50 to catch the ball and showed little interest in blocking so they were always subbing for him in passing situations. Big Earl was just raw power personified. But his was also a fairly one-dimensional game.. But what a dimension!!!

You just copied me,...ha!!!! That was very cool breaking it all down there, liked that.

Ok going to move on, leave it at you just like Emmitt and would take him in a row boat equipped with just a sling shot vs a battleship. When God looked to make His perfect running back,....Emmitt Smith....is who He came up with.

Taylor might become the best Colt RB in history . That’s a nice consolation to Emmitts accomplished football career but it is what it is. Someday Taylor will be mentioned in the same sentence as Tom Matte in Colt history . That’s something anyway in a small Midwest Market like Indy

Well let's see...

Lenny Moore Hall of Fame
Eric Dickerson Hall of Fame
Marshall Faulk Hall of Fame
Edgerrin James Hall of Fame
Joe Perry Hall of Fame
Frank Gore Hall of Fame to be

The Colts have had more stud RB's than we have had.

Tom Matte hahaha!!!! Hell, why not Jerry Hill?

Add...

Lydell Mitchell ever hear of him?
Ricky Williams new to you?

The roots to the tree, the great Buddy Young

Dude, JT was better in HS, better at the NCAA level, and his first two NFL seasons are better. What about this aren't you getting? Will he play 34 years, probably not.

Show me anything about middle school,, Pop Warner, you ok?

Work with me here slugger

Taylor was the more impressive NCAA RB, the numbers prove that, his first two NFL seasons superior to what Emmitt did in his, once again the numbers prove that. So when comparing NCAA/NFL beginning it's all JT, no debate at all, none.

Now will JT win SB's, put up big numbers for a decade or so, we don't know that, all we do know is at the same stage of their careers JT was better.

Ah, actually forget winning SB that has nothing to do wit this actually. And if JT has over 4000 carries he will have more yards.

that’s just it my brotha JT will not have those carries he will not have the ALL TIME Rushing title he won’t have the SB rings and the warm memories of Erin Andrews crowning you as champ on Dancing with the Stars ….everything EM touched turned to Gold. When the triplets were dominating Jerry should have come out with Gold uniforms that’s how running between the tackles moved the chains ….Just ask Marv Levy or Buddy Ryan ….

Emmitt averaged 4.2 a carry, the reason he has all those yards is the carries he had. Yes when it comes to longevity Emmitt is the king. Any of the top 10 have more yards if they carry the ball 4000 times,

Drop Championships, that is a team thing,

ONE MORE TIME

How about all those Colts RB;s , hahahaha!!!! Tom Matte???/

You never heard of Tom Matte ? I thought you were old school football fan. Tom Matte played on WINNING Colt clubs carried the rock . Maybe JT can watch some Colt film from when they were winners.

Like you said it’s a “ team sport “ . JT busting a long one on pop Warner or 6th grade class does that team today not one bit of good but you keep throwing out all these stats like he sure ran over the “ Dolphins “ oh wow.

Nobody is talking 6th grade but you my man, the point is JT has out played Emmitt a every level just like he is doing right now.

Emmitt averaged 3.9 as a rookie, 3.9, JT....5.0.

History lesson . Baltimore Colts vs Cleveland Browns 1968 NFL championship game in Cleveland before the game Ohio native Tom Matte told his teammates “ I’m going home you SOB better not embarrass me “ and every time Tom Matte scored in a 34-0 whipping of the Browns he shook hands with fans in the stands. Probably some you tube video of this piece of Colt history , when they were winners . It’s a “ team sport bro “ ….

Blue hair the Colts wore blue probably had some blue haired dudes on those teams like Mike Curtis who could bust up a play make things uncomfortable for the offense.

Remember Doc Ellis ? Of course you don’t . He bragged of throwing a no hitter while tripping on acid with the Pittsburgh Pirates . So back in the day Blue hair was like John Smith ok next chapter .
