The first game I can remember watching has a kid. 1992 we marched in to Candlestick Park on that wet sloppy field and punched the big bad 49ers in the mouth. Even though Vegas has us winning a close one this has the same feel to it. I can not wait to watch this one with my family! Go Cowboys

I was a 19 year old in Air Force basic training during the 1975 playoffs.

We lived in an open bay of fifty trainees, mostly from New York and California, but some from Minnesota, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. Despite basic training being in San Antonio, there were only two Texans, me and another.

On this particular Sunday, about 20 of us where watching the Cowboys-Vikings playoff game in our small day room. With less than a minute in the game, the Vikings are winning 14-10 and a large combination of New Yorker and Minnesotans are letting the two of us really have it. They were calling us "Cow Girl" fans, telling us how much our team sucked, questioning Staubach's sexual orientation, calling Landry a loser, you have it.

I was miserable as usual when it looks like the Cowboys may lose but I'm listening to all this when suddenly Staubach heaves a long ball to Drew Pearson, who catches it, sidesteps a defender, and reaches the endzone for a TD.......Hail Mary!

For five full seconds there was absolute silence. You could hear a pin drop. Suddenly, my fellow Texan yells out, "YES!" Then I begin to yell, "COWBOYS!"

I've never seen a room of 20 guys empty quicker as me and my fellow Texan are blasting them all for doubting the Cowboys. The wave of mumbling and low volume charges of "lucky" and "cheated" and "refs" were music to my ears..

I remember in 93 or 94 there was a Dal/SF regular season game, I was watching at a sports bar in NJ with my girlfriend. The bar was split with SF and Dal fans as if it was a playoff game. SF won that game and some girl in a Steve Young Jersey gets up and makes a comment about which team was "taking it up the ### today" needless to say a full on bar room brawl broke out. I probably could have broken it up, but I saw the Dal fans were winning, and I was not feeling very peaceful, so I just took my girlfriend and left while laughing. If that rivalry caused that much passion in Jersey, I can only imagine in SF or Dallas. It was like week 8 and we all knew the game was basically for home field advantage in the playoffs.

Maybe it was the 1985 campaign. Pre-season against the Bears at Texas Stadium.

There was a brawl between the teams. From the Chicago Tribune:

Subplot III--The game probably won`t have as many fights as the preseason meeting won by Dallas 15-13. In one fight, Cowboy defensive tackle Randy White hit Bears` guard Mark Bortz on the head with tackle Keith Van Horne`s helmet. ''There`s not going to be any place in this game for any stupid fights,'' said tackle Jim Covert. ''There might have been some bad blood. But we`re not looking for that other stuff. It`s stupid anyway. All you do is pull and swing a little, and when it`s over, you`re out of breath.''

I attended that game for some reason. People didn't mess with White after that. I think he wasn't even tossed out of the game.

Brown did not score on either of those picks, I'm afraid.

He returned it to the six...that is true.

My reference:

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Larry Brown has two interceptions including one returned for a touchdown in a 27-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.

Deion told him that with one more interception Brown could then run for Mayor.

Lets make some more history Sunday CC!!!!!
Some backdrop:

Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

After taking the Green Bay Packers to the postseason eight straight years and nine of his first 11 before being fired in 2018, he believes it’s his rightful domain.

McCarthy says the team is more than ready for Sunday’s wild card game against the San Francisco 49ers after a record-breaking 2021 in which they scored more points than any club in franchise history and led the NFL in turnovers in a season in which they finished 12-5 and won the NFC East.

Wow! Thanks for the dance down memory lane. So many moments.

One that stands out - and it wasn't even a game - the Tom Landry Amex commercial. Not sure why, but that one sticks with me to this day and still makes me smile.

Both Tom Landry and Roger Staubach shared pride, integrity, and were fully respectable...:starspin::)

The 1977 Cowboys were just a complete bad *** team...The Defense in that Superbowl was total demolition and domination.

If there is one fantasy match up that i wish we could make happen in my opinion would be the 77 Cowboys vs 85 Bears.

That would of been fun.
My vote for the best Cowboys team ever

This game is bringing back many memories...I'm sure many of us have stories about the old days....it would be cool if we were allowed to share some to get the juices flowing... we could share stories about back in the day! Salud! Go Frikkin Cowboys!
1991 cowboys coming off 7 and 9 season, nobody expecting much. I’m in military and now down in NC. NO internet to easily get tickets back then. My father in law is from jersey and tries to get me tickets for cowboys giants. Nocan do, so he gets me week 15 against philly. He gets these in like week 3 so nobody is expecting this game to be a big deal. It turns out the winner of this game wins the east. Philly has Randall Cunningham and the gangrene defense.
My wife’s uncle is supposed to go to game with me...uh oh, he forgets it is his new sons first birthday so I’m on my own.
I get a four day pass from my military boss and make the ten hour drive to jersey. Sunday morning I drive to philly and park in street near the old veterans stadium. I park and get out of car and immediately a guy comments about parking near a cowboys fan.he is cool and takes me to his Tao
Gate, feeds me and gives. Me some beers. He walks me in stadium and shows me my seats. I’m sitting by myself wearing cowboys gear in philly.
Late in game kelvin Martin returns a punt, I think 83 yards for a tad, we win, win the east, win our first playoff game and lose following week.

That was my first cowboys game ever, and in reality, that was the game that started our mini dynasty.

Here I am now on a plane heading to Dallas for this game 33 years later with a few tears in my eyes as I tell this story as my father in-law, who was the best and always supported me as an 18 year old that married his daughter has since passed away three years ago. I have four daughters and know there is now way I’d have been as supportive to any 18year old that married one of my daughters.
The cowboys are more than just a football team to many of us.

67’ Ice bowl was a kick to the gut I’ll never forget....
The championship game the year before was just as bad. We had a a 1st and goal at the 2 yard line and didn’t punch it in. Meredith wound up throwing an interception in the end zone to end it. We should have won the first Super Bowl ever played.

I remember that game , too.
It is an iconic game, where "Hail Mary" pass was born.
There would be no opportunity for a Hail Mary under today’s rules. That last drive was sustained by a 4th down pass ruled a completion even though the receiver (Drew if I remember correctly) didn’t get big feet in. Heck, I’m not sure he got either foot in. But it was ruled a completion because, at that time, they could rule the receiver would’ve come down inbounds had the defender not pushed him out.

Along those lines, Butch Johnson’s TD catch in the ‘77 SB wouldn’t be a catch today.

Is there any fandom, including Green Bay, that has more defined memories than the Dallas Cowboys? Not content with just winning games, they had to propel me from the couch with come from behind game clenchers that earned him the title of "Captain Comeback". Roger had this knack for the dramatic that I have never seen in any other QB. I do not think any QB in the history of the NFL was better at making his own players believe. He seldom lost a game; he just ran out of time.

But no memory can match the Ice Bowl for me. I was still a spilt fan between the Cards and Cowboys up until that day as I watched a team that most said couldn't stay with the Packers in what was the most brutal weather game played to that date and gave birth to the "frozen tundra".

There is something comforting and special when your team becomes your team in a loss. You become less demanding of a victory and appreciate the all-out effort more. How they play the game matters.
