These playoffs had the worst coaching decision ever? Maybe but not our own

Great point @Risen Star .

A squib kick or even a kick with hang time landing inbounds at the 10ish yard line would have been enough to run the clock down to allow 1-2 plays max.

Goes to show how even good teams can screw themselves over with minor blunders. I’m saying minor because - come on - it was THIRTEEN seconds. All the Bills had to do was cause at least ONE incomplete pass.

I’m also thinking: couldn’t the Bills pass defenders just hold the receivers at the line of scrimmage after the ball is snapped? Yeah, it’s a penalty but it runs out the clock.

With 13 seconds left in the game your defense should be able to keep them from getting into FG range. If you allow then to get that much yardage in 13 seconds and still have time to kick a FG then you got bigger problems.

After a week of the sports world mocking Mike McCarthy and his weight problem over a QB draw that should have accomplished it's goal of leaving time on the clock for one prayer to the end zone at the 25 with a bad QB, I fail to see this same level of scorn for a head coach who truly eliminated his own team yesterday.

How do the Buffalo Bills not squib kick after going up by 3 with 13 seconds to play? How does the alleged top tier head coach Sean McDermott not tell his ST Coach that's what's happening? It would have at the very least taken enough time off the clock to prevent a 3rd play for the Chiefs and very well might have done more than that.

Yes the defense should hold regardless but this was an egregious error that needlessly gave the Chiefs an opportunity to win the game.

Where's the outrage? Where's the mockery? Cmon, he could be thinner.

Notice the difference in how these two are treated. Zero respect for our own and he's accomplished more than McDermott ever has.

So when they talk about the 2021 season playoffs and the worst call they've ever seen from a head coach I won't be thinking some QB draw that really didn't decide the game since the QB wasn't making that throw if he had another play. I'll be thinking about those Buffalo Bills handing the Chiefs a chance when it was completely unnecessary and avoidable.

You had me until your last sentence. For life is a tad bit much.

There are head scratching decisions by head coaches almost every game. Heck, even SF in our game had what I thought a bonehead decision - the all out attempt to punt block that resulted in a toughing the kicker. SF was comfortably ahead, had us kicking from well into our territory so they would be getting the ball in good field position, and we had shown no real ability offensively.

Sure, they block the punt and score like the did in GB and the game is likely over. Their Operation Market Garden. But they were in a different position in the GB game. It was just a very bad risk/reward. The only justification is that Dallas wasn’t doing anything offensively so even with the penalty and new life, you believe it won’t matter. But momentum is a powerful thing and it dang near came back to back to bite them in the pisteriir.

Good idea. Hack-a-Shaq. And it only gives up 5 yards.

Yeah I'll take my chances with their return game over Patrick Mahomes and that offense.

If they squib kick they win the game.
Not really. I'm certain that Andy Reid, being an intelligent coach, would have a player pick up the ball and down it immediately. Instead of the 25yard line they probably get it at the 30-40 yard line. The issue isn't the kick, but rather the piss-poor defense played by Buffalo at the end of regulation.

Definitely a dumb move in an otherwise perfectly coached and executed gameplan. I think the heat is more on MM because we looked completely handicapped on offense all game and lack any kind of discipline. When you bumble your way through a game and end up having a call like that to end the game, you're going to get some arrows.

Moore's quarterback draw was the best call in the playoffs. Absolutely BRILLIANT ----> runs

Yeah and like you said, just hold every receiver, tackle them if you have to! - 5 yards and 7 seconds off the clock - who cares

Was just gonna say....I saw quite a bit of questionable decisions.

Great football weekend though....considering how depressed I was watching it.....it really was some good football and I'm glad I watched instead of ignoring it the way I usually do after the annual Jerry ego show letdown.
I enjoyed watching all the games. My expectations of the Cowboys were low so I was able to watch and enjoy once they were gone. My son could not - that is the way I used to be. I still have a hard time watching more football on a weekend the Cowboys lose but I am over it.

Yep. And they weren’t alone. Tampa was right there with them.

Yeah I tried many times to shake myself loose of Jerry and his ego show.

It didn't take.

I really hate that man with a very serious passion.

Yeah I'm uncomfortable sharing you w them but it is what it is lol.

I know youre from there or used to live there or something.

You probably never have to worry about a Cowboys/Bengals Super Bowl lol.

What would be amazing is if it's SF/Cin that would have been their opponent all three times they made it. Amazing coincidence.

Not sure they have enough with the momentum KC has but they remind me of the 91 Cowboys quite a bit. Next year they kick in the door.

Would have had a Cowboys Bengals SB if not for that damn catch.

I thought about the squib kick too but what happens if it goes off his bad and chili dips it out of bounds? I think they felt the safer route was kicking out of the back of endzone. Who thinks that 13 seconds is enough to get into field goal range? If anything, he needed to understand who gassed that D was and call plays that lent to the strength of D. I am not sure that the ultra prevent defense was the way to go. I am biased because I hate prevent defense anyway.

Still you have to give credit to Josh and Mahomes. Even though both D's had let downs, those two QB's took advantage of what was in front of them.

squib kick has the risk of going out of bounds as well as if its fielded early will have a shorter field for mahomes ( in the end it didnt matter )

But a straighter kick short of end zone would have been better, it would have to be fielded and run back which would have given time for only one play.

Just a high, short, kick forces the Chiefs to fair catch it deep or try to run it a take seconds off either way it was a win. kicking it into the endzone was a coaching failure.

I work with a Bills fan and there's definitely outrage and mockery coming from him. With Dallas it's 10 fold because slamming the Cowboys for yet another playoff or entire season flop is the popular thing to do in the media. Heck guys like Shanon Sharp and Stephen A are living off of it.
