Opinion: Dak ad libed that last play and could have run out of bounds

With 14 seconds left and the ball at the 49ers 40 yard line, that was enough time to attempt 2 Hail Mary's. That would have been the smarter thing to do: gives you 2 shots to come down with a game-winning TD pass in the endzone.

This is by far the best idea. Take 2 shots from the 40 but the coaching staff didn't believe Dak had the Arms strength to pull it off. No other reason why you wouldn't try it unless that was the case.

I think Romo called it right in real-time -- Dak needed to hand the ball to the ref instead of trying to snap it. The ref had to bump Dak and the OL out of the way and place the ball -- that took 2 seconds.

Total lack of football IQ. Dak shoulda left a gap for the ref to go by instead of lining up like a dummy.

The easy play was what I originally said...they were giving us the short outs, just take 1 or 2 and get the same accompllish without Dak having to run. Yet we are still talking about this

It was not a terrible call it was just executed improperly.

If you want to talk about dumb plays then by far the dumbest play of the game was the Randy Gregory two-arm takedown holding penalty the previous drive on 2 and 9 with 1:38 left on the clock. If he doesn't take down the O-lineman the Cowboys get the ball back with about 1:30 left on the clock. Instead, that gave the 49ers a first down and we get the ball back with :32.

Gregory wasn't even trying to make a play. I can't figure out why in the world he just tackled the guy away from the ball especially in that situation.

That's the definition of football dumb!

here is actual play after TO

Doesn't matter. the team was so inferior to SF . Dak is clueless in clutch play time. MM is clueless in game and clock managment. Need a new regime starting with the coach.

There are (5) 49er defenders downfield out of the picture. No way he scores.

Warner would have tackled him if he tried to run out of bounds.

It was a dumb play call but he was supposed to slide after 10 yards, not 15.
This.
Go down after 10 yards.

Its comical anyway. All this was for was to get us 10 yards closer for a Hail Mary.
Some fans are forgetting this was not for a FG.
Dallas dominated by the 49ers
End of story

Looked like Wilson was coming back for a pass to him. Maybe was going to be and let him run it down and lateral it. Or let him get out of bounds..

here is actual play after TO
last-play-wc-1.jpg

now to me it looks like everyone thinks this is a pass play, and that dak just decided to run
it wasnt a called play, it may have been an option, but no one knew he was going to run it.
last-play-wc-2.jpg

same thing here they are all turned around expecting a pass and it is only explanation for what pollard does.
But him and noah should have ad libbed and blocked those 2 on outside and maybe dak takes it to sideline, otherwise run down field and block someone !
heck who knows, with some blocking by the cowboys who just did nothing, maybe dak goes to endzone.
last-play-wc-3.jpg

ok here what is pollard doing?? what is noah doing?? LOL block those 2 guys !!!!!!!!! what is shulzt doing down lower, his day off? lol this is
pitiful. also note that martin is holding on the guy in middle where 3 guys are blocking 1, and he almost gets dak, should have been a holding call there.
last-play-wc-4.jpg

here below is where dak had the guy turned, now cut back outside to sideline!
you can see martin holding 91 arm. pollard still in a daze doing nothing, and noah is I dont know wanting to block the guys coming up from
way down field?? how dumb are these guys, and does it look like they practiced this play?

last-play-wc-5.jpg

here pollard and noah still doing nothing lol and dak commits to going inside.shultz just watching
last-play-wc-6.jpg

All I see here is a lackadaisical effort,by the receivers and pollard, and poor planning and execution of this play. he could have got out of bounds easily, or possibly go all the way.
this umbrella isnt geared to stop a run play with good blocking.

I just keep looking at the first pic snd seeing Noah Brown uncovered with a ton of space. Would he have gotten down and out of bounds? I know they are on the boundary but there is no one near him bottom right. There is the 3rd defender sideline deeper so probably same issues. Just thinking out loud

2. We throw 2 hail marys and hope for the best.

Throws give you the opportunity to complete the pass OR draw PI. I haven't seen anyone talk about the penalty aspect.

3rd option would be to run a play down the middle of the field with a convoy like KC ran against us a few years back. At some point it may turn into hot potato but at least you get a play off & give your playmakers a chance or maybe the defense gets stressed & makes a mistake.

Anything is better than the refs just waving their arms that the game is over.

It doesn't matter anymore. He and the rest of the Penalty Posse couldn't get it done. They didn't just lose the game on that horrible play.
