Cavanaugh was losing his mind on the air earlier over these stats.

So not only are we running Zeke up the middle into a pile of men every running play, but we are also getting the worst production out of RBs when we throw them the ball as well?

Yikes, Kellen (and Philbin).
But Stephen thinks the world of him. Does he even watch any tapes/games?! Kellen is toxic to our run game among other issues.

Sure he watches.. but that doesn't mean he has a clue what the hell is going on. Not everybody who is in a high ranking position in sports knows that sport inside and out. Some of them are there because daddy put them there. I aint namin no names though.

I don't think anyone is saying that. Of course the QB has responsibility. Every player has a piece in a play's success or failure.

Ken literally blamed Zeke being too slow for the reason he couldn't catch the pass. Said multiple times Pollard would have caught it.

Wait are you talking about the play where Dak has to step up and has three dudes converging on him as he unloads it to Zeke as "no pressure?" Come on man. Fine if you want to consider it a poor throw.. But I think the three red jerseys closing in as he lets go of the ball probably had something to do with it.

If you want to say those players affected the pass, that's your prerogative. The ball was gone before they got to him.

There's a reason they call it a pass "rush" and not a pass "take your time."

At least you're looking for a reason to justify the bad pass, meaning you acknowledge it was bad. I guess that's better than saying a different target would've caught it.

Day late and a dollar short, like why did we even bother signing Ito Smith back at week 9, and not even taking a peek?
Like having a worthy Clement not even given an opportunity to display beyond STs duty, when he displays in limited looks ability?
The functional elements missing really shows when the back should quickly fill where a blitz is coming from and be a quick and open catch that breaks the back of intense quarterback heat....or the opponent has to start paying heavily for sending extra players all the time. San Francisco types of executions, maybe.

Elliott is a lousy receiver now, and it mixes in with his reduced production running the ball. High pay/low play. Pollard is already a back breaker for linebackers...

I didn’t know it was that bad, but we can’t run a screen to save our lives and haven’t been able to in forever

Disagree.

I cringe at other qbs throwing to rbs, not generally dak.
Well the numbers don't agree. Unless you think Zeke and Pollard are worse than most 3rd string RBs out there. Daks throws are perfect and in stride/on time. Our RBs just suck, right?

I have been saying this for a while now that throwing the ball to Zeke is historically bad offense. Zeke is a tub of lard.

Could be scheme. And player usage. I certainly don't think they're getting all they can out of Pollard in the passing game. Our fastest offensive player on the field (I think Cooper has slowed), yet can you even remember us trying to get him matched up against a LB and sending him deep?

But one thing I've been saying for years now: Dak throws a crappy short ball. Just poor placement. Before the ankle injury, that was one of the main things I had hoped he would improve in the offseason. Maybe this year.

I like Dak. He improves. But in his short ball placement to RBs, he *needs* improvement.

Zeke is a north-south runner, and we throw him passes out wide where he either has a standing start, or he is moving laterally. And Dak has bad ball placement, and doesn't hit him in stride.

Just a bad combination all the way around.

The screen was fully functional under Tom Landry.

Zeke literally had two screens that he took over 70 yards in his first two seasons. And he scored easily on one in the 2020 opener against the Rams. Something has happened to the screen over the last three seasons that it has lost a lot of its effectiveness... I don't know who gets the blame.. Maybe it's as simple as it used to be so lethal teams now scout the hell out of it and we can't catch anybody off guard with it anymore.

Who was throwing Zeke the ball on those 80 yard TDs early on in his career? Frankly I think people are looking in 100% the wrong place for who to blame that our screens don't work anymore. I think maybe our receivers don't block downfield and our linemen don't get out in front and block anybody. That's where I would start assessing blame. Obviously not all Dak's throws are perfect.. but is anybody here going to deny that we saw several dozen drops by various receivers when the ball hit them in the bread basket? It's a team game.. This team would do well to quit trying to blame this guy or that guy and work on fixing all the aspects of the team that need fixing.

We need another Preston Pearson, who averaged over 13 yards a catch coming oit of the vckfiled in '75 and '76 and over 12 yards a catch for his remaining Cowboy years. Lance Dunbar had blazing speed, but could not stay injury fee.

Dak needs to work more with Pollard as a receiver, as he has breakaway speed. We need more plays to him.
