Schulz is average as a receiver and below average as a blocker

I want an upgrade

I’ll take Rudolph and a draft pick in rd 3-4 over paying Schulz 12 million for 3-4 years and be stuck with him
808 yards, 8 TD's and a 75% catch rate is not average. Certainly he isn't elite, but he had the 4th most TD's and 6th most yardage in the NFL among TE's in 2021.

As for blocking, granted that is not a strength, but I don't understand why the team can't find a much cheaper backup that is a blocker. Lots of teams have TEs that are more receiver than blocker, and the Cowboys run a lot of 2 TE sets anyway, so there are ways to deal with this.

Ultimately, I agree that if the price tag is too high we should consider moving on, but to just say we should dump Schultz before knowing what kind of deal is possible makes no sense.

Not particularly strong? He flat sucks at run blocking. My eyes tell me he is one of the worst in the league at it and it definitely had a negative impact on the run game.
Again, why not find a strong run blocking TE as a compliment. That isn't an unusual idea. The Cowboys, for whatever reason, have seemed to run from that ever since Hanna retired.

strange thing is he was more noted as a blocking TE at Stanford and not much in terms of receiving.

Will be 33, been injured the previous few seasons, hasn't went over 400 yards in the previous three seasons. He is on their radar for sure

Jerry and Stephen will open the checkbook, high five and dance about signing him. Why pay Schultz $12 when you can get Rudolph!

He was a sold player 5 years or so ago
But fans recognize the name so they want him even if his better days were years ago

Schultz is a Y-tight end with the ability as a run blocker to help bolster a team's rushing attack very quickly. While his frame could still use more mass, he plays with good technique and play strength at the point of attack and shows an ability to impose his will upon edge defenders if they half-step into the rep. Schultz is a capable and reliable target underneath, but his living will depend on how he impacts the running game. Schultz's limited catch production could drop him a round, but he should be a solid, early starter.

I'd rather go after OJ Howard if he's cheap. More athletic and younger. And if it doesn't work out you've got Jarwin and McKeon and MAYBE Simi Fehoko

I agree, I do think he can continue to develop but it may not be here. It is the one weakness at this level yet was a strong suite in college. Normally does not work that way

OJ Howard is actually older than Schultz. Not sure he is as reliable a receiver either. He certainly hasn't lived up to his expectations coming out of college.

Falcons already have a TE named Kyle = Pitts, who just completed a fine rookie season - PFWA All-Rookie Team; Pro Bowl selection - 68 receptions for 1,026 yards (but only1 TD).
And he is young (will turn 22 y.o. one month into next season).
Atlanta also has a 26yo TE they're developing - Parker Hesse.
Falcons have too many holes to waste a roster spot on an aging and declining player, AND at a position that they will be seeking a younger and less expensive backup in the draft.
Pitts is going to be a Roddy White player so him being a te will not happen.

What Atlanta can sell is that they brought Patterson in on a one year deal and it helped his career. Can do the same for him.

Sign him ASAP and move on from Schulz

Go check out his numbers he’s a huge drop off from Dalton Schultz as a receiver. He may be a better blocker but we’re going to take a big hit in the passing game with him.

Why? Their careers are going different directions. Schultz is getting better and Rudolph is declining.

There’s fans on this board that will take any player if they’re a bargain. They could care less if they’re a declining player. Rudolph is a huge downgrade over Dalton Schultz who’s been improving the past two seasons.
