Are the details of that restructure out? How would that change these numbers? The way I understand it cap number for each year is if he's on the team and dead money is if he isn't.

  • 2021 – Cap number: $17.2 million; Dead money: $95.0 million
  • 2022 – Cap number: $34.5 million; Dead money: $77.8 million
  • 2023 – Cap number: $45.5 million; Dead money: $43.4 million
  • 2024 – Cap number: $48.5 million; Dead money: $28.9 million
  • 2025 – (Contract voids) Cap number: $14.5 million

You're behind. 2022 is now 19.730 after the restructure.
That makes 2023 a 49.130M cap hit with a 58.070M dead cap.
2024 is a 52M cap hit with a 39M dead cap.

So 2023 will probably be restructured as well. Unless they don't want to keep Dak. In that case they'd have to eat the 50M cap hit, and then a 39M dead cap in 2024. None of it is good.

So it sounds like if they wanted they could cut him in 2024 and save $13 million in cap space.

Yes. Dallas would have a 39m dead cap if cut in 2024.

The problem is Dallas would have to know they were cutting him before the 2023 season. You understand why, right?

There is 0 chance Dak plays out the 2023 season at a 50M cap hit. Zero chance. Unless they're looking to cut him before the season. Otherwise they'll restructure that year too.

We aren't talking about Super Bowls. Dak is 1 and 3 in playoff games. He comes up small in big games. His QBR against the 49rs was 27. His QBR against the Chiefs was 9.

How many penalties did we have in those games. How many times did Dak have to face 2nd and 20 or 3rd and 15 due to holding, false starts, or illegal formation penalties??? Im not saying thats the case all the time because Dak has played some bad games, but how many games did we have 3 & outs putting Dak behind the 8 ball in the first quarter???

Its hard to get in rhythm when you lead the league in penalties. With that said, Dak has to play much better this year. He has to play on the level he was playing BEFORE he got hurt.

QBR factors out penalties unless they were induced by the QB. If he is the reason for the penalty than it lowers his QBR. It even gives him a discount against good defenses and third and long situations.

Do you think? Burrow got sacked 8 times in one game and they still won it.

I think they're going to know exactly what they have this upcoming season. Someone mentioned that the plan is to give him what he needs this offseason and hope he bounces back.

LOL bounces back from what? What are you guys watching? Dak has been inconsistent consistently since 2019. Nothing has changed. Just go back and look at the games. Beat the crap out of bad teams, did squat against the good teams. I probably should say the Cowboys, not Dak. It's not all on him.

Has anyone been watching? 2021 is a repeat of 2019. Similar stuff happened in 2020 but our D was so bad that it gets overlooked.

In case you forgot. In 2019, 10 points against the Saints. 9 points against NE, and 15 against Buffalo. Having to storm back against the Jets, Bears, Packers, on and on. Remind you of something? The 2021 season. Again, same with 2020. There's nothing to bounce back from. This is a pattern that needs to be broken.

So you're saying you don't think he's a franchise quarterback?

Nothing of the sort. I think he's a good quarterback. Better than most of these quarterbacks in this league. But he's not Burrow, Allen, Mahomes, Rodgers, or even Herbert. He's just not there. What I was trying to say is he's not different than he was in 2019. Same quarterback. Build around him. At this point we have no choice.

No one should complain about the return because they were going to cut him anyway. If you want to complain about the fact that they were going to cut him, have at it.
Hey, when you're ready to sell your current car, sell it to me for $3 bucks. You're going to get rid of it anyway.

Notice he says Jets and Jags were a couple of the few teams involved but again, only the Browns were willing to pay $20M

https://www.nfl.com/videos/rapoport-explains-why-the-cowboys-traded-amari-cooper-to-browns
Browns had to pay as they have the talent now to compete and their OBJ experience bombed and Jarvis Landry is in a downward spiral . They needed an instant proven WR.
The cowboys or other teams don't have this dilemma. The cowboys have Cee Dee and Gallup . No need to pay 2O mil for a lazy WR with an attitude.

I’m a huge Texas Tech fan and saw TJ Vasher play many games when he was at Tech. Honestly, IMO, he’s not an NFL level receiver. He was a good but not great college player, capable of some cool highlight plays but also struggled to make routine catches.

His strengths:
  • Size- he’s very tall and a decent weapon in the red zone.
  • Capable of making an occasional highlight reel catch.
  • He does well going after difficult, contested receptions.
  • Can handle a physical corner because of his size.
His weaknesses:
  • Zero speed. He has long legs but no burst.
  • Drops. Makes spectacular catches. Drops a ton of routine passes.
  • Takes “plays off” when not involved in a play call.
  • Not a good blocker.
  • Often injured. Missed a ton of games in college.
Bottom line: I will be shocked if he makes the 53. He has some raw skill but his weaknesses are many.

Great points, but thats more about the Titans choking that game away. Burrow is special and it must be nice to have a great OC creatively sending in plays. Im jealous....

If Cooper has a 1000 yard season with Baker Mayfield and the Browns end up being better than the Cowboys next season this board will explode!

I wonder what the big picture is?

Would it be big cap, a team that is in good cap position, better draft quality, and a new HC?

This would allow them to reload for a SuperBowl run in 2024 or 2025.

The cap and dead money numbers through the life of the contract are projected to be as follows:
  • 2021 – Cap number: $17.2 million; Dead money: $95.0 million
  • 2022 – Cap number: $34.5 million; Dead money: $77.8 million
  • 2023 – Cap number: $45.5 million; Dead money: $43.4 million
  • 2024 – Cap number: $48.5 million; Dead money: $28.9 million
  • 2025 – (Contract voids) Cap number: $14.5 million
  • Correct #s after this years adjustment:
Year.......Base Salary.......... Prorated Bonus
2022......$1,600,000................$18,130,000
2023......$31,000,000..............$18,130,000
2024......$29,000,000..............$18,130,000
2025........ Void........................$18,130,000
2026........ Void........................ $3,680,000

Like another poster stated, next year is a large # against the cap.........$49,130,000.
Jerry might redo Dak next year (extend his contract) instead of waiting.

Dak's cap charge.......2023....$49,130,000
" " " " cap charge........2024....$47,130,000

No Dak, voided years
..cap charge.........2025,2026...$21,810,000

Thats right, we now have a hit of almost 22 mil for Dak after he leaves.
Depending on what Jerry does next year, this # will get alot larger for life after Dak.

This is not going to end well....
