I agree. I feel Wilson was the only receiver Dak had "chemistry" with. That one will hurt us.
when we effectively demoted him back to wr 3 when Gallup came back, Dak wasn't the same. Hes a solid wr 2 and meshed with Dak well. Why we tinkered with that I'll never understand.

I'd like to see some good draft picks w/ promise, a continuation of letting huge salaries walk next offseason, and only signing cheaper FA's or short term deals.

It's not about this upcoming season, it's about clearing out the chaffe and getting some real players in here.

Some excellent points from those posts.

What these signings that fans are bemoaning are to some extent position fillers if the draft doesnt go the way it's expected.

The disaster of drafting Taco, was brought about as we needed an on the line DE....rather than picking the best available player.

Now LB and DE are covered, but there's room if someone falls.

You're living in the cap past, not the cap future, and unfortunately, so are the Cowboys.
The cap is set to EXPLODE in the coming years.
Some are predicting it could be as high as 248 just next season, and a 300 mil cap is right around the corner.
The cap has been stuck in this "Covid freeze" and it's now going to come out.
20 mil for Coop is never going to be regarded as cheap, but a 20 mil WR on a 300 cap is a lot less % wise than on a 200 cap.
We are already seeing WR salaries increase. Kirk and Williams both signed for close to Coops number, and wait until you see what Adams gets. In the next few years top WR will be getting well over 20. Godwin just got 20.
Coop is costing us 6 mil in cap space this year, and he's playing for the Browns.
You could have easily restructured him and cut his number to close to that this year. (Remember Gallups 5/62.5 deal is costing just 4.5 THIS season).
Yes, the contracts increase in the future, but with an expanding cap it becomes much more managable.
Coop is in his prime, a top 10-12 receiver in the league. He was signed for 3 more years, and we let him go for next to nothing.
That is just not good asset management.
Even if you decide you want to move on in the future from him, you make it work, drive up his value and trade him for a real asset.
My guess is, after seeing Kirks, Williams and Godwins deal, Coops value has increased. He'd likely get 20-22 mil on the market if he were a FA right now, and Adams is about to reset the market.
And now we have a hole at WR, which we will need to fill either with a premium pick or with a FA.
It's like selling your home because you were afraid of the mortgage payment, but now the value has increased, and we need to go rent something and rents have gone way up. We lost the asset.
Poor management.
And you are focusing so much on the cap and the details that you are completely missing the big pic!!!!!!!! And overvaluing Coop. I can see you're a fan of his, and that's fine. However, let go the individual player love and start thinking about what it takes to win a super bowl. Defense. Extremely high paid WR's are not the answer.

Taco was BPA. He was considered a top 15 or so draftee that was falling. We should've examined why he was falling.

Cooper was a 22 million dollar luxury that had to go. Getting Gallup at 12 million was nice. Moving on from the overpaid Collin’s was a must. All good moves. In a year we move on from the overpaid and slow zeke.
Yes, I'm hoping that's what follows next offseason. We should be looking to move on from any big contract that has underperformed or won't be here anyway.

Amazing some here seem to forget the last 26 years. How on earth does anyone think this FO has a clue how to build a championship team is beyond me. Same crap different year
Of course. That's stating the obvious.

Yeah, I get what you're saying and I agree. After the 49ers loss I felt we blew the best team we've had in a long time. I'm not trying to turn this into a Dak thread but before the season I was a Dak homer. During the season I started seeing some things to change my mind. The 49ers game showed me we can't win with Dak in the playoffs. The press conference showed me Dak's not the leader he's made out to be. So I accepted the next 3 years will be mediocre at best, especially if the NFC east shows any improvement. So if we can purge the team of horrible contracts and get the money off the books about the same time we're done with Dak, then we are doing a good job.

I'm happy with sucking for 2-3 and get out of these overpaid underperformaning contracts and start over as opposed to being happy beating the NFC east and getting bounced in round 1 of the playoffs. So yeah I agree, we're setting ourselves up for the future. If anyone thinks we're going to win with this present team is in denial about the character and talent of our roster.
I've become convinced that the only way to win w/ Dak is to build the D. That's what we'll see happening if there is any chance whatsoever that we actually have a plan in place.

I think the Cowboys have a “blind spot” regarding defensive ends and it has existed for over 20 years. They over value the position. They insist on forcing picks at the position. They overpay for the position.

Case in point:

Greg Ellis
Ebeneezer Ekuban
Kavika Pittman
Almost Anthony
Taco
Tank

They were all over drafted (except possibly Ellis—who was only OK)

They seem to think that it matters more where the sacks come from if it is from the DE position. It’s been proven year after year.
Goes purely to poor player evaluation. We don't seem to understand burst and lateral agility and motor.

They won 12 games? Have people lost their collective minds with this CapBoy baloney?
Maybe, but the people who never had the minds to lose to begin w/ are the ones who don't understand the huge role the salary cap plays in personnel.

lol@good moves. There's no need to try to clean up this turdshow. I honestly hope some of our talent asks for trades and don't waste their talent at this dumpster fire. the CLEVELAND BROWNS are making more aggressive moves than us and are actually looking much more fun to watch
LOL even harder at not being able to see how this can benefit us in the future!!!!!!

Kevin, I agree with all the cuts so far too. My problem with this off season is the lack of vision this FO seems to perpetuate. They wait to make bold moves until there’s no choice. They over-value their talent and seem to lack any idea of what kind of indentity they are building for.
That is true. Our only hope rests in Quinn/McM. Are the Tweedles going to let them make more decisions? If you think about it, we'd never have taken a player such as Osa previously. Are things actually changing? Let's see how the draft turns out, and we'll have our answer. If we take another WR in the 1st, all is for nought.

Yeah I’m good letting everyone go that we did, but I would like to see a couple of replacements in FA. Either at ol, wr, de or lb.

Yep, I was a little bummed about Wilson but I truly feel after watching Washington's tape that he can replace him. Now for the draft: Guard/MIKE LB/Safety all needed.

I'm actually OK and/or expected most of the moves that they have done so far, with a few notable exceptions.

Collins. I'm not upset, but this surprised me. I expected him to be the starting LG. I guess that he made too much money for that and, I think that this is bigger than most realize, Jerry promised him that he could be a Tackle.

Armstrong. Nothing against him, but that was too much money for what he does. He isn't a right DE, he's a left DE and we already have Tank. So we paid that kind of contract for Tank's backup? Seems odd to me unless there is a deeper plan here than we know of. Or I am just plain wrong about his ability to play the right side.

Shultz. Seriously, WTAF. I mean, not a bad player, but TAGGED? This is really the only big head-scratcher for me so far this off season.

Losing Gregory was a blessing. Fowler Is good and cheap and losing Gregory gave the Cowboys money to spend.

I think it's easy to under-rate Shultz in this offense.

But his stats were pretty good–78 catches, 808 yards, 8 TD's.

I know PFF isn't everyone's cup of tea, but they rated him the 6th best TE for the 2021 season.

Also keep in mind the Franchise Tag for TE's is about the lowest for any of the positions being about 1/2 of the WR tag... Meaning the cost doesn't seem quite as mind-blowing.

You gotta think that between Lawrence and Parsons, that Fowler ought to put up numbers that are similar to what Gregory did in 12 games last season (6 sacks and 12 pressures).

Just watching some different segments on 105.3 and they all seem emotional about letting players going go like Collins. It just seems like reality is lost.
