I don’t think it’ll change anything.

4 year ago Kirk Cousins received a contract to be the highest paid player in NFL history, and it was fully guaranteed at signing. That didn’t change anything for the other QBs in the league.

Watson is in the same situation. They were both free agents of sorts (not technically in Watson’s sense, but he was able to choose suitors in a similar fashion very unlike a trade scenario), and teams were outbidding each other for their services.

Those two QBs had all the power. That’s not the scenario occurring when Mahomes was extended, when Dak was extended, even when Aaron was extended. Franchise QBs don’t just become a available to the highest bidder like this, so like Kirk, I don’t see it changing much as far as contract demands.

Wilson is a great example of this. He probably could have made demands aligning with the Watson deal, and Denver would have had to pay it. But since he didn’t, 1-2 years from now he’ll sign a new contract that likely isn’t fully guaranteed, isn’t trendsetting, and will fall in line where the market is at that stage for extensions.

I think Wilson's age will be more a mitigating factor against a guarantee contract than his play. Watson is still in his 20s, Russell in his 30s. Russell aint playing as long as Brady. His next contract will likely be his last.

He may be able to do it. He's stocky in the mid and lower parts of his body and seems to know how to avoid hits. But it's hard for me to see a quarterback playing into his mid-40s like Brady. But what do I know?

You're correct, and let's not forget the attention to detail in Bradys regiment. For example his nutritionist has him avoid tomatoes because they are in the "night shade" family and have inflammatory properties. There are few guys willing to take such painstaking care of themselves. I remember Emmitt would sleep in the cryogenic chamber(not sure what exactly it was, maybe hyperbaric?). It's become more common place to practice yoga and do extra to preserve the body. I'm just not certain how many commit to it. Of course luck and genetics are a factor as well.

Spotrac is reporting Stafford's differently. I guess I'll wait to see the final numbers. Either way, 3 years or 4 years, Stafford's extension doesn't start until 2023.

I am 37 and had backpain for the first time in my life this year. It was to a point anytime I stood up, i had extreme pain, and it took awhile to stand up straight. I read something, that is was actually not in my lower back, but in the muscles in my hips.

Went and signed up at the ymca, 4 yoga classes a week for a month and a half stretching out the hips and hamstrings + the rest of the body, and it is completely gone. Not to mention I have changed my movements all together and focused everything on my core.

I don't like the new age aspect of it and I don't participate in that, but I dont see how nfl teams are not making every player take yoga every day. I would think they could eliminate a bunch of soft tissue and muscle injuries doing this.

I can understand taking care of yourself, but that's bordering on superstition. He doesn't eat potatoes either?

I've done yoga, but more so I'm adamant about stretching thoroughly a few times a week. It's too the point if I don't I begin to feel my body tightening. Meditation is great, but I have a difficult time holding still too long. As we get older we can work to preserve our bodies or let them diminish. It's definitely worth the effort.

Maybe, but who am I to criticize what is working? More so it shows how far he will go to perform. It's as much about commitment.

Pretty sure we are adding Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson real soon.......but one GM tweeted Watson's new deal could change the landscape entirely, whatever that means. Qbs start demanding fully guaranteed contracts?

Matthew Stafford signs new contract with Rams
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 19, 2022, 4:22 PM EDT

ok, I have a question here...last year we kept hearing from everyone he is second highest paid player, so he needs to play like it. so now he is 5th highest, does it mean he needs to play like 5th best and if in two years he is 12th best, does it mean then he needs to be 12th best...just wondering.

I am sure somebody will say, if he played like a top 15 player we would be happy....but that's missing the point on the question

its been a game of leap frog for a long time, which is why all the people on this board going on about Dak should not be the highest paid was a bit comical ta the time. That distinction is so fleeting. He'll be 10th most highest paid before you know it

The actual number of what they're being paid really doesn't matter. What ultimately matters is what percentage of the cap they are taking up. If they're around 10% of the cap, it really doesn't matter how much they're being paid.

When my dog barks at someone walking down the street, he's going to do it again the next time someone walks down the street because he thinks barking works. But I understand your point.
