I’m not anti Dak. I’ve actually been more supportive of him than many. So let’s get that out there first.

I’m not a Jameis Winston fan, but I see that he just signed for two years $28m. ($14 per year)

We are paying Dak roughly three times what Winston makes. If both were equally paid, I would choose Dak over Winston; however, it would not be surprised at all if Winston outperforms Dak over the next two years at about 1/3 of the cost.

You can’t win in this league without a franchise QB, and you would think that there are not many acceptable substitutes for Dak. But Matt Ryan was traded for a third round pick. Wentz is probably also in the “Dak ballpark”

Dak
Wentz
Ryan
Winston

All are “retreads” other than Dak. Would anyone be surprised if any of all of these guys outperformed Dak next year.

This is just food for thought on a rainy day in Oklahoma.

Dak vs Winston is anti Dak. Jameis Winston has been a turnover machine. His career QB record is 11 games below 500. The Bucs missed the playoffs with him in 2019 and won the Super Bowl the following year with a 43 year old Tom Brady.

Winston is average at best. he was also 1st over all pick who as a QB was an embarassment to his team. also Winston was a turnover machine, which hurt his team more than his TDs thrown. that's why his old team let him go. his results weren't that good in Tampa despite everything. his last year he went 7-9. basically the same team that won the superbowl.

he amounted to nothing in NO and got an average contract as a result.

Dak got a contract that was too much, but he had better results on the field. perhaps he was a better game manager than Winston that may have fooled people. he was less mistake prone.

Wentz is very up and down. often injured. he makes some plays that are so dumb it makes you scratch your head....then he makes a good play. that's why he is on his third team and it won't be his last.

Ryan is good enough to win. needs a strong supporting cast, but can get the job done. I think he is a good match for the colts, with that running game, improved defense. except that he is now in AFC and AFC is stacked with KC, Bills, Chargers, NE, Denver, Ravens, Cinci and perhaps improving cleveland, NE and Raiders.....that conference is pretty scary. its a tough gauntlet to get out of once you can even make it to the playoffs.

Dak has not got it done for us but I'll take him over any of those retreads you threw out, Matt Ryan is ready for the rocking chair, Winston shredded his knee and his best days are long gone, Wentz, well he has proved their is a big difference between the NFL and ND State Football.

I could see Wentz, Ryan, and Winston all having better seasons next year than Dak.

Dak looked horrible after the Broncos showed that if you don't blitz, disguise the defense a little, stop the run, and force Dak to beat you then you have a really good shot at beating us and making him look horrible. He never recovered from that and the teams that could took advantage of that blue print. The decline of Zeke and the O-Line makes it easier. This isn't 2016 anymore where Dak can just hand it to Zeke and ride his coattails to success.

Also, we have done nothing to improve the offense, but done plenty to make it worse. The loss of Cooper especially is also going to hurt more than some here want to believe.

With you on all points except the last one. That Bucs team that won the Superbowl featured more upgrades than just TB12.

That said, Dak vs Winston shouldn't be a thing. Dak may not be elite but he is a few tiers above Winston.

I know there was some talk about Winstons eye sight and last year it was fixed.

He did look better at times with the Saints but hard to say if the "ugly" Winston would of arrived had he played the full season.
Like @Jake posted, the talent is there but I'm not sure it'll ever be fully used to full potential.

Agree.

Cooper just being out (open) yet not receiving the ball helped Prescott no end.

sorry no comp at all hes turnover prone i mean daks had less INT in a two season span then one of Winston maybe go back 3..whiole JW is viable starter daks top 10 and moneys not the concern of fans especially after the inks dry..show me a full 16-17 game season by JW thats close to 37 tds 10 int a solid qbr 12-5 record 6-0 in the division and playoff appearance..

let me know when you dig it up. thats just one season go check the careers, its not close, JW a tier 3 guy at this point unless he improves. Heck id take wentz over him..

this has to stop Dak under contract its over and this is nonsense. we are tm lookig for any starter but top 10 guy and Winston isnt if. Theres a reason top 1-0-12 guys are overpaid they are clearly better then the alternative, its why wentz did t stay with colts even though hes serviceable. Just saying
