Williams was getting pushed back which lead to him holding, 6'5" 315, Smith is 6'06" 332 and should not be getting pushed into the back field.

Right, he has good size, should be and improvement right away.

He should not be getting pushed back into the back field for sure. He is nothing like Conner Williams, he is a much bigger and stronger than Williams.

He even holds in his highlights. This guy makes CW look disciplined.

I appreciate his nastiness, love that in an OL, but he won't be a contributor for a year or two.

My issue with Smith isn't what's below the neck, it's what's between the ears.

Three penalties per game.

Sending a guy that's penalty prone to Dallas is like sending a recovering alcoholic to the Jack Daniels distillery.

This coaching staff has to prove to me they can fix a players tendencies to draw flags before I get super excited about this one.

Refs are going to start out watching him.

So, potential? Yep. But do the Cowboys coaches have what it takes to help him reach his potential, or will he be a head case that spirals out due to the pressure of the NFL?

The issue isn’t as much Smith the player. It’s Smith at 24. If he was their guy they could have traded down and grabbed him in the second round. Probably 15 picks later. They could have picked up another top 100 pick with that trade. Time and again these idiots fumble the value of players.
I don’t know if a trade down was possible or if he would have been there
I didn’t like the pick because there was a higher rated edge rusher on the board
But he does have the physical traits that if he is developed he could be a monster in the run game
It’s risky picking a guy at 24 that shows a real need to develop and didn’t play a college snap at the position you will be using him. To me this is a risky pick that could be a home run or a single
He’s has some amazing physical tools but we need him to start day one and I just don’t know if he can be ready day one

If the Cowboys are to be believed the Titans were trying to trade up with the Cowboys to draft him. So it sounds like other teams valued him as well.

After watching that film breakdown, Smith's biggest issue his his hand placement. He almost ALWAYS goes outside the shoulders when he blocks which is why he has so many holding calls. If he can learn to get his hands inside, it will cut down on this penalties.

I was okay with Fred pick up at 31st. Fred was also a more polish player. But to pick up such a raw talent at 24 is what got me thinking whats going on here? I want legit starters in the first round.

People seem to compare Fred with Smith....there is no comparison. Fred played against better talent and better teams. Smith against lesser talent and not great teams. Big difference. Larry Allen also came from a small school, but he overpowered everyone and thus was very successful in the NFL. Smith had 16 penalties last season against lesser talent, imagine going against NFL talent. Wowzaa........needs a lot of work.

Furthermore in what world would they know who teams trading up would want to draft?

Are y’all even following the draft? He mentioned it in the post game presser. I also post an article from March from saying the Titans (and Dolphins) had heavy interest in him.

That doesn’t somehow mean Smith is a star but only substantiates the fact he was going to be taken later in the 1st round. He can still be a bust, but he was also going to be drafted by the Titans.
