Is it just me or do all three of these picks scream “we picked solely based on need”?

Honestly, I think most, if not all teams drafted for need. Notice the number of trade and deep runs on WRs. It seems this was not a draft to be worried about BPA. Hell, one team's BPA might have been another team's 3rd or 4th rounder........it's that kind of draft IMO.

Truthfully everyone of these players were rumored to Dallas. That's not good because teams will swipe players mentioned to us. The internet buzzed especially Sam Williams name that Dan Quinn loved this guy. We lucky to have them, but need to have a better poker face on who Cowboys are interested in.

A lot of people had us taking him in the 3rd round.

Tolbet must have been pretty close to BPA and we’ve heard that Tyler Smith was 16th on their board so I’m not sure we reached.
Right, Dallas had him ranked 16th… Prisco had him 26th. Williams was a 1st round talent. Kiper said the WR was the 88th ranked player on his board for whatever that’s worth. But hey, Philly got a two down player who’s gassed in the 3rd quarter in a rotation. A WR who misses at least 3 or 4 games a season and an undersized LB who doesn’t like to keep up with his conditioning!

May not be flashy, but I would say - Solid.
Filled 3 glaring needs.
Just feels like a weird draft all around, and probably tomorrow as well.
But I'm not upset about it.

I thought the first pick may be a slight reach. But looking at the tape and scouting reports - as said elsewhere on the boards.
Flozell Adams.
The second and third were solid.
Both need some work but solid players.

Yup. Tolbert was a fantastic value pick but outside of that we went straight need on the 1st 2 rounds.

Consensus boards had Smith and Williams about 10/15+ spots lower than where we drafted them.

I think the cowboys have specific traits they require players to have and that skews their board in favor of certain players compared to consensus boards.

People can say Tyler Smith and Sam Williams were reaches, but the fact of the matter is they possess rare attributes that drive those players up on the Cowboys draft board. And it’s hard to argue with results.

I can't wait to see these youngins in action. Tyler needs to do more interviews. He's intelligent, well spoken and funny. Make em laugh and then maul em.

First off i think people have become obsessive over BPA vs. need.
I think teams evaluate the skill set of players that closely correspond to the needs of the team. So there’s that. Then they have players in clusters near their picks and they chose from there.
So far, IMO their doing OK

I think the Cowboys have aced the draft so far.

Tolbert is the only WR taken that was a value pick. all the rest of them were par or reaches. Couldn't believe he lasted to 88. He one of the ones that comes up big in big games and grades out a little higher than Gallup did when he was drafted.

Williams was great value also and the way edge rushers get pushed up I thought he would be gone too. Edge rushers w/o production are nothing and he was outstanding with 12/5 sacks and 15 TFL last season.

I'm very excited about Smith, @xwalker was all over this but he will change the attitude of the offensive line. I think he will make Biadasz better.

Clearly it wasn’t BPA. These picks aren’t bad and have potential but there were better players available at other thin positions.
Going to find out all about a new need if the DE they passed on for Smith shows up for NYJ.

No, the Cowboys had Tyler Smith ranked #16 overall.

With Sam Williams, Edge rusher is going to get priority over other positions that are ranked on the same tier.

They considered Jalen Tolbert at their 2nd round pick because he was near the top of their draft board at that point.
