Cut him after this year and move on to younger. No position ages quicker than RB, by age 27 they are starting to decline. Draft one next year in rounds 2 to 4.

IMO - it's up to OC Moore to maximize Elliott's remaining skills PLUS unleashing Pollard’s underutilized abilities to elevate the Cowboys running game.
For starters - deploy a two halfback set - create running and passing plays to confuse defenses.
How about just giving him the ability to bench zeke.

...I bet he does. He just doesn't fit the type to leave and start elsewhere. Zeek luves it in Dallas.

I dont see him ever getting back to prime form, though clipping the 1k mark every year is doable.

Fans held on to #82 for like 6-8
washed up years too long also. Lol.

That's what separates winning from mediocracy. Ya gotta do whatever it takes to improve enough to win.

Not remain the same. We gotta keep churning out hungrier players.

Good fo's woulda cut or traded Zeke 2 years ago.

Some players you can hold on too. Just not skilled players

Yeah, unless we're talking hall of fame talent, I'm not big on giving players 3rd contracts. They're usually around 30 at that point. Think of Gregory. Would you rather pay him at 30 going forward, or give this young guy a shot? I'd rather let Gregory go. He can take up cap space on some other team while he declines. It's a risk, yes, but how many years does Gregory have left, really? And who knows what Sam Williams ceiling is? And like you said, none more important than the skilled players.

It's was too late by then. Do you realize what the cap hit would've been if he was released 2 years ago?

You will absolutely win an argument as to why we shouldn't have re-signed him, but not one for cutting him earlier and escalating the remaining guaranteed money.

The damage was done, all they can do is minimize it now. He can block and run hard. You use that one more year, WITHOUT limiting Pollard and then move on. That's the play.

agreed. But is the money gonna make him any more potent this year???

The money is guaranteed whether he produces or not. The only thing that’s going to make him more potent this year is his health and the OL. I think his numbers will be right around where they were the past two seasons if not lower.

There was plenty of draft capital to draft a good Rb, #2 starting Te, and top wr.

There is still cap space to bring in a cheap RB and Veteran TE for depth

We picked up a 3rd round wr to replace a 1st Round wr.

A Te who is doubtful to be a day 1 starter

And no RB.

All three facets of our offensive skilled positions needed upgrades. It's just a stretch to even think we broke even imo

Hopeful but doubtful

Let's rewind the tape. Zeke came into the league with already a lot of wear and tear from Ohio State, ran in that smash mouth Earl Campbell style for the first 2-3 years in the league and THEN Jerry pays him the most ridiculous contract ever for an RB.

Wow...only a Canadian would come up with the bright idea of extending his contract. SMH

so Zeke is gone after this year and pollard needs to get paid now or be the next overpaid RB lol.

And we still need an improvement at our RB core this year not to mention depth.

But waiting until the last minute is the best option ???

No, please dont take a pay cut. We need him outta here ASAP if there is any hope of revamped run game in Dallas. We must move on from the overpaid, over the hill, slow and plodding, doesnt like to share, wont come out when injured Zeke Elliott.
