Kelvin Joseph Having 'Productive Offseason,' Reveals Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy

kelvin-j.webp

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy initially insisted that he had nothing new to offer to the public in regard to the beleaguered Kelvin Joseph.

But then, in his Friday meeting with the media here inside The Star, he did indeed provide two glimpses into what is going on with the second-year cornerback, who is still with the despite his connection to a drive-by murder in Dallas last month.

McCarthy's first revelation was about something bigger than football.

"I understand the concern, and I just want you to know that when the situation occurred, we had a lot of internal conversation that was really in-depth,'' he said. "Based off the information we've been given, we felt it was important to support him.''

This is a subtly significant position. It essentially suggests that the Cowboys are comfortable with what they've learned about the tragic incident, and that they are comfortable with what Joseph has told them about it.

The second issue is football-related. Said the coach: He's been here every day and he's having a very productive offseason so far."

If Joseph was a 6th round pick last year rather than a 2nd…he’d already be gone.
No he wouldn’t. The Joneses would only get rid of Joseph if he could not play football. Let’s just say this if Joseph was shot in the back and could not play football. The Cowboys would release him. The Joneses are not getting rid a talent.

Kelvin Joseph should have productively reached out and helped the victim's family by now. Is he even going to try...or does he not care? How about the Cowboys? You are supporting a costly drafted player WHO WAS a part of the killing group. What are Jerry and the Cowboys going to do to help that poor family?

I have bad vibes from this guy. Bad egg!
I don't agree.

Jerry always seems to have one of these guys around, hoping one day it'll pay off big.

He thinks a collection of great talent will allow him to win with a puppet HC.
Really don't think that's Jerry's way of thinking. Jerry likes to give these youngsters chances.
Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished. Randy Gregory ring a bell?!

You're not wrong, but do we know that he hasn't? I'd love if this was something that was happening but kept private. Not really the Cowboys style as it would be a fantastic PR move, but to see Joseph or the Cowboys doing the right thing strictly for the right reasons would be a pleasant surprise.

Could be part of the reason the Cowboys continue to back Joseph? I'm not optimistic that's the case, but i'd love to find out it's true.

Joseph is one of those kids who could be a good player who makes lots of money in the NFL IF he survives life. Some kids take longer to grow up than others. Some need the threat of losing the opportunity they have to wise up. Some never learn. Maybe Joseph is one of those kids who will be shocked into maturity by this incident. Obviously I do not know Joseph personally so I cannot judge what kind of person he is.

This situation reminds be of the Josh Brent situation. I always thought Brent had some talent. But he was young and raw. He was stout inside against the run even if he did not make many plays. There was potential there, but he never gave himself a chance to reach it. It's a shame when any of these kids throws it all away over something stupid and it is always tragic.

There are probably legal reasons not to reach out to the family. Hopefully, once everything has settled, then he'll reach out.

Nah man we need him lol, if Dallas PD didn’t charge him with accessory to murder then who is this board to accuse him?
