Sports athletes and teams attract fans. What motivates each fan to develop a bond with certain players and franchises may not be due to a common rationale but individual reasons. Hopefully, some young fans will post their reasons but there should not be an expectation that most or all their answers are because of reasoning others believe in. The reasons can be as varied as there are sports teams and players in the world.

My dad and I became a big Bob Lilly fan

I am old enough to remember the Super Bowl win against the Broncos, but I mostly came of age in the Danny White years. Those years were tough too. We were still really good, but not good enough to win another championship for Landry. 3 straight NFC title losses was tough to swallow. Something people who say they would be satisfied with an NFC title appearance for the current group should think about.

Jerry’s a very good salesman. I would estimate you were still living off the glory of those SB teams until about 2007 when another NFCE team won it all via beating you in the playoffs, with the best season youve had since 95.

Even when it was 5-11 year after year after year, Jerry convinced everyone you were just a WR or a star RB away from flipping the script and returning to how it was

My dad started following the team in 1963. I used to see him watching games every Sunday but never took an interest until the Cowboys played in Super Bow Vl. My dad was so excited about the Cowboys getting back to the Super Bowl after losing the previous year that it got me interested in watching the game. It was Captain Comeback and their success they got me interested in the team.
Wonder how many fans are Cowboy fans because of Roger?
He was an outstanding role model and player.
My childhood hero.

A lot of kids and even adults became fans of the Cowboys because of Roger. The Cowboys were known as bridesmaids and next years champions until he came along. He turned the Cowboys into America’s Team.

Kind have wondered the same thing?
I mean I saw the glory years of the 70s and 90s
and feel loyal because of Landry and Roger.
What do the modern fans have besides this circus?

The modern fans have Dak and all his regular season stats to pound their chests about.

A lot of kids and even adults became fans of the Cowboys because of Roger. The Cowboys were known as bridesmaids and next years champions until he came along. He turned the Cowboys into America’s Team.

Then Dak came along and turned the Cowboys into the same thing they had been the previous 20 years before him.

The Jones did not create Cowboys mania and popularity, .. the Cowboys were already deemed " America's Team " before the Jones bought out the sales bill and
entered the scene. Cowboys were already quite popular, even worldwide

The early success of the 90's Cowboys era, where the Jones/Jimmie were responsible for three winning Super Bowls, just amplified and added to the Cowboys dynasty
and popularity.
Cowboys mania- sensation was already quite well known and popular before a great many of us were even born.

I'm sure the question comes off as an insult to some, but I still think it's a fair question. I'm being honest if I say that I couldn't imagine being a Cowboys fan without the 70s or early 90s.

And early 80s. For me as a kid, the Cowboys were always on TV and won most of the time. That's all it takes to latch on to a team especially at a young age. Same with the Raiders. I was a fan of both as a kid.

True, but what's in it for the modern fan who does not remember that heritage?
The team is poorly run and has devolved into a circus.
