How did you get roped into becoming a Cowboys fan?

Most become a fan of a team from being born into a family that follows a particular team or growing up in an area where a team is shown on TV throughout the season.
That was me. Living in Northern NJ, Giants and Jets fans annoyed me. Beyond that, I was conceived at Ft Hood TX. That makes me as a Texan in my mind. Lol. Being on TV nearly every week also helped.

Dallas lost to "Old D.C." twice in conference championship games
1972___ 3 - 26; 1982___ 17 - 31...both at RFK Stadium. Cowboys played poorly. Both times Washington went on to win the Super Bowl.
I know. I know. :(
But they didn't win the first Super Bowl. Miami beat them 14-7 to complete the perfect season.
That is, actually, the first football game I can remember viewing. I was downstairs in our den watching Super Bowl 7 as I climbed over and under some chairs.

So is @ESisback !
Me Phillies. If only the entire team played like Harper.

Clemente, Stargell, Mazeroski, Oliver, Hebner, Sanguillen, Blass, Ellis, Bonds, Parker, Van Slyke, Kison, Kiner, Face, Drabek, etc.—so many great players. Kids have no idea! Pittsburgh is one of THE great franchises, RUINED by bad ownership. The Nuttings are a cancer.

Oh yeah - my error. Washington offense was inept all game long. Miami PK Garo Yepremian should have just fell on the blocked FG...Dolphins D would have preserved the shutout.

Let's say you are a young enough Cowboys fan to where you weren't even old enough to remember the last Cowboys Super Bowl championship back in January 1996.

How in the hell did you get roped into becoming a Cowboys fan? Was it the Joneses and their wit and savvy?

Just curious.
I’m 32 and it was my Dad, he’s a diehard and it was passed down to me. And living in the DFW area helped as well I guess

Washington didn’t go on to win the Super Bowl in 1972. They lost to the undefeated Miami Dolphins.

I think a better question for about 30% of the fans would be…….

Why do you even bother being a fan anymore?

I know it's not going to compute, that you can't imagine anyone with a different mindset than you and the front runners, but some people root for reasons other than Super Bowl Victories.

Their called FANS. The reason why no one gives a fleas coitus what front runners think is because you are not worth it. You contribute nothing to the game, to the organization in short , you're useless to

everyone but your selves. I remember before we won our first of five we were dubbed "Next years Champs" That's what makes it so satisfying when the team does win. Knowing that you aren't some front running POS that roots for the team

because they are the hot thing . But then turns and runs when you have down years.

Half of the fanbase are just bandwagon fans. No offence it just is what it is

Emmitt Smith, living in Texas when I got into football with no Houston team at the time, and the only teams that I knew of at the time were the Cowboys, Eagles (my dad's and most of my family's team), Giants, and Jets. Obviously, the Cowboys were the best choice of those. Funny enough, I was once on the same plane in Hawaii as John Elway. I was new/not really into football yet at the time. Had I known about football more and known who that was, I could very easily have been a Broncos fan (and I do like Denver, and I do cheer them on when they don't play the Cowboys). Ironically, the only team I've never seen us beat is the Broncos. However, I'm still a big Cowboys fan. If the Cowboys were to ever vanish, the Broncos would probably be my landing spot. However, I have no interest in leaving the Cowboys yet.
I do not like that last word.
:muttley:everything you said was Ok until that last word.

My dad hooked me on them in the 70s when they were known as the classiest team in the NFL.

If I was under the age of 35, there's no way I'd root for this garbage organization.

I did not pass my fandon to my kids, who just follow college football through the schools they attend(ed).
So you killed the family tradition?

I grew up playing baseball, I was the catcher. In my Senior year we played for the state Championship, we were the Highland Hornets, this was in Albuquerque. Went to work washing dishes later that evening and they had the Dallas Cowboys on in a small TV in the back where I worked.

I should have never went to work as a dish washer...
I am now cursed from the good times back then in Texas Stayjum. The oil man walked in.

You know it’s been a tough offseason when you see a thread like this. You won’t be finding a topic like this on a Rams forum. Before long we’ll be seeing another topic titled “How many hate yourselves for loving the Cowboys?”

Never got “roped in”. The uniform, the players, the tradition. So strong it’s kept me here through 26 years of drought.

Screw what haters and fake fans think/say!
