Dominant?
Dominant is a bit subjective.

But with this defencive unit, old fellow, we can go far. They are young and hungry. They are growing and learning. Parsons is the leader of the pack. A fine if talkative leader.

But to get to your question, what we need for a "dominant" D? We need a 350-pound run stuffer on the line and a bookend to Parsons on DE.

From tha, we can build, reload and stay dominant.
No need to thank me. Your look of awe is enough for me, govnor.
Looking at your recent activity lately reminds me of a lyric from the song Clint Eastwood by the Gorillaz:
Finally! Someone let me outta my cage!
Now time for me is nothin' 'cos I'm counting no age.

Sorry... but if you cannot stop the run, it makes it easier for teams to eventually mix in the pass and play action .. it makes it asier for them to balance their attack, and
choose which way they can attack you .. you have to make them one dimensional ... you have to worry about the run
That's is football 101, stop the run and force teams to pass. I get that, but saw teams get away from their run games when they were behind the scoreboard. Taking the offense out of the discussion, the front office has drafted several players who excelled at stopping the run on the college level: Osa, Gloston are quality run defenders who need development more as pass rushers. Let's see if 1 of our NT's improve the defense against the run. Also, health is huge for this group as they were a mash unit last season.

What will it take for this Dan Quinn's defense to be Dominant ?

Not downhill, .. not just opportunistic .. but Dominant ?

Its' exciting to have a Parsons, just as it was exciting to have a DWare.
Its exciting to be in the playoffs and run thru the NFC East opposition,.to which it's difficult to repeat per trend history
But come playoff, we're exited out of there ...because of the Defense

- Either its Aaron Rodgers doing a number on us .. or it's teams like the Rams and
Niners " out-physical " us outta the playoffs

- Despite having Parson, DLaw and Gregory.. and a playmaker in secondary in Diggs, we still have been an inconsistent defense that vs the run, does not stop the more competitive teams from running the ball on us.

- When will it come a time when our Cowboys defenses finally change and dictate what
opposing teams cannot do to us ?

What else is needed on this Defense for it to be dominant ?
The only thing keeping them being elite in 2021 was penalties...most in the league on both sides of the ball.

I dunna defend me defending me, ever.
Now, go have a good dinner and don't spend another moment doting on a kerfuffle here.

An Ed Reed at safety

I'm right behind, in line, with some kid named Oliver and he won't stop whining.
C'est la vie.

We need Neville Gallimore, Jabril Cox, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Kelvin Joseph to take it up a few notches, and Malik Hooker needs to return to form AND stay healthy. Throw in a RoY campaign for Sam Williams and the defense will be dominant. The pieces are on the board. Quinn just needs to solve the puzzle. I think he will. Predicting it now that this will be our best defense in 25+ years.

Unless the FO puts some money into a dominant Dline nothing else matters.

So far, they use scrubs and 3rd stringers to fill the void.

I think it's all dependent on how much our 2021 draft guys step up.

I agree with Whiskey Cowboy.

Defense will be the best it's been in 25 years.

They need to continue to realise that 'small quick twitch linemen' is not how you win in the NFL. Big is better, particularly come January.

Wasn't Gregory the biggest culprit in that area? In my opinion, two areas stuck out:

-their inability to stop the run against the better rushing teams.
-gave up too many yards after the catch.

The 2021 Cowboys defensive stats support your point, especially in the running game. Here are some 2021 defensive stats that give us a clearer picture:
  • The Cowboys gave 1,918 yards rushing which was 16th in the league.
  • Cowboys gave up 4.5 yards per rush which was 25th in the league.
  • Cowboys gave up 14 runs of 20 yards or more which was 29th.
  • The Cowboys D was better against the pass, finishing 3rd in completion % allowed at 59.5%.
  • Cowboys led the league in INTs with 26.
  • Micah Parsons had 13 sacks and a whopping 59 pressures in 16 games against the QB which was elite.
The defense is improving. But it’s clear we must be better against the run.

Also, the defense ranked in the top 10 in giving up plays over 20 yards.

Simple. Being able to:
1. Give up 17ppg or LESS
2. Give up 90 yards or LESS in Rush D
3. Have Passer Rating AGAINST of 70 or LESS
4. Be in the Top 5 in TO’s and 3rd Down D

Nothing too difficult :lmao2:
