You're right. The Rams do it much quicker! Just look how long it took Jerry to give Dak the extension, and we're still waiting and hoping for some big FA news before the season.

Yep...........this is the problem with Jerry. He doestn catch on or do things quick enough. And he goes overboard on certain things. i.e. build throught the draft, only use FA for bargains, DT, safety not important positions, ect....ect....

You are looking at it wrong. The Rams are clearly better in three areas: 1) Front office big advantage there. 2) Head coach they have a huge advantage. 3) QB they have a sizable advantage. Forget about comparing rosters, this is where seasons are determined.

  • Matthew Stafford
Only name I needed to see. They don't win the SB with Goff.

Speaking of Goff, What’s also impressive is the talent they shed to get to the top. Just a couple years ago they made the SB with the roster of

Jared Goff
Todd Gurley
Brandin Cooks
Dante Fowler
Roger Saffold
Ndamukong Suh
Marcus Peters
Michael Brockers
Aqib Talib

they dumped all those pro bowlers/all pros in just 3 years and then got better. No one else would have survived a purge like that

No chance. Stafford has the elite skills McVay requires - can make throws Dak cant.
Lol. Sure. That’s why he hadn’t won a playoff game for 12 years. Give Dak McVay. And the best defense in football I guarantee you he wins that game. Either way. Stafford didn’t win that game. Donald did.

This, he broke the NFL record for most 4th quarter TD passes in the regular season and playoffs without a single interception.
He went the entire year and playoffs without a 4th qtr pick

If someone wants to mention Jalen Ramsey then they have to subtract our 2020 and 2021 1st rounders

The trade would be Jalen Ramsey for Micah Parsons and Cee Dee Lamb

Or just trade him for Zeke like we should have done in the first place.

They used FA for a few key acquisitions. Cowboys arent there yet. They also went through a two year type rebuild where they had to get rid of bad contracts like overpaying for Gurley and having to move on from Goff.

The difference is the Rams do it all much quicker because they use trades and FA instead of just the draft.

Cowboys aren't there yet? When will they be? The "core" they drafted is now getting older. So by the time they "are there", you are going to have Martin outside his prime, who knows with Tyron Smith, Lawrence will be older, etc.

That's the problem with this whole avoid FA and just draft............ by the time you think you filled your holes, you don't realize the ones you thought you filled 5-6 years ago are now potentially holes again.

If you are asking me its after this season when you can get Zeke off the books. Now the salary cap is clean of all bad contracts and we have another year to see these rookies and 2nd year guys bloom or not. Thats where the real window starts. As long as some of these young ones continue to pan out.

But you are correct. We are still going to have to replace Smith next year so the Oline rebuild is still in progress.

If 49ers dB holds onto int Rams don't get to superbowl and the reason would've been a Stafford special.

I am trying to figure out your point here. No, no one ever said that Rams built their team through FA. But they made quite a few impact signings/trades that put them over the top. The aren't winning a SB without Stafford, for example.

The real point here is the Rams used FA and trades to put them over the top. Our two dolts think they can just draft their way entirely to a SB and don't need to bother adding any legitimate players in FA.

Very well said..

Fans/media consider the Rams to have won the Super Bowl due to big free agent spending.

In reality, of the full season starters, only 3 were big contract players that were originally with other teams.
  • Players not listed:
    • Rams UDFAs
    • Street Free Agents (i.e. Players that didn't finish a rookie contract with another team).
  • Big Contract Players from other teams
    • Matthew Stafford
    • Leonard Floyd
    • Jalen Ramsey
  • Medium Contract Player
    • A'Shawn Robinson
  • Partial Season Rentals
    • Von Miller
    • Odell Beckham Jr.
    • DeSean Jackson
  • Originally outside free agents, but on 2nd contract with Rams
    • Andrew Whitworth
    • Robert Woods (On IR half the season)
  • Rams Draft Picks
    • Aaron Donald
    • Cooper Kupp
    • Van Jefferson
    • Taylor Rapp
    • David Edwards
    • Jordan Fuller
    • Brian Allen
    • Tyler Higbee
    • Rob Havenstein
    • Greg Gaines
    • Darrell Henderson
    • Ernest Jones
    • Sebastian Joseph-Day
    • Robert Rochell
    • David Long
    • Terrell Lewis
    • Terrell Burgess
    • Joseph Noteboom
    • Travin Howard
    • Ben Skowronek
    • Nick Scott
    • Bobby Evans
    • Tutu Atwell
    • Brycen Hopkins
    • Jacob Harris
    • Jake Funk
    • Cam Akers
    • Chris Garrett
    • Micah Kiser
    • Bobby Brown
    • Justin Lawler
    • Ogbonnia Okoronkwo
Cowboys:
- Only significant investment in an outside players was Cooper & to some extent the punter/kicker.
Good info
Just wish we would use free agency more.

As long as the Cowboys don't employ a fully empowered GM, they'll struggle matching up with elite teams. Getting into the playoffs vs. teams with elite personnel is folly. We routinely have too many holes to be competitive with the best of them.

Of course, our FO has long been in strict denial of that. Empowering Will McClay for total talent acquisition, including vet FAs might be a good 1st step. Eliminating Stephen from contract negotiations should prove especially helpful, as well.

There is nothing Stafford can do that Dak cant. If you understand QB play that is.

There is one small thing Stafford has now done that Dak will never be able to do..........

I will even go a step further - put Dak on that Rams team last season and they don't win the super bowl. They might not even make it to the NFCCG.

Everyone from players, coaches, media, to outside fans knew Stafford was a legit quarterback. Dude was in one of the worst situations one could possibly have.

Only a few Dak homers can't see it. Sad actually

No, thats not the point at all. It has nothing to do with money b/c every NFL team has money they have to spend on players. The point in comparing the Rams and Cowboys is that level of activity in the front office. The Rams are not satisfied with just making the playoffs. They continually go out in free agency and get what they need. You certainly can't argue they built last years super bowl like Dallas by re-signing and drafting. The fact is that they have made some ballsy moves and have been one of the most aggressive front offices in the league wheeling and dealing.

Every team has to use the draft for the bulk of their players because no team can afford free agents at every position. But when a team gets close, the way to get over the hump is free agency - or trades. It only takes a few players to get over the top, if they are truly impact players. The Cowboys of the 1990s got over to the top when they signed acquired Haley and Deion.

2 of those 3 players are huge and the 3rd is pretty good as well. It's not like you can stay under the cap with 10 "big contract" FA signings so I'm confused unless the premise is to show the Rams indeed bought a SB. Also, 2 of those 3 mid year signings were also huge for the post season run.
