Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones placed a big bet on natural gas producer Comstock Resources. And now, his stake is worth more than twice what he paid. His stake, worth about $2.6 billion after investing roughly $1.1 billion. Nice to have that type of money to throw around in investment. But also, a time where energy plays have been getting a ton of eyeballs, a ton of investment, especially for those who are looking at the sector, and have seen it run up over these past several months and year.

- I mean, natural gas is really tricky. It's had a lot of crashes, as well. And a lot of people whose fortunes have been wiped out.

Jones has been luckier, or smarter than most, 'cause this is not the first time he's made this kind of investment, and actually done well with it. So it's interesting that he's now repeating it with Comstock. And I guess he's in good company when it comes to these energy investments right now.

Advancements in fracking back in 2007 made Comstock a hot commodity. Anyone with a half of brain and the money to do so was investing in Comstock. Now let's hope he continues investing in a dominating front four for our defense.

I bought some of that stock back when they bought out a natural gas company based out of Houston. I actually bought and sold several times, made some decent money, but nothing huge.
This last time I was going to buy around $8 when it dipped, but decided to go with something else. Then it went up to $22. Now down to $12.65 as of today.

I did make some money on what I bought instead, but nor as much as if I would have bought this one again.
I may get back in.

Nobody cares about his outside business success. Personally I’d hope that gas line backs up at his Turtle Creek estate. Lol

Jerry did not come from money and took several risk along the way as a wildcatter oil and gas
Thats not necessarily true . His father owned several business including an insurance company which employed Jethro after college. .And it was his father who was in position to help Jethro buy the Chargers for about 5 million but backed out at the last minute.

Did Jethro’s daddys have his kind of wealth he amassed , no. But he had considerable wealth . Especially for that time .

His insurance company Jethro worked at about 1965 was estimated worth over 6 million.

erry Jones has an estimated net worth of $8.4 Billion as of 2020, reported by Forbes. Jerry started his career as a failed business in the late 1960s. Jerry is reported among the top fifty self-made billionaires in the United States. Steven A. Cohen is another self-made Wall Street Billionaire with a net worth of $14 Billion.

His dad owned small business Jerry did not come from great wealth, clearly they were not poor but far from rich.

His father insurance company according to Wikipedia was worth about 6 million in 1965. You wouldn’t consider that money? I’d certainly argue that was rich in the 60’s.

He was in position to help his son buy the Chargers for 5 million but backed out.

“After his graduation, Jones' parents moved to Springfield, Missouri, where Pat was president and chairman of Modern Security Life Insurance Co. The company, which an advertisement billed as a "one in a million" company, saw its assets increase from $440,299.76 in its first statement in 1961 to $6,230,607 in 1965. “

After graduating from the University of Arkansas, Jerral W. Jones was listed as an executive vice president.[4] With the success of the company, the Joneses assembled the 5,500-acre Buena Vista Ranch east of Springfield in Rogersville, Missouri in the Ozark Mountains. In 1971, after selling the insurance company, the couple carved out 400 acres of their ranch to start Buena Vista Animal Paradise, where tourists could visit exotic animals (now Wild Animal Safari in Strafford, Missouri, just south of Interstate 44)”

There stock has been much higher but that’s the NG industry. It’s a roller coaster ride but if you time it right there’s great returns
