Report: NFL seeks indefinite suspension of Deshaun Watson, lasting at least one year
Posted by Mike Florio on June 25, 2022, 6:39 PM EDT

Multiple reports have pegged the commencement of the hearing before Judge Sue L. Robinson for Tuesday, June 28. It’s unclear how long the process will take. An effort by the NFLPA to defend Watson based on the actions, and consequences, of owners like Daniel Snyder, Robert Kraft, and Jerry Jones will necessarily delay the process. Nevertheless, Watson has an absolute right to argue that his punishment should be commensurate with other cases.

What punishment should the owners get? Suspend them a few weeks? They're really not the face of the franchise. They are more known, but I couldn't even tell you who all of the other owners are.

Out of curiosity, what does anyone think would happen if Watson got almost no punishment? Will the NFL collapse? I'll be honest, he's not on the Cowboys so I couldn't care less. I'm not going to stop watching.

In my opinion this is a Cleveland thing. Those fans most likely have already come to their own conclusions and opinions of Watson. The length of the suspension isn't changing anything.

The owners and Watson should get a year suspension. Stephen needs to be included in the suspension with his father. That freaking stuff with the cheerleaders needs to be investigated outside the organization.:omg::laugh::muttley:

1 vs 23 and it wasn't Jerry was his staff correct ,lets keep the facts straight..zeke got 6 for doing nothing and the investigator recommended no suspensions, odd huh? ruined our 2017 season and i believe Zekes got 3 RT right now..3 in row only by the mighty ES Jerry paid 1 mil as well for standing up for Zeke, that's a punishment that doesn't for the crime. ehemmm No crime LOL

to me DW deserves 2 years, however I'm giving him credit for not paying last year as time served regardless if he was paid or not, so 1 full year would be enough from where i sit.

I dont see how Watson did anything wrong to be honest. Trying for a happy ending or trying to have sex with your massage therapist happens. I doubt he forced any of them to do anything.

Do you think owners should be held to a higher standard?

It's not about standards. It's strictly about what keeps the revenue flowing. Animal actions from players can hurt revenue badly, that's all this is about. Owners generally don't get punished for actions because their actions don't have a ton to do w/ public perception. Yes, Jerry is an exception to that rule.

Honestly Roy, this is pretty much my take.......unless/until he's criminally prosecuted I don't see it. In other words, if he was an average Joe with no money, I'm not sure we would even be talking about this.

Player's Union would never allow more than a year.

And why would the owners want to see themselves punished?

I agree. And the guy already had his life screwed up and he missed a year of his career with no pay. If I am the League I give him a "time served" type punishment and be done with it.

If the claims are to be true (settling doesn't necessarily mean it is but the timing right before discovery is a little telling), grabbing a woman's ******, pressuring someone to perform oral sex, or whipping it out and trying to coerce them to touch him is a little beyond "trying for a happy ending". This goes way farther than simply asking. If someone did this to my wife or daughter there sure as anything would be a coming to Jesus moment (no neither are massage therapists). But hey if you think this is okay behavior, you do you.

https://www.nytimes.com/article/deshaun-watson-sexual-assault-lawsuit.html

"Watson was said in both cases to have pressured women to perform oral sex during massages and was accused in one of also having grabbed a woman’s buttocks and ******. The civil suits alleged that Watson engaged in a pattern of lewd behavior with women hired to provide personal services, coercing them to touch him in a sexual manner, exposing himself to women he had hired for massages, or moving his body in ways that forced them to touch his *****. The incidents cited in the suits were said to have occurred from March 2020 to March 2021."

Criminal prosecutions have nothing to do w/ suspensions over the image this employer is trying to keep from getting too dirty. Think about it, Hawks, you do not have to break the law to get fired from your job. The criminality of the act is irrelevant as far as his punishment by the NFL.

While true but not coz the actions are any less evil but camouflaged by layers of subordinate employees and lawyers
