Strahan calls Erik Williams the meanest player

This is period after Erik was but a shadow of his former self but he still made life a living hell for any defender going up against him.

Strahan in his PRIME was still getting his butt whupped by a disabled Erik Williams.

But it is so painful watching the interior OL of this era what was just a few seasons prior once known as the Great Wall. LG-C-RG were soft as wet tissue paper. And with Redrock at FB instead of Moose.

He didn't line up against Bruce Smith - Smith was a RDE in the Bills' 3-4 defense.

Erik Williams should probably still be in the PFHOF even with the injury. Another factor in his later career is that they basically made a rule(hands to the face) against his blocking because it was so damned effective.

I loved Big E’s nasty style of play. However, in addition to the accident, he lost a little something when the NFL put an emphasis on his head slap as a penalty. As OTs go, I don’t think he was ever in Larry Allen’s class.

From 1992-1994 Erik Williams was the best OT in the NFL. Then he had a horrific car accident that cost us another super bowl and his HOF talent. He was still good but never to the level he was ......... its like he went from all-pro level to pro bowl alternate level.

Newton is right. You have to remove an entire section of an offensive playbook if you want to remove the cutoff block. It’s part of the game on the backside of an OL. As for hands to the face, I remember BigE being the poster child for why the rule was applied. The violent headbutt with the head slap was his staple at the point of attack.

Erik Williams was by far the "baddest cat" and most intimidating OT to ever play in this league.His athletic ability and approach set the identity for that Great Offensive Line.He idolized Reggie White and decided the best course of action was to make every time they played a knock down drag 'em out street fight which he won nearly every single time and actually won the player of the week for shutting Reggie down in the 1992 Home game vs Philly.He set the tone for that 1995 Playoff Run and took his game to another level with his sheer intensity against Philly,Green Bay and Piittsburgh.A couple of memorable quotes during that run:

on William Fuller-"he couldn't handle what I was giving him from whistle to whistle and made the mistake of trying to fight me when it was done"

on the John Jurkovic Injury-"he took a rest play and paid for it"

on Gregg Lloyd and Kevin Greene talking trash about him before SB 30-"the reason they are talking is because aren't going to be lining up against me"

Nate Newton use to say that Defensive Players would be all jacked up early in games and talk a lot to big E but by the 4th Quarter while he would be still beating on them he would say "are you still a tough guy and gonna get me and take me out?"
